Richard & Vicki Alps will be at Red Oak.

Arriving early Thursday by camper. Confess we haven't made reservations for
that, and don't know the phone or location of camp grounds. We could use a
little help in that area. Also, would like to rent a car for the duration so
we will have some way to get from the camp grounds to the airport??

Plan to be there for the whole thing. I have twenty year old plans for a KR-2,
and want to build a KR-2S. I have two Corvair engines, not rebuilt yet, but
have William Wynne's instruction book. Also have a stack of spruce, a pile of
foam, and three boxes of plywood... you know, the expensive kind that is
aircraft grade and ultra thin, like 5/32" or something like that.

Other than that, we are set. Look for an older couple. I am 64 and wife is 9

Look forward to meeting everyone.

Earlier today I was wondering what it would take for the probably large
group of KR owners who don't have "show quality" planes to show up at the
Gatherings. My only thought was to promise that I won't be laughing at ANY
KR that flies in, because you're already way ahead of me, have demonstrated
a rare determination to actually finish one of these things, and are
probably a motherlode of KR building and piloting experience. So please,
bring it on, and bring along any other KRs that you find along the way.

KR> ROLL CALL

2008-10-12 Thread Kenneth B. Jones
Well, I didn't actually build it. I bought it. But I did contribute to its
ugliness afterwards. N5834 was certificated in 1995. I am at least the
6th owner after the builder, make that final builder. This plane traveled
all over Florida, to Texas and had 3 owners in Ohio. (I actually picked it
up in Michigan.) Not one of them admits to ever flying it.

BTW, I am determined to finish my White Lightning, but I realized last
November that it was going to take a lot longer than I thought. So I
purchased this completed, certificated KR-2 and worked on it for 6 months
prior to flying it.

The question remains, "Will there be an ugly award?"

Bring in on Ken, we'll be the judge of ugly or not. Nothing that flies
is considered ugly in my book. Even a buzzard is beautiful in the
air. Your KR would not be the only one to go home without a
trophy. Only one KR wins the "best KR" award and I'm expecting
mine to be a "looser" too so you can park next to me.
