[lace] Chantilly DVD ordered
Thanks again for the help with information on Hensel Productions. A couple of you gave me Kathy Hensel's email address, but Hensel Productions have their own. For anyone else who might be interested, I've ordered the DVD, which has a 0 (zero) code and can be played in any country, direct from them, paying by Paypal. They currently don't have a European distributor, but are looking for one. I also enquired about the Needle Lace and Carrickmacross DVDs as I'd had to buy the videos (when video tape was all that was available) in NTSC format from the US because Springetts weren't selling them. They said they weren't popular enough for them to stock any more - there were also a couple of other of their videos they weren't selling that were available in the US. John Hensel said that Springetts own the copyright on those, and, as he wasn't involved in any conversion of them to DVD, he doesn't know if they are zero region coded. One of the US suppliers is selling those titles, but I don't remember seeing them on Springett's stand at the Southern Counties Lacemaker Fair, although they seemed to have most of their other titles on DVD. What they did also have, though, was a DVD extract on making leaves taken from their Bedfordshire series of videos, which might interest some even if they don't want the rest of the Bedfordshire series. John Hensel seems to be a very nice and helpful person. [lace] Nativity Scene
Hello Pat, the EB on the left of the name of the lacemaker who did the nativity, stands for Encaje de Bolillos - a spanish forum of lacemakers, which is moderated by Antje Gonzalez, who is on arachne, so I suggest you get in touch with her. She speaks english, and I am sure she would help you get the information you want. Hope this helps. Re: [lace] RE: Nativity lace pattern
It's a piece by Milca Eremiasova (sorry I don't feel like tracking down all the accents for her name). She is a Czech lace artist. There is a photo of the piece in the biography of her lacemaking, on page 37, but no pricking. It is dated 1997. If anyone tracks down a pricking I, too, would love to have it. You might get help at: http://www.palickovani.cz/start.php But I gave up trying to get magazines and patterns from them a while back because of the language difficulties Sue - Original Message - From: J. [lace] macrame in Italy, Spain, France
I have been invited to join a friend to travel to Genoa in March, where she is in touch with someone who knows where macrame can be found, apparently in Genoa and perhaps Liguria. The idea is to hire a car and go to wherever we can find macrame and bobbin lace, preferably folk rather than fashion. I have checked Lori's Italian map and see that there are a lot of towns listed. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who can help us begin planning for this adventure. We will also be in France and possibly Spain. Unless it would be of interest to Arachne as a whole, it might be better to respond privately. [lace] lace care
The way I care for my lce will differ from piece to piece. If I make a bobbin lace or fine crochet bookmark for someone as a present, I certainly hope it will be used and put it in a protective cover. My bedspread in crochet lace that I made about 20+ years ago, gets used on my bed every day, and washed in the washing machine. The drying I do on some comtraption of chairs, stools and whatever outside. Around numerous light switsche I have bobbin lace edgings under a perspex cover, they have been there sfor many years. But, when I have made a piece for myself that I want to treasure, I will have it framed professionally, whereas any practice pieces go in my folder. RE: [lace] Lace Care
Thanks Jeri, you are certainly right on that one. People ask all the time and need responsible answers. I realize that you are not trying to be the lace police on this, just giving valuable information so that lace makers have the awareness of long term repercussions. Once informed, it is up to the individual to make their decisions with full knowledge and there will be circumstances that overrule as others have mentioned. Thanks very much, I am always keen to learn all the facts I can so I can pass it on and consider it for my own lace and the lace I care for in the Guilds here in Australia. [lace] Convention 2008 News (DP)
Hi Lacemakers, Shortly the IOLI Bulletin will be making its way in the mail, but as co-chair of the host group, Land of Lincoln Lacemakers, I wanted to tell you that we have discovered a boo-boo in the printed information about our convention in Rockford in August 2008. The hotel rate is quoted as $135/night for up to four occupants of a bedroom. We realised today that the wrong figure was sent to IOLI, and that in fact the cost of a room is $123/night for up to four occupants. Thank goodness it is in your favor but please get the word out to all your lacemaking friends. I will take the blame as I sent in the info for the registration form. I looked at the hotel contract for the info, but did not turn the page to see the reduced rate that we negotiated!! The hotel started our bargaining at $154/night so I think we did good for our registrants. Remember to quote Land of Lincoln when you book your room to get the $123 rate and this year you will be able to send your registration in on Valentines Day. Hopefully we will be able to inform the teachers and registrants a little earlier so they can make travel plans. Our website will be up and running soon so you might get a sneak preview before the magazine arrives in your mailbox. I will put that announcement on Arachne as soon as I hear from my webmistress. Then they brought me *that* tray just as I was coming out of the anesthetic. After I waved it away, I realized that there was a glass of juice on the tray and grabbed it; the orderly gave me the dish of jello too, and I did eat it. So the next day, when I hadn't eaten in days, they brought what I'd chosen the day before: one banana. Of late I've been making desserts with plain gelatin and fruit-juice concentrate: pour a can of frozen fruit juice into a pan, sprinkle with gelatin, wait ten minutes, heat until the gelatin dissolves. Seems to me that by using reconstituted fruit juice, and floating soft fruit such as pears canned in pear juice in it, you could make inoffensive snacks. Double up on the gelatin, and it can sit around at room temperature until she feels like taking a bite.
