HI Robin

Are you trying to contact me direct and not through the KRnet? I get a lot of
spam caught in my spam catcher but none from you. I got your earlier e-mail
through the KRnet and replied both on the KRnet and by direct e-mail. I take it
you got them both. I've not had any complaints from anyone else.

KR> e-mail - no subject / Gathering hotel

2008-10-12 Thread Larry Flesner

Netters,

Sorry, that last e-mail was intended for Video Bob. I grabbed one
of his old e-mails and hit reply thinking it was going back to him.
I noticed the address as I hit send. At this point, if any of you
KNOW FOR SURE who won what ( I think I remember most
of the winners) you can e-mail me at:

fles...@verizon.net

While I have your attention, if I still do, the Holiday Inn at Mt.Vernon
is giving us a rate of $70 + tax a night per room for either a
single king size bed or two doubles. The info update should
appear soon on the Gathering web page at:

www.krgathering.org

Make sure you tell them you're with the Gathering or it will
be $100+ per night. This is a $4 increase over the last two years.
The Holiday Inn is a fine hotel but there are less expensive options
available. For more info, visit the web page.

Thanks,

Larry Flesner

KR> e-mail problems / landing a KR

2008-10-12 Thread fles...@midwest.net

I've switched to Verison DSL and I'm experiancing some e-mail
problems so I hope this goes out.

On landing a KR, I agree with Mark L. and Bill C. that you have
to wheel land a KR to get consistantly good landings. I have
three pointed my KR a time or two in little or no wind conditions
but it was just by luck.

The thing is with most KRs you can't put the airplane in a full stall
attitude without the tailwheel touching first as Bill C. stated. This
will cause the mains to contact with a thud and put you right back
into the air. My KR has longer than standard gear legs and my
three-point attitude on the ground is approx 12 degrees and my
KR has the 3.5 degrees set into the wings. This is still less than
the wing stall angle of 14 to 16 degrees so even if I make a
three point touchdown, the KR is still capable of flight. Any rebound
from the gear or a gust of wind can have me airborne.

My landings in the KR go as follows:

Once established in the flare I try to hold it just inches off the runway.
The angle of attach increases until I'm in a tail-low attitude as the
mains touch. Once the mains touch I come forward on the stick just
enough to hold the mains on the runway. Remember, you are still
several mph above stall speed. Once I can no longer hold the tail up
I'm below stall speed and I come full back on the stick and begin
braking.

The worst landings result from flaring too high and then trying to hold
it off too long and the tail touches first. On a short grass strip I will
sometimes let it settle on a bit fast in the flare in a near level attitude
so I can start getting the braking action of the grass quicker. Once the
mains touch, a bit of forward stick plants the airplane. It is much more
stable and controllable in this attitude then "wollowing" down to stall
speed, drifting, touching tail first, boucning, etc. I'm convinced that
a tail low wheel landing is the only way to land with any crosswind.

As always, your results may vary.

Guys, can someone help Kjeld with his problem. I'd normally have sent this
to Mark Langford but since he's away, I'm hoping someone else can help him.
Reader's Digest version he sent a note to the Matronics KR list to but
wasn't getting any e-mails. I happened to see it there and responded that the
activity was on this list. He asked me to subscribe him. I explained that I
couldn't but told him how to subscribe. I got a note back that he had
subscribed
then, a few days later, he sent me the following:

So I asked if maybe he had gotten the two lists confused since
that e-mail to me had come from the other list. He sent me
this reply:

2008-10-12 Thread mailbox bob at mail.flyboybob.com
KRnetters,

My understanding is that Mark has the attachment capability turned off for
KRnet. If you receive messages with attachments from KRnet, then they are
not legitimate, they were sent from a virus infected computer other than the
KRnet server.

To test my theory, I'm attaching a jpg picture of my battery to this message
to see if it gets sent out to all of us on KRnet.

Sorry Ed, I'm just getting around to reading your email but like Mark and
others say, I didn't send it. Matter of fact, I got it with Virg's address
attached to it. My anti virus detected it and deleted the attachment. Look
close at the email, they look like they are from the KRnet but really are
not.

Keep your anti virus updated or save us all the trouble and unplug from the
net. That's not directed at any one person, just a blanket statement.
