KR> Web Site Host

2008-10-12 Thread Mark Jones
Hi Guys,
Sorry, this is a little off subject but it does concern my KR web page. I need
a new host, not a free one because they suck. I now use free Netscape and you
can access my site only about half the time. It used not to be that way but I
think they are overloaded. I need recommendations of good web hosts. I am not
html literate so I guess I need a host which is capable of uploading files and
not having to enter everything in html. Any suggestions would be appreciated
BUT PLEASE e-mail me directly at flyk...@wi.rr.com with information.

Thanks,

KR> Web Site Host

2008-10-12 Thread Kevin Farley
Well, I sent an email to you (Mark), but I'll include this for others
as well.

I currently host websites for people myself. Depending on the features
that you want in your website, and the amount of space that you require
I can get you a VERY good deal. (But only cuz you're KR builders
*wink*)

Currently, I don't have any packages setup for hosting KR sites, but it
would only take me a minute to due so. If there are several people
interested, we can compile a list of features that everyone would like
to have and I'll put it together. Every site will include it's own
unique login and control panel, as well as access to perl/cgi if you
want it. I'll also include a domain name in the package. (For those
of you that don't know what that means, it's like www.krnet.org.)

As much as I'd like to give you pictures of my own airplane, I regret
to inform you that I'm NOT currently a builder (although I am a pilot,
and my brother IS a KR builder.) I also host and webmaster for Tony
Pileggi (http://www.corsair82.com).

Thanks,

Kevin Farley

Kevin,
So tell us what a Linux package with 2500mb space and say 1000gb transfer/mo
with domain name, 10 sub domains and web builder software and real time
control panel would cost us per month.

Kevin, I was just trying to compare your pricing to a host who offers all
that for only 4.95 per month. I think that will be pretty hard to beat. Plus
if you pay for two teays in advance, they waive the $20 set up fee and your
domain name is free for those two years. Here is the link for those of you
who wish to check it out:

Before jumping into a discount hosting plan, you should search the
forums at www.webhostingtalk.com. Some people seem able to have a bad
experience with even the best host, but, if all you find in a search
are negative comments, then it might be best to look elsewhere.

I agree. We used a discounter to set up our website a couple of years
ago. While we never really had any trouble with the hosting outfit, the
registrar was another story. We NEVER received ANY notice about renewing
the domain name, and since that is an annual thing, it is easy to
forget. A squatter took it over, so we just dropped the whole thing. I
just checked and it now comes up as "not found" so maybe we can get it
back again.

2008-10-12 Thread Kevin Farley
I agree 100% with Patrick on this one... Most cheap hosts that offer
that much, are that cheap for a reason. NOT all, mind you and I can't
say anything about the one that was mentioned in particular... BUT
That's for you to make up your mind about. What really concerns me
about the host that was mentioned before is that it has no restrictions
on content. Meaning that your site will most likely be on shared
hosting with porn sites as well as music/software pirates. While I'm
not knocking those, it is a MAJOR source of trouble on most hosts.

Having said all that, Steve asked about asp and aspx services. I'm
sorry to say that I can't offer those as they are limited to Microsoft
servers. I did resell on these for a while, but they were discount
plans and usually were down without real tech support for sometimes
hours, sometimes days. Sorry.

Mark, I hadn't mentioned a price yet, just because I was wanting to
know what all people were wanting as far as features go. For what I
mentioned before, it would be $55 a year. That includes the price of
the domain (one year terms), all mentioned items, and no setup fee.

OK Guys,
I originally asked that any comments on web hosting be sent directly to me
and somehow it has become a thread on the KR Net. Let this e-mail end that
thread as like I have said before in previous e-mails, this is a forum for
building and flying KR aircraft, not for long threads on off topic issues. I
apologize to all that this became a thread on the Net as I did not intend
for it to happen that way. Let's get back to KR talk. Thanks guys.

There's a rumor of something being done about that. I wasn't paying much
attention, but something about an emulator. I'm in the middle of learning
VB.Net, which is why I asked.
