KR> VW Question

2009-09-16 Thread Dan Heath
So, could I deduce from that, that if your oil temps are too cool, 20 - 50
might be a good thing?

Thanks for the info.

Per Steve Bennett's manual.

Only use 30W or 10w30 in a vw.
The VW oil control springs rely on 30W oil to open the passage to the
oil cooler when the oil is at the correct temp.
By using 20w50 the viscosity is thicker which causes the oil control
spring not letting oil thru the cooler until a higher temp is reached.

I have searched Steve Bennett's site looking for the recommended oil Vis,
and cannot find it. He has moved stuff around, I am sure it is still there,
but cannot find it.

Can you tell me what it is, for the 2180 after breakin?

Thank you.

KR> VW question

2008-10-12 Thread Lee Van Dyke
Netters,

For those of you who know a thing or two about the VW, I have a question re:
the placement of the oil presure probe. Right now it is at the front of the
left side looking at it from the front. there are two soft plugs in the front
left area. One on top of the case just behind the current location and one in
the front of the case just below the distibutor hole. My question is... can I
plud the current hole and tap one of these other locations to put the probe?

KR> VW Question

2008-10-12 Thread Lee Van Dyke
Netters,

I have a VW 1835, per Great planes, a non detergent oil should be used. OK
time they are a changing. What about a synthetic oil and what weight? Steve
B. I know that you keep an eye on this site. Is there any reason why I can't
use a synthetic oil. My mino Cooper goes 15k in between oil changes. Using
Castrol Synthetic only.
