[Bug 1532402] [NEW] unable to open apt to umload extra packages

2016-01-09 Thread Smithie
Public bug reported:

On closing the alert field it has a screen that states apt has crashed and to
report the bug using the method I have stated.
It's loading in BIOS compatibility mode coz my new Intel NUC uses BIOS. It's
also loading a duel boot with Win7 Pro. All partitions exist coz Gparted did
that for me.
Thanx
Kevin

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

We noticed that some of the sentences in this bug report are not in
English.

If they were translated to English they would be more understandable to
triagers.

Could you please translate them?

[Bug 1449726] Re: Kubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) plasmashell crashes with segmentation fault

2016-01-09 Thread Graham
I get a Plasma shell crash at varying times - usually once a day or so.
Something that seems to trigger it fairly predictably is switching
desktops while certain activities are busy doing network stuff.

I'm a web developer and I have Kate sessions with several dozen files
open, such as all the PHP from a WordPress site. I have Dolphin on one
desktop and Kate on another. If I open a new batch of remote files from
Dolphin, the system (Kubuntu 15.10) switches desktops and opens the new
files, but if I don't wait for this to finish and go back to Dolphin (or
elsewhere) Plasma tends to crash, usually not offering to restart (but
perhaps that message window is on a now-inaccessible desktop?).

The window on the current desktop is still active, but with no system
tray I can't move from it. Once I close it I get a black screen and the
only way the system will then respond is Ctrl-Alt-Del or Alt-F-something
to start a new login shell. I'm not sufficiently experienced to know how
to restart Plasma, or even if it's possible.

I have no great interest in operating systems; I just use them. I pick
the one that lets me do my work cleanly, and until Plasma 5 KDE/Kubuntu
was streets ahead of anything else. If there were something on Windows
to match Dolphin/Kate for seamless local and remote file management I'd
go there. It's a shame that Plasma 5 is a several-steps downgrade in
reliability terms.

[Bug 1531766] Re: krunner dies when second monitor is attached, before startup of machine

2016-01-09 Thread Uqbar
Nope. I searched into Launchpad alone: that'd not be the first time such bugs
have been introduced by the packager.
The bug has been "created" and "reported" upstream, not addressed (in the sense
worked on/solved) at all.

2016-01-09 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your installation media (CD/DVD).
You can verify the integrity of the Ubuntu ISO files you downloaded by
following the instructions at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM. You might also retry
your installation with new media. In the event that is is not in fact
an error with your installation media please set the bug's status back
to New. Thanks and good luck!

[Bug 1388538] Re: Ark fails to produce zip archive instead making gzip with the zip suffix

2016-01-09 Thread Mahendra Tallur
Hi ! Bug still affects the LTS users (Kubuntu 14.04 LTS with the KDE
backports PPA enabled). Can people using Kubuntu 15.10 confirm it was
fixed meanwhile ?

Result is that Windows users cannot read the archives sent to them.
Maybe it's too late to fix it anyway. for the current LTS.

Out of curiosity, Is there a way to help put the focus on some bugs like
this that seem to be understood, have important consequences on users,
that could supposedly be worked around easily but which remain unfixed ?
Especially for LTS releases.

I guess it's very difficult as developers are flooded with bug reports,
I clearly do not blame them !

Best regards.

I did want to uninstall anything. So I end up adding a ExecStartPre line
to check for default display manager on legacy settings /etc/X11
/default-display-manager, now it's working well:

/lib/systemd/system/sddm.service

After=systemd-user-sessions.service getty@tty1.service plymouth-quit.service

ExecStartPre=/bin/sh -c '[ "$(basename $(cat /etc/X11/default-display-manager
2>/dev/null))" = "sddm" ]'
ExecStart=/usr/bin/sddm

Re: [Bug 1532402] Re: unable to open apt to umload extra packages

2016-01-09 Thread Smithie
Thank you for your quick reply.
After trying a different installation (LinuxMint KDE)with the same
resulting bug I searched the Linux Forums wherein some of the experienced
Linux users did not hold Unetbootin in high regard so I concluded the
problem was in my Unetbootin Live USB software.
Consequently I discovered and used the same type of program loaded with my
install of LinuxMint KDE 17x and lo and behold the iso images loaded and I
had no more problems.
Thanks
Kevin
PS I did use the checksums!
