KR> RE: Wood Prop Question

2008-10-12 Thread Pete Diffey
Hi,

Isn't this list great.

As I mentioned a couple of days ago, I thought the main concern with
rain was the chance of it turning into hail.

I had no idea the wet form could be quite so dangerous.

Thanks for the enlightenment.

Pete

A good friend of mine had a wood prop on his Spezio and flew through a shower
with it without any leading edge protection. He probably only had 80% of his
prop left. He switched to a metal prop and the wood prop made a nice wall
hanging after he decoratively refinished it

Mark,
Think of it as if you're driving in rain. you have to slow down. do not fly
with a prop that does not have a L.E protection and always slow down (prop RPM)
by a good 15% from normal cruise.

KR> RE: Wood Prop Question

2008-10-12 Thread Myron (Dan) Freeman
Have you ever seen or can you imagine a wood deck on your patio that has
been harshly pressure washed by someone who doesn't know what there doing or
how to do it? That's what happens to the unprotected prop. The rain starts
to tear away the little fibres on the leading edge and that degrades the
prop airflow as it wears away.

Thanks. I get that part. But I have heard it presented as "bullets traveling
