KR> The KR2 or Sonerai 2 is a funeral waiting to happen

2014-02-13 Thread Jeff Lange
I am certainly not loosing any sleep over it. Gotta love self proclaiming
internet experts!

I just wanted to make sure someone made a post that called him out on his
comments so that others will take them with a grain of salt.

Go to the site: (copy and paste) or Google 'Sea Era airplane'
http://www.homebuiltairplanes.com/forums/bush-float-flying/11534-paul-weston-sea-era.html

and you will see that the stall crash of the Sea Era and the reasons why
(right wing drop on stall, low time pilot etc ) follow the input at the
bottom and it makes an interesting read - especially by the engineer who
helped on this aircraft. Which however, is not available to buy/build/
Otherwise a dead duck! (living close to Lake Erie it sparks my marine
surveyor's eye as a Sea Doo with a wing!)
No comparison to a KR, and yes Dan, an ignorant/stupid statement!

Ignorant comment. I think most who have ever flown either will agree.
Really stupid.

I would not lose one second of sleep, or give this guy one moments thought.
The internet is full of uneducated idiots who will spout off senseless
verbiage. It is very clear that this individual knows very little about
flying. I have been flying for over 32 years with mostly tail wheel time,
his comments about nose wheels is ludicrous. I used to own a 701, and the
nose wheel is a hindrance. I will never own another Zenair . KRs and
Sonnerais are GREAT little airplanes and a lot of bang for the buck.

Guys,

I am not one to pick a fight on the internet, but we had a guy join
sonerai.net that was apprehensive about the design based on this comment:
"The KR2 or Sonerai 2 is a funeral waiting to happen"

This comment comes from the co-designer of the Sea-Era airplane (a very cool
little bird btw) and was posted on the HBA forum:

and would like to defend our little airplanes?

KR> The KR2 or Sonerai 2 is a funeral waiting to happen

2014-02-13 Thread Jeff Scott
Looks to me like he's trying to generate interest in his plane by bashing
others. ?Not a particularly good sales technique. ?Most Amateur built aircraft
designs have similar stability issues that do contribute to crashes. ?That
includes the Soneri, KRs, Zeniths, early GlasAirs, Lancairs, and the list goes
on and on. ?I would guess that given an oportunity to fly his plane, one could
pick apart it's handing characteristics as well. ?Everything on an aircraft is
a compromise, so in order to have it do one thing well, something else usually
suffers. ?As a builder, you balance the things that are important to you and
pick your design based on that criteria. ?(mission, cruise speed, landing
speed, climb, responsiveness, handling characteristics, cost to build, cost to
operate, building complexity, engine choice, useful load, gross weight, storage
options, operating range)

For the most part, he is attempting to draw a conclusion by comparing apples to
brocolli, aspragus and fruitcake. ?It's meaningless drivel that he put up to
draw attention to himself.

KR> The KR2 or Sonerai 2 is a funeral waiting to happen

2014-02-13 Thread brian.kraut at eamanufacturing.com
What a bone head. I will have to have a word with him at Sun N Fun if
he is there.

Interesting part about the RV safety record and the more reliable engine
distorting the statistics. It is true that the vast majority of RV
builders use factory new engines or they build new ones themselves at a
factory build center. If everyone building a KR or Sonerai had $25K for
a brand new O-200 the safety record would skyrocket and if all the RV
builders were using auto conversions they would be killing people every
day. Don't take this as a bash on auto conversions. They are safe and
reliable when done correctly, but not as reliable as a brand new or
overhauled aircraft engine.
