[libreoffice-l10n] Mojis - esp. for att of German team

2015-11-26 Thread Michael Bauer
Was going to write to the German team (I have German switched on as a
reference language) directly but it might be useful for others too; in
libo_ui/extras/source/autocorr/emoji.po

emoji.ulf MOYAI LngText.text
statue
has been translated as
Moyai Statue
which is wrong, they're the Easter Island statues i.e. Moai or Mo'ai but
not Moyai, that's the Japanese spelling.

Also
MAN_WITH_GUA_PI_MAO LngText.text
hat2
is translated as
Bartträger
which I'm sure is wrong. Gua Pi is a type of hat (a skullcap).

Are the English "names" the official English names for these? They seem
very unhelpful in many cases, most of them I end up googling the moji.

I would if it was in an obvious place in Pootle :D

That wasn't entirely my question. I was querying why the strings given
up for translation in pootle seem to be less specific/descriptive than
the actual names (judging by the Name column of the chart you linked).
It seems like we're given a random selection of strings from the
Annotation column and I was simply wondering as to the rationale of that
within LO.

For example, why is FACE_THROWING_A_KISS given as "kiss2" in en-US when
the "Name" is "face throwing a kiss"? What is more appropriate/useful
about calling it "kiss2" rather than the more descriptive "face throwing
a kiss"?
