Re: [lace] Mother and twins bobbin

2008-05-30 Thread Carol

Hi All,

I have some glass bobbins - well, quite a lot of glass bobbins, actually -
made by Malcolm Fowler, and his are just lovely. He definitely makes
mother and babe, and I am sure he makes twins as well, but he is always
willing to 'make to order', so I am sure he'd oblige if he was contacted.

[lace] Threads query - thanks

2008-05-30 Thread Gray, Alison J
Dear All

I can't believe it's a week since I asked you all for suggestions about
what thread I could use for my Beds lace. Apologies for not having
emailed earlier, I just haven't stopped. But now I'm here, thank you
all for your replies. I now know what thread I need to get.

And thank you too, Brenda, for the bookmarks idea. I shall have loads
of bobbins wound with a lot of thread when I cut off my latest attempt
at Beds, and now I know what I can do with them. I hate wasting thread!

Alison in Essex UK where it looks as if we might have a dry day at last!

[lace] Twilley's Gold Dust

2008-05-30 Thread Shirlee Hill
Is there a substitute for Twilley's Gold Dust that is easily accessible in the
US? It looks like this can be purchased from the UK but it would take a while
for it to get here. I have a box full of Kreinik Metallics - Balger Heavy
Braid, Balger Fine Braid, Balger Very Fine Braid, Ombre. Would any of these
be a substitute? The pattern I want to do calls for this Twilley's for 2 pair
of passives. The other 2 pair of passives the workers will be DMC 8 Cotton
Perle.

  Blessings,
  Shirlee

Re: [lace] Twilley's Gold Dust

2008-05-30 Thread Sue Babbs
Twilley's Gold Dust is available in my local embroidery shop here in IL. It
is softer than Kreinik metallics, and fairly thick. At a guess thicker than
DMC perle 8.

Which thickness gold dust does the pattern call for?

[lace] Twilley's Gold Dust and a pattern

2008-05-30 Thread Jane Partridge
In message [EMAIL PROTECTED],
bevw [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes
The Gold Dust should be available in the US,

Gold Dust was replaced several years ago by Lincotex (?spelling) Gold
Rush, which comes in two different thicknesses. If I remember correctly,
Gold Dust was then only available in Gold and Silver, rather than the
range of colours it used to be. Whether you can still get it is
something I don't know. Gold Rush has/d a wide range of colours.

Lately I've been working with Twilley's Goldfingering (more of a crochet
yarn, and on larger balls because of that, but they have done a craft
version of packs of three reels about the same size as the Gold Dust
reel was) because it comes in some lovely multicoloured shades that look
like beads on the pillow (it's amazing how many people think they are!).
It is just a slight tad thicker, but in a pattern for perle 8 based on a
3mm graph paper (ie 6mm between footside pins) it works fine. I used it
for the bracelets, Bev.

Also, Bramwell Craft Yarn (Tatting Design had some last time I looked
at their stand) is about the same thickness. It is another metallic
chainette yarn. Texere's Glitter (not the fine one) is another
alternative. They are based in Bradford, UK, and have a website.

It is amazing the glittery threads you find sold for cardmaking - if you
want fine ones, look at what they sell for Spirelli work!

Most of these patterns want the glitter thread about the same thickness,
or slightly thicker (not much) than the perle 8, rather than being a
proper gimp effect. The metallics stand out on their own.

[lace]Glittery thread

2008-05-30 Thread Daphne Martin
Hello again
I would like to add another crochet cotton to the list of Gold Rush
etc.
I have used a glittery crochet thread called Opera. It is slightly finer than
Gold Rush, but works a treat.
The five colours are red, blue, gold, silver and green.
All are lovely and bright colours that resemble jewels. Daphne
