I have not used Proseal on glass or Rotomolded plastics. But the description
of the application sounds like he's trying to seal under a washer of some sort
on a tank fitting. Proseal should work well for that. Proseal stays flexible,
which you need for a plastic tank. If you had a weepy glass tank, my
recommendation would be different. I have one of those I'll be repairing on
the Cub this spring.

By the description, this sounds like a rotomolded Polyethylene tank. I would
not attempt to use a glass resin, including vinylester, to seal polyethylene.

No Dan they are not fiberglass, some kind of poly that has been roto molded I
think? most like other ultralight tanks? I will investigate the Pro-seal to
see the specs?. as you guys have used it successfully I have no doubts?. I
will attempt to obtain the specs on the tanks and then return? Thanks of the
response all of you? jw

Jeff,

Have you used Proseal on fiberglass tanks? I was going to suggest that, but
did not know how well it worked with Plastic or fiberglass.

Joe,

By plastic, do you mean fiberglass? The fittings in the fiberglass tank in the
KR are secured in place with a flox resin mixture. Use Vinyl Ester resin and
you should never have a problem with it.

I have a need to find a suitable sealant to put around the fittings that are
installed in plastic ?? fuel tanks. there is a aluminum fitting that is held
in the tank wall or base with a large washer and nut

KR Group, First of all Happy New Year to all.

I?m in the process of building a different airplane, but have followed this
site for a long time. Way too much good info to stay away. I have a need to
find a suitable sealant to put around the fittings that are installed in
plastic ?? fuel tanks. there is a aluminum fitting that is held in the tank
wall or base with a large washer and nut, also a small rubber o-ring that is
squeezed between the washer and the tank . Seems a bit fragile to me and
wondering if I can?t strenthen the seal with a semi-liquid sealant that would
stand up to the fuel? I can?t find a caulking or sealant that is resistant to
fuel? any ideas? tnx jw

"Gorilla snot" is what we called 3M weather-strip adhesive and no it is no good
for sealing anything with heat applied. It is good for holding gaskets in
place until assembled. The best stuff for making liquid gaskets is GM black
RTV that is O2 sensor safe gasket adhesive and maker. This one works stand
alone is designed for all automotive applications, and is gas and oil
resistant. The 3M will eventually get hard crack and leak. The Permatex will
not. 15 years of auto repairs proved that one for me working in the
profession. It has also become the standard from the assembly line on
virtually all rear wheel drive axle cases, valve covers not using rubber
gaskets, the ends of the intake gaskets on V6 & V8 engines, and much more.
Good building
