Re: KR> Engine mount

2019-01-14 Thread CHRIS GARDNER via KRnet
Leif,Pressure relief holes are not needed in your engine mount unless you plan
on having it “normalized” after welding to relieve stresses.I wanted to do that
after TIG welding but forgot to vent each tube beforehand. The temperatures used
to normalize or stress relieve the mount would cause them to burst if not
vented.Anyway no issues with cracks in spite of omitting that process.Your
decision.CheersChris Gardiner

Re: KR> Engine mount offset

2018-09-02 Thread Mark Langford via KRnet

Leif,

Most people just build the mount with no compensation for engine torque.
There are so many other factors that something else is likely to
cancel it out, and if not, that's what trim tabs are used for. You
could always stack washers or other spacers under the appropriate mount
corners to compensate for some really pronounced issue, but I doubt that
you'll identify such an issue that can be traced directly back to the
engine mount.

4130 steel, which is a chrome moly steel. All the details are at

wall thickness.

For those of you that have built an o-200 mount, How much do you have to bend
or bow the crossover tube to get around the alt. ? I might have to run the
factory alt. since I have one and $500 is money that could be put on a radio or
something else that I don't have at the moment. I have been off all week and
have been kickin butt on the KR this week. I built the mount today and just
need the crossover info before welding her up. Thanks.

I saw one or two post to your question and one suggested you install
the engine and do a W &B to determine location. I see no point in
building two engine mounts. Do a complete W&B series without the
engine, complete with fuel and pilot and passenger, and then
determine the engine location using paper and pencil. Use the center
of mass of the engine for the moment arm and don't forget the weight
and arm of the mount, cowl, prop, spinner, battery, etc. The front
two or three inches of the CG range would be a good target with pilot
and fuel if adding a passenger doesn't move the CG beyond the aft limit.

I just checked my block:

Fore to Aft, center of hole to center of hole: 10.125"

Left to Right, center of hole to center of hole: 10.250"
