[lace] lace+prisons

2009-03-05 Thread d2oneill
There is a display of lace made by female inmates in a former prison (Arizona
Territorial Prison in Yuma, now a museum run by the State Parks of Arizona).
The prison operated from 1876-1909.  If you Google "Arizona prisons+lace" you
can see at least one picture of the lace exhibit , with the caption"lace made
by inmates for personal use and for barter".  A friend who visited
the place   said there was an extensive exhibit of the lace, so apparently,
historically, there was no rule against prisoners using lacemaking tools.

Subject: [lace] new website

Hi Sue,
DH did a nice job of your website.  Lots of lovely lace, you have been busy.
I was pleased to see a number of my small designs amongst your lacemaking. So
gratifying.  I also liked the simple bookmark with the teapots and cups.
Where did you find that pattern?  I am sure Tamara would enjoy adding that one
to her "T' collection.

Tamara should have it in her stash, Janice - it is one of mine, that was
published in the Canadian Lacemaker Gazette (Vol 20 No 4 (Summer 2006 -
bookmarks and fridge magnets) and a matching insertion in Vol 21 No 2
(Winter 2006). For those who have the magazines, there is a vertical
line of pinholes missing from the right hand side of the bookmark on the
left, and on the left hand side of the bookmark on the right - they
should be the same 'template' as the two in the centre, which are
correct.

Possibly, if you (and Diane Williams, who also asked Sue about it)
contact Bev Walker, who is editor of the Gazette, she may be able to
tell you if the back issues are still available. (I've got a conflict
between my old design programme and our 'new' printer, which is most
frustrating, so it will probably be easier if you try that route of
obtaining a copy first.)

I have now made myself A Round Tuit.
It's tatted, with ring and with chain.
And now I can always point to it
If I say "around to it" again.

There's a Bucks fan I'm longing to tackle.
There's a Bedfordshire collar with cuff.
And now that I have A Round Tuit
I can happily say "time's enough".

For if one has got A Round Tuit
There are no more excuses to make.
All you do is just dig in and start it
No matter what time it might take!
