[libreoffice-l10n] blocked items on Weblate

2024-05-19 Thread kees538
A couple of days ago some items where added to the UI-master and the
Help-master on Weblate.

However they are still blocked for translation.
When will they be released for translation?

Kind regards,
Kees

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Tips on translating in Weblate

2024-05-13 Thread kees538

Lars Jødal schreef op 12.05.2024 16:24:

Hello

As a relatively new user of Weblate, I want to say thank you for the
reception in the project by sharing some ideas and tips I have gathered
by now (partly from Sophie, partly from my own experiences).

"Zen mode" gives a view that focuses on the current list of
translations, while some extra information is not shown. It can give a
better overview, but does not show the information used in the tips
below.

At the right side of the screen is a Glossary window. The glossary list
is a list of English words/phrases along with translations in the
language worked upon. When you work on a string to translate, the
Glossary window will show words/phrases from the string found in the
glossary list, along with the translations from the list. This can help
to be consistent in translation. New glossaries can be added with "Add
term to glossary" (the term will be the current string, but can be
edited before saving).

Below the Glossary window is a String information window. In this
window you can find a link "Source string location". The link opens a
new window that shows the source code where the string appears. This
can help give the context of the string.

Under the current string, the button "Other languages" will display a
list of how the string is translated in other supported languages. If
you (to some extend) understand one or more of the other languages, it
may give you inspiration for translation to your own language. This can
be especially helpful if a language close to your own is farther in
translation than your own language.

You can also add a secondary language to your profile, so it is
permanently visible above the English item. Go to the Profile button on
the upper right of the screen and choose Settings. On the Language tab
search for Secondary languages. There you can choose a language to add
to your screen.

Regards,
Kees

These ideas have been helpful for me. Perhaps they can be helpful for
others, too.

Regards,
Lars

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Abbreviation for Drag 'n Drop

2024-01-09 Thread kees538
In Dutch it would be "Slepen en neerzetten" but the abbriviation SnN
also would not be understood.

Kees

Heiko Tietze schreef op 08.01.2024 09:34:
Some effort is currently made by Jim to allow drag'n drop from the
Navigator not just as link but also to get cross-references into the
document. Users can trigger the function via pup-up menu or per
accelerator. And to give a clue about the latter we should add some
text to the menu, which could be "Insert as Text Reference (DnD+Shift)"
(for the full list of commands see attachment to
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36310#c21).

Now I wonder if DnD for Drag'n Drop is well-known and easy to
translate. German could be "Ziehen & Ablegen" abbreviated to "Z" -
which users would never understand. Any idea?

Hi Cor

Android-Viewer is separate from LibreOffice online that is in attic

They can't be enabled because it corresponds to LibreOffice online,
which by decision of the Board of Directors, had its development and
translations frozen.

See the decision here:
https://community.documentfoundation.org/t/vote-libreoffice-online-repository-and-translations/8893/15?u=sophi

I think that is not a correct explanation of the situation, Sophie
(although I can imagine that various posts in that topic you mention,
give such an impression, unfortunately). The work on the repository
itself was frozen, due to lack of interest, the ESC and the board
confirmed that, according to the attic policy(1).

If it would be true that these strings cannot be translated, it should
of course be fixed.

However, looking at the android repo, I see e.g. (2, 3) and the fact

The choice of Vegur as the branding font for LibreOffice goes back

Why not choose from SIL fonts ? Their i18n support is comprehensive

Thanks for the suggestion -- do you have a specific font in mind?

Why not choose Liberation Sans like in the Guides?

Or, perhaps the sister project considers that only 'Western' languages

Not at all, and clearly Vegur is lacking. Let's find a font that works

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Automatic translations in Weblate

sophi schreef op 23.02.2022 15:46:

Hi all,

Following the request made by Stanislav and Olivier on automatic
translation built-in support in Weblate, we discussed the topic
yesterday during our team meeting.
Currently we rely on automatic suggestions from Weblate TM and amaGama
TM, meaning there is no AI added.
The possibility to include Aws, Microsoft, Google, DeepL, Baidu and
more is already there in Weblate, see:
https://docs.weblate.org/en/latest/admin/machine.html

Doing some research on the different translators available, I've seen
some are really high in costs and/or do not cover a large range of
languages. Traductor requests to be added in credits, I don't know for
others.

Yesterday, Olivier proposed Matecat (https://www.matecat.com/) which
is an open source project. He is using it with the Brazilian community
and it gives them very good results. From what I've tested, it
supports a large range of languages, can be used locally. However not
relevant here, I found their support for a large type of file formats
very interesting too.

Could you give a test to Matecat and let me know:
- if that would work for your language
- if there are more appropriate translators for your language that
already exists (for example, Hossein told us about
https://github.com/targoman for Persian).

Thanks a lot in advance for your help!
Cheers
Sophie

Hi all,

With the last month of the year coming, it's time again to share what
happened in your local teams and communities to help Mike building the
Annual Report.

After those hard times we all encounter, let's have good memories from
this year with all what we have been able to achieve be it alone at
home

or via virtual platforms or in presence :)

Please don't be shy, even if it seems few for you, it's already a big
step! We want to show everything our diverse community have done.

I've prepared the pad here:
https://pad.documentfoundation.org/p/annualreport

There are already some main parts but if your contribution doesn't fit
in one of these parts, don't hesitate to add yours.

If you do not feel comfortable with the pad, just send me what you want
to add, I'll do it. And if you have any question, do not hesitate to
come back to me.

Cheers

Hi Christian and all,

I don't know if the team is thinking about removing older projects
from
weblate but for Portuguese language, I can assure you that you can
remove

all 6.x projects because I'm the only one working on Libreoffice
translation and, for sure, I won't be touching that files anymore.

Sérgio didn't elaborate the reason he wants the 6.x translations
removed, so

I'd like to concur and add a few comments about my experiences.

Currently all five UI branches -- 6.3, 6.4, 7.0, 7.1, and master are
linked together,
so that changing translation of one old string on Weblate would trigger
five
changes, one in each branch. I assume for Help it's the same
situation.

This clutters quite a few places like my Profile > Recent Changes,
History of the
language overview page, etc. So if for whatever reason the old
branches should

be kept (I can think of a few), unlink them from master/7.1 so that
they won't be
automatically updated would be desirable.

Ming

So if you think a good idea, please remove all Portuguese related
files for

those projects.

Regards

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Localised gallery item titles - yay or nay?

Yes, I think it is important to be able to translate the tootips of the

There are more places where items are not translated. In the key-id
version there are no codes for Weblate to find and translate them.

There is this old request:

GALLERY: image tooltips/names not translated

If it were to be implemented, localisation information would have to
be somehow included inside the gallery packages. In other words, many
unknowns and moving parts. Also pending the finishing of the migration
to the new gallery package format.

I wanted to ask from the localisation community, do you consider it
important to have these translatable?

Mihkel Tõnnov schreef op 08.07.2020 20:57:

Hi *,

There's a problematic string in LibO UI cui/messages.po which for many
languages has been impossible to properly localize:
"Need to insert the date in a spreadsheet cell? Type %MOD1+; or
Shift+%MOD1+; to insert the time."

Many European keyboard layouts don't have a dedicated semicolon key
(Shift+comma is used instead), so only one of these shortcuts works
(the

one for time).

For a handful of languages, there has been an exception added to the
code

to use %MOD1+comma and Shift+%MOD1+comma instead:
Finnish (fi) - translations still refers to semicolon
Portuguese in Europe (pt) - translation completely omits the
second/third

key in the shortcut
Portuguese in Brasil (pt-BR) - translations still refers to semicolon
Russian (ru) - translations still refers to semicolon
Spanish (es) (not translated)

Starting from LibreOffice 7.0, the same exception is added for a number
of

additional languages [1]:
Albanian (sq)
Bosnian (bs)
Croatian (hr)
Danish (da)
Dutch in the Netherlands (nl-NL)
German (de)
Estonian (et)
Faroese (fo)
Icelandic (is)
Italian (it)
Norwegian Bokmål (nb)
Norwegian Nynorsk (nn) - also translation probably should say "Tast
«%MOD1

+ ,» eller «Shift + %MOD1 + ,»" not "Skriv" ;)
Romanian (ro)
Serbian (sr)
Slovenian (sl)
Swedish (sv)
Turkish (tr) - also typo in existing translation of "%MOD1"

Members of these language teams should test (using the daily builds) if
the

shortcut works on a system that uses their language for UI [2].
If it does, their translation of the above string should refer to comma
key, not semicolon key.
And if it doesn't work, let me know (along with details about your OS
locale and keyboard and LibO locale/UI language).

Also, I suspect we will need to add exceptions for more languages
still.
So, if your language is not mentioned above, and your keyboard doesn't
have

a separate semicolon key either, then please let me know. I think the
European "smaller" languages are probable candidates here (Lower/Upper
Sorbian, Frisian, Friulian, Galician, Venetian, etc.)

[1] See https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/c/core/+/94305
[2] The exception is unfortunately dependent on UI language, not actual
keyboard layout or even locale - see
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=134470

Mihkel

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] New branches and translation across components

sophi schreef op 12.12.2019 10:29:

Hi all,

Christian has created the 6.4 project in Weblate, therefore master is
now the next 6.5.

Good to know

He has migrated 6.3 project. (Do not forget to managed your watched
project if you want to have them in your Dashboard).

Thanks for the tip.

He has also activated translation across project. It is based on a hash
that Weblate creates based on context and the source string. He limited
the translation to match components of the same name.
In short that means that strings that have the same context will be
translated for all branches at once.

That is a nice feature. Sometimes a translation error is found. Changing
one branch will automaticaly change them all.

Then he sets priorities for the components (Weblate will decide from
that what end's up in "suggested translations") as follow:
- Help Master: lowest priority
- Help Release branch: low priority
- UI Master: low priority
- UI Release branch: high priority.

Oh and maybe I didn't say: we are running Weblate 3.9.1 now

As usual, feedback and advices are welcome :)

Is weblate now used for future updates of the implemented branches? So
we don't have to add or change translations for them in Pootle anymore?
Please add 6.2 and we can leave Pootle for what it is.

Cheers

To search the keyID UJ5WP for example, I did:
- Choose UI project,
- Select Dutch
- Click on the Search button
- Enter comment:UJ5WP in the Query field
- Click on Search button
--> I get the result in your language.

If you go to the Advanced query builder, you have examples of the

select Comment Strings and in Search for, enter UJ5WP and then click on

Hi

I see that searching is changed.
I can no more choose for "Exact match"
And I can no more choose my language, so the result are in all
languages.

Maybe I do something wrong?

Hi,

We have now switched to a dedicated machine to run our Weblate
instance.

Thanks a lot to Guilhem and Christian for their work on that!

If you see "TDF Weblate STAGING - LibreOffice" then, you are on the old
instance where translations are blocked. If you see "TDF Weblate -
LibreOffice" then you are on the new instance, DNS has been updated

As soon as everything is checked on the new machine, we will be able to
upgrade to a newer version. Don't hesitate to send your feedback to the
list.

That is a good suggestion. I will try that.

The naming is not the same, but in the Search type drop down list, you
find Fulltext, Substring, Exact match and regular expression.

Ah yes, I found it. Thanks for the tip.

- The results in Pootle are in a list and the amount of found items is
mentioned. In Weblate only one instance is shown and you have to
search

again for the next.

I get a list, for example searching for Open, I get 7 occurrences,
which

indeed it not complete, but it's a list. Could you send me a sample of
your search so I can reproduce it and see what's going on?

As I search for "Openen" (Open in Dutch) I get a list indeed. Again
thanks for the help.

I think it depends on what you are searching for.

After several tests, I finally was able to retrieve your request for
UJ5WP in the example you sent me. You need to add Exact match in the
Search type and check Comment strings, and you get the result quite
quickly. I'll add it to the FAQ too.

That is it. Great now it works. Thanks a lot for your help.

Looking at the documentation, it seems the search query has changed in
the next version, see:
https://docs.weblate.org/en/latest/user/search.html
hope that will help us to fine tune string search

I hope so too.

Again. Thanks a lot Sophie.

When I translate or change an item, klikking on safe takes about 15

Should be clicking ofcourse ;-0

Apart from the known slowdowns during this operation, weblate doesn't
run on the final hardware yet, we'll have a dedicated machine to run
the translation services on, so performance overall should be a bit
better - but if you experience overall slowdown, please let us know

- translation memory and terminology are not included (should we add
them ourselves?),

No, don't add it yourself, I added translation memory from pootle, but
he way weblate makes use of it doesn't scale for large projects like
ours.
It is again more suited for many little projects. In other words:
Translation memory view is slow and also matches way too loosely to be
useful.
Translation memory will be handled by a separate translation memory
server that we'll hook up to weblate.

What is in weblate is the translation history/cross-referencing of
other same/very similar translated strings.

- instructions for translating refer to old Pootle, e.g. [1].

Is addressing of these issues planned? In other words, is it worth to
wait with translation, or should we live with what we have now?

No, don't wait with translation - 6.4 translation is already in
weblate, there won't be another way to translate for 6.4.

6.3 translations are so far still on pootle, but will eventually also
copied over to weblate instance.

I just tried it again. XML tags are not highlighted in any way, the

nothing

(Firefox 69.0 64-bit on Windows 10 build 18362).
See this segment for example:

BTW clicking on tags as opposed to using Ctr+n-type shortcuts is
important
because when there are more than a few tags (think long paragraphs in
the

shortcut

for transfer instead of just clicking on it.

In Pootle, translators can search specific term/translation in the

project, such as LibreOffice UI, LibreOffice Help, LibreOffice Online,

This feature enables translators to check existing terms or
translations
and fix them. Weblate only provides the search and replace tool, but
not
useful as you typically have to search for existing ones first (view)
and
then to decide to replace them all once or manually change them
according

to the context one by one (edit).

Listing the components as folders under the project and searching text
across the whole project are quite important features in the daily
translation workflow.

The way Pootle works is designed to serve multiple translation files
under

different projects which fits LibreOffice well while Weblate is not.

If we are moving to Weblate, and that should be solved to fill the
missing

gap between them.

Pootle have a nice feature that weblate miss, -> future improvement...

In pootle, clicking on a source XML tag copies it to the cursor
position

in the translation area. Handy to prevent mistakes when typing source
tags (links specially).

You can always use copy past :-)

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Weblate instance for testing purposes

2019-09-07 Thread kees538
I continued doing some translations at Weblate and I must say I get used
to it.
In the beginning all changes are strange and we don’t want to change as
we are used to the current.
As I got more used to Weblate I don’t see many disadvantages any more
and when the history is added I don’t see why we shouldn’t migrate to
it.

Hi all,

We have deployed a Weblate instance for testing purpose here:
https://vm137.documentfoundation.org/

You can login with your Pootle account. Cloph has updated it with the
last strings from master.

*NOTE*: *it is for testing purpose only*, the test will go-on until end
of LibOCon and we will make a decision about migration from Pootle to
Weblate after this test.

Anonymous making suggestions are not reflected here, only those
belonging to a group are able to test.

Your feedback is very welcome of course, we will take it into account
before making a decision.

Don't hesitate if you have question.
Happy testing :)

Weblate has similar feature, see for example:
https://vm137.documentfoundation.org/translate/libo_help-master/textsdraw04/de/?checksum=f7176f58b13e677f#machine
(But weblate only knows has master translations, thus no strings from

previous versions)

That is one feature of pootle that I will mis than.

The translation memory from previous versions can be imported:
https://docs.weblate.org/en/latest/admin/memory.html

Translation memory scopes

New in version 3.2: The different translation memory scopes are
available since Weblate 3.2, prior to this release translation memory
could be only loaded from file corresponding to the current imported
translation memory scope.

The translation memory scopes are there to allow both privacy and
sharing of translations, depending on the actual desired behavior.
Imported translation memory

You can import arbitrary translation memory data using import_memory
command. The memory content will be available for all users and
projects.

https://docs.weblate.org/en/latest/admin/management.html#django-admin-import_memory

manage.py import_memory

Imports a TMX or JSON file into the Weblate Translation Memory.

--language-map LANGMAP

Allows to map languages in the TMX to Weblate one. The language
codes are mapped after normalization usually done by Weblate.

For example --language-map en_US:en will import all en_US strings
as en ones.

This can be useful in case your TMX file locales does not match
what you use in Weblate.

Ilmari

This will be great. Are we going to use it?

Doubt that this will be implemented, as weblate is built around that

[libreoffice-l10n] Correction of string in pootle

2019-07-12 Thread kees538

Hi all

String eakFE in pootle says:

=SWITCH(MONTH(A3),1,"January",2,"February",3,"March","No
match") returns "January" when A3=1, February when A3=2 , etc...

But the function need a date in A3 instead of a number.
So in my opinion the string should be:

=SWITCH(MONTH(A3),1,"January",2,"February",3,"March","No
match") returns "January" when A3 contains a date in January,
"February" when A3 contains a date in February , etc...

Kind regards,
Kees

Which page?

https://www.libreoffice.org/

I can't reproduce this. As I wrote previously, the server is
configured

so https://nl.libreoffice.org/Security/login?BackURL=%2Fadmin%2Fpages
and https://www.libreoffice.org/admin/pages redirect to the very same
page
https://www.libreoffice.org/Security/login?BackURL=%2Fadmin%2Fpages

(resp. via 303 and 302 codes). Which in turn 302-redirects to
https://auth.documentfoundation.org/saml/singleSignOn?… with the very
same backurl
https://www.libreoffice.org/Security/login?BackURL=%2Fadmin%2Fpages.

So as far as SSO is concerned you're always coming from
https://www.libreoffice.org/Security/login?BackURL=%2Fadmin%2Fpages ,
and are always redirected back there after authentication. If that's
not where you land then I believe your browser is using a cached
redirect Location, not the ones sent from the server.

Are you able to reproduce this in another browser, or using a new fresh
profile?

I normaly use FireFox. So now I tried it in Microsoft Edge, but the
result is thesame.

Perhaps your browser is using a cached redirect rule for the first
one?

I always clean my cache when I'm done.

Most likely you're talking about cookie and page cache? Permanent
redirect rules, like http://libreoffice.org →
https://www.libreoffice.org/ ,

are not affected. As seen in the network console, the http:// URL is
not queried again. The internet has plenty of HOWTOs for clearing
permanent (301) redirect rules under your favorite browser.

I'm going to try.

Flushing your redirect cache should fix this. If you activate debug
mode (Menu » Web Developer » Network for Firefox; and Menu » More
tools

»
Developer tools » Network for Chrome/Chromium) you'll see the landing
page, and the kind of redirect rule (301, 302, 303) in use.

Hmmm... I'm not familiar with these actions.

…and I gave some steps to follow? Oo

Oké, thanks so far. If nothing helps I always have the workaroung Cor
provided me.

Thanks again, Kees

stripe. Problem solved?

Greetings, Kees

But now I am forwarded to a singel signon page at:
https://auth.documentfoundation.org/

After login I land on https://www.libreoffice.org/admin/pages

If I click the link to the admin pages above I land on the
suilverstripe page.

So I do have acces, but are not connected properly.

and then on the right side I can choose Dutch NL.

Can it be that you had a different mail address for Silverstripe than
for the single sign on account? In that case you should be able to add
it in the settings, and then Guilhem (CC)/* has to run a script to
make

sure that the address is known at the places needed.

Cheers,

Kees' last login to SilverStripe was today, so I guess the account is
properly configured :-) What's the problem exactly, Kees?

I did'nt login to silverstripe but to the singel signon and then were
transferred to https://www.libreoffice.org/.

The redirect to our Single Sign-On service is intentional, and has been
is place since the first week of September 2018. Using
https://www.libreoffice.org/admin/pages as a single entry point for all
subsites is more recent (January 2019); we did that to avoid setting up
multiple SAML SdP and/or using wildcard cookies. As Cor, you can
select

subsites on the left menu. And if you have access to a single subsite
it should even be pre-selected.

I do'nt see any menu where I can select any subsites.
As Cor suggested I had a different user for silverstripe.
It was kees...@gmail.com.
For the singel signon it is Kees538.

Cheers, Kees
