[Bug 853570] [NEW] KDE crashes to KDM when using effects only when logging in via KDM (startx works)

2011-09-18 Thread Jason Straight
Public bug reported:

As the summary says: KDE crashes during loading to KDM when effects are
enabled about 9 out of 10 times.

After logging in the 2nd time after such a crash effects are disabled, I
can re-enable them w/o issue. Until I log out and in again, and it
crashes again.

Using startx to start KDE it works flawlessly, never crashes.

[Bug 683375] [NEW] kde network manager connects to weak signal access point in multiple node wireless environment

2010-11-30 Thread Jason Straight
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: plasma-widget-networkmanagement

KDE network manager connects often to the weaker of two similarly named
SSID's, causing network packet loss. Gnome nm-applet doesn't seem to
suffer from this. Specifying the BSSID would be a possible workaround if
that worked in KDE, that's a whole other bug report.

Is there any hope for KDE/wireless, the kde wireless app has stunk for
years now.

[Bug 368620] Re: KAlarm does not work with KMail identities

2009-06-08 Thread Jason Straight (LeeJunFan)
I don't suppose there's any chance of getting this patched and
recompiled? There's no release schedule for 4.2.5, and 4.3 is a way off.

Unfortunately I updated a friend's computer [from hardy] who was quite
reliant on kalarm for e-mailing notifications to SMS to remind him of
meds, as his short term memory is shot.

I tried installing build-deps for kalarm to do it myself but they
weren't available. It looks like it might be more than I can chew.

[Bug 194474] Re: [hardy] kded in loop (100%CPU) when using 'mount automatically'

2008-02-27 Thread Jason Straight (LeeJunFan)
yes, I've found that it works on first run, ie when kded first starts.
Or if you killall -9 kded and restart kded it will mount them correctly,
but after kded is already running and you plug in a device with 'mount
automatically' selected it goes into 100% cpu condition.

strace shows that it tries to write apparently to dcopserver right
before this happens, then nothing else is reported.

[Bug 30207] Re: media:/ does not handle floppy mounting correctly

2006-05-29 Thread Jason Straight \(LeeJunFan\)
well mine's actually an external, group == plugdev, /dev/sda, but adding
myself to disk nonetheless did the trick. I realize disk is a security
risk, as it gives full access to hd's as well. It would seem there is
something with the actual mounting process of hal/udev that's using disk
wrongly.

Thing is that with my external I WAS experiencing the same issues
mounting floppies as everyone else even though I was in group plugdev
and the device had group ownership of plugdev. I'm really not sure why
grp disk comes into play here.

[Bug 30207] Re: media:/ does not handle floppy mounting correctly

2006-05-26 Thread Jason Straight \(LeeJunFan\)
I figured this out - want to know how? Send me a dollar! :p

okay, I'm not super educated on HAL, or udev, so I'm not sure where this
permission/group stuff is configured. But apparently hal needs the user
attempting to mount the floppy to belong to group disk. Once I added my
user to disk I was able to mount floppies.

gpasswd -a [username] disk, log out/in and should be good to go.

At least this worked from my removable floppy.

[Bug 37416] Openoffice.org doesn't support media:/

2006-03-31 Thread Jason Straight \(LeeJunFan\)
Public bug reported:

Affects: kdebase (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Confirmed

Description:
If you try to load or save documents using the kde filedialog and choose
storage media it will not work because openoffice.org won't play with
KDE's media:/ url

Why can't kde just expand the damn paths so their url's don't break
every non kde app on the planet? argh

[Bug 30207] media:/ does not handle floppy mounting correctly

2006-03-23 Thread Jason Straight \(LeeJunFan\)
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/30207

Comment:
I am having the same problem with dapper today, the only difference is
that konqueror accesses it via system:/media/fd0 rather than media:/fd0

Still it mounts the floppy, but never shows the contents, konquerors
action icon swirls away like it's waiting for the contents to load. If I
browse manually to /media/fd0 the contents are shown, and like you mtab
and proc/mounts show the mount just fine. KDE just refuses to believe
the disk is mounted, later clicks try to mount it again and fail with
the message that it's already mounted.

Comment:
May help you a bit until system: and/or media: are better.

You can create a link to a device on your desktop for the floppy and KDE
will treat it correctly, probably because it goes to /media/fd0 not
through system:/ or media:/

[Bug 32961] Changing resolution in kde display properties

2006-03-17 Thread Jason Straight \(LeeJunFan\)
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/32961

Task: ubuntu kde-guidance
 Status: Unconfirmed = Rejected

Comment:
This wasn't so much a bug as a change in kde PLUS display preferences being
broken.

1. It used to be accessible from right clicking on the desktop and going to
desktop settings.
2. It wasn't reachable because at the time display was not reachable from
kcontrol, that was addressed in another bug and fixed.

DPMS is power saving for your monitor.
