[Bug 290027] Re: krita cannot open photoshop files

2009-09-16 Thread Harald Sitter
Bug importances are not set because some developer (or bug triager) considers
it important or unimportant for himself but for the larger part of the target
audience (users).
It is wishlist because it is not urgent to the existence of Kubuntu or Ubuntu
or Linux or even Krita, even it was it probably would still not get beyond
importance Low because it is a feature request, no more and no less than that.
PSD is a non-standardized proprietary format for which support could break with
the next release of PS because Adobe decides to change the format around. Also
PSD is specifically concepted for PS, while krt is concepted for Krita and xcf
is for Gimp. They are specific storage formats for specific applications, being
able to open them is not primary objective of any pixel editor. If Krita could
not open PNG it would be importance High or Critical, JPEG or GIF would be
Critical (especially if it was working before), if import of certain files
causes a crash it would probably be Medium and if there were some random
rendering issue in, say, SVG rendering it would be low (since Krita aint is no
vector graphics application). Wishlist is a request for features that are not
yet available and might not be made available.

So here is why you don't need points 2to5 for this particular bug. The Ubuntu
archive is split into 2 main parts called main and universe. Former receives
(security) updates and is supported by Canonical (the main company behind
Ubuntu), while the latter is mostly community driven. Core KDE is in main while
random KDE apps that are not of interest for the Kubuntu default system reside
mostly in universe. So, since one part is supported and the other only as far
as the community wants to go, packages in main can not depend on such in
universe (otherwise the whole splitting by support level would not make any
sense and all 20k packages would need to receive updates of any kind).
Meaning, we are talking politics here. Koffice at this point cannnot be built
with PSD support because the package required for that would need to be in
main, but it is not. What needs to be done is either get graphicsMagick to main
(which is very unlikely to happen due to its massiveness et all). Other options
would include talking to the Krita developers whether they would consider
splitting the plugin into a separate source tarball which can reside in main
(so PSD support can be available in Ubuntu after installing an additional
package), or split the plugin out ourselfs, or not support PSD, or find some
other fancy solution.
In either case the actual (technical) implementation would take no more than a
couple of minutes, what takes time is finding the best approach to this which
fits the requirements of users, Ubuntu developers and Krita developers.

[Bug 338669] Re: (Needs UXA) painting artifacts after qt4.5 upgrade on intel chipset

2009-09-16 Thread Viktor Ferenczi
Something similar also happens to me since I installed Ubuntu 9.04 amd64
(clean installation).

OS: Ubuntu 9.04 amd64, up to date
CPU: Intel Q6600 CPU
System RAM: 8G
Graphics card: 06:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation
GeForce 8600 GT [10de:0402] (rev a1)
Video RAM: 256M RAM

I'm using the proprietary nVidia drivers (v180), but it does not seem to be the
cause.
Reverting to the older v173 drivers does not change the situation.

I'm using GNOME, but have to use KMail as well, since I've been using
that for years and can't live without those filters and accounts. KMail
is badly affected by repaint artifacts, unfortunately. I've also
observed the same problem in SkyPE 2.1.0.47 and in the menus/context
menus of Mozilla Firefox 3.0.14.

I'm going to attach a screenshot of broken KMail mail list view.

The bug is listed as "Fix Released" here, but updating my system does
not solve the problem.

Is there a way to get it fixed without completely upgrading to Karmic
Koala?

[Bug 430105] Re: amarok doesn't depend on libqt4-sql-sqlite

2009-09-16 Thread roland
@#2: I am suggesting libqt4-sql-sqlite should be in depends.

What I want is to be able to use amarok after a simple
apt-get install amarok on jaunty.

What happens:
I wanted to use amarok so I just did:
$ sudo apt-get install amarok
$ amarok

I got a screen where I could choose what directories to import.
It was automatically selected to use a sqlite database, and it
couldn't import any songs.

After a:
$ apt-get install libqt4-sql-sqlite
it worked.

In retrospect, I have used amarok on 8.10 before. I just copied my 8.10 ~/Music
to my new install. So a old sqlite db could have been in there.

Either way, it didn't work out of the box as I expected so moving
libqt4-sql-sqlite to
the depends would help a lot.

[Bug 430642] [NEW] Kile doesn't run apport on Crash but rather Dr Konqui

2009-09-16 Thread Muelli
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-runtime

I expected apport to run and to collect data once Kile crashes, but
instead the KDE own solution, Dr Konqui IIRC runs.

To reproduce, simple run kile and do a pkill -SEGV kile afterwards. See
Dr Konqui popping up instead of Apport. This is a Qt wide issue, because
making KCachegrind crash doesn't pop apport up as well.

[Bug 430660] [NEW] KPDF doesn't reload changed file

2009-09-16 Thread Muelli
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kpdf

When developing PDF files in Kile, the produced PDF changes rather often.
KPDF, however, doesn't reload the changed file which is pretty annoying since I
have to close KPDF and reopen it again.

I expected it to reload the once it has changed as Evince does. Maybe
asking me whether I want to reload the file since it has changed would
be nice (that is Kiles default behaviour).

Nota Bene: I can't manually reload, too. So adding a Menuitem "Reload

[Bug 430105] Re: amarok doesn't depend on libqt4-sql-sqlite

2009-09-16 Thread Harald Sitter
Well, at the very most it could be Recommends, but for sure not Depends. The
thing is, libqt4-sql-sqlite is only necessary to enable upgrades from Amarok 1
to Amarok 2, so it does not affect new installations at all and theoretically a
user could remove the package once upgraded, thus it should not be Depends.
So I would move the sqlite support lib to Recommends (leave the others at
suggests since they were only options in Amarok 1).

Here comes the BUT. We cant fix this in 9.04. Additional packages will not be
installed in a regular update (policy thing), so it would require user
invention, which is not too nice for an update.
Resolving this for 9.10+ should be a fair bet though.

[Bug 430666] Re: Kile ViewPDF doesn't offer system PDF viewer

2009-09-16 Thread Harald Sitter
Hey there.

Unfortunately we can't fix this (rather we do not want to). We could
patch xdg-open support in, but then we would have to do that for all
tool operations that could possibly make use of xdg-open resulting in a
quite big patch. Thus I am closing this bug as Won't Fix.

Please file a wish at https://bugs.kde.org for Kile. If the Kile
developers add xdg-open support we do not have to maintain a patch + it
should go into the official Kile code base anyway.

Thank you for this report. If you need help with filing a bug at

[Bug 430810] [NEW] LDAP lookup in Kontact causes crash

2009-09-16 Thread Simon Jagoe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdepim

Upstream bug https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=206024 in KDE 4.3.1. I
believe it is fixed in upstream SVN changeset
http://websvn.kde.org/?view=rev&revision=1019115. I have yet to actually
build and test this, but I intend to submit a build to my PPA tonight.

To reproduce:
   * Set up an LDAP lookup in Kontact (Setting -> Configure Kontact -> Contacts
-> LDAP Lookup)
   * Start an email in KMail
   * Enter an address in the To: field that will be auto-completed with LDAP
rather than with a 'recently contacted' (local) list

Expected:
   * The address is completed and filled in automatically

Actual:
   * All of Kontact crashes

This occurred in the Jaunty backport of KDE 4.3.1 from the kubuntu-ppa
backports repository. ppa version of the package is
4:4.3.1-0ubuntu1~jaunty1~ppa2.

[Bug 431164] [NEW] Shutdown widget/power button touch inoperative for first boot

2009-09-16 Thread Scott Kitterman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

Karmic Alpha 6 Kubuntu Netbook candidate ISO.

Did the install and after the first boot, neither the widget in the
panel nor touching the power button would bring up the power devil
dialogue to logout/shutdown/restart. After restarting with sudo reboot,
then it worked normally. The lock screen widget worked fine even during
the first boot.
