[lace] Christmas bauble

2010-01-08 Thread Alice Howell
Another possibility with clear glass baubles is to paint the inside the color
of your choice. Just remove the top, squirt in some paint and swirl it around
until the glass is coated. Let drain and dry. If acrylic paint is used, it
dries very fast.

. Don't know about UK but, in US, you can sometimes buy clear glass (not
coloured) baubles. You can pack the curly remnants, taken off the bobbins after
finishing a project, inside a bauble, for a messy but lacy (and somewhat
moderne) background to your lace.

Re: [lace] IOLI Bulletin

2010-01-08 Thread Janice Blair
I will now report that I have almost read all the Bulletin and have only to
decide which classes and tours I want this summer. I was not in such a hurry
to see the offerings as in past years as I was able to view the class choices
at the Portland Lace Society website over the last few months. Nice to see
that they are arranging an Arachne luncheon this year so we will all be able to
meet up again. Go here and choose the IOLI Convention, then Classes and you
will be able to see photos of some of the laces being offered. I also noticed
that the mailing date is February 1, so better make some decisions soon.

Cindy did a nice job again with the Bulletin. There are articles by other
Arachne including Liz Ligeti in Australia, Tamara Duvall, and I even spotted a
book review from Pene Piip. Lots of nice needlelace info for me.

I agree completely!!

Devon, in her wonderfully inquisitive/humerous/direct manner has given us a
fabulous romp through a lace mystery which kept me absorbed until the end. I'm
so impressed with Devon's determination to follow every lead to the next
resolution!! Like you, Janice, I'm inclined to study the Convention listings
first in the winter issues. I acknowledge that I did go through the convention
details (briefly), and then spent a very pleasant time giving Devon's article
all of my attention!! The pictures which grace the covers (back and front) of
the issue add considerably to the pleasure of the article. What magnificent
pieces of lace!!! And the fact that they're in New York just make me want to
book a trip to the city, and schedule a viewing (with Devon in tow, of
course!!!)

[lace] IOLI Bulletin Devon

2010-01-08 Thread jviking
Hi All, I also am thrilled with Devon's article, I also love her writing.
I must admit that the needle lace shawl measuring 108 by 52 has me
flabbergasted (gobsmacked). It is amazing!

[lace] Advent Calendar, Christmas baubles, etc.....

2010-01-08 Thread Whitham, Irene Steve
Thank you to Jean and David Leader and the Lace Guild for another great advent
calendar. It's the first thing I do when I get up in the mornings in
December, I really enjoy it as I am sure many others do as well.

The patterns on the advent calendar are pretty, the story behind the JK Bauble
is touching! The bedfordshire circle should cure my fear of leaves, it's so
pretty I have to make it!!! Thanks to Sue Turnbull and Jean Leader for these
patterns.

And thanks to Eve Morten for the latest pretty christmas bauble pattern,
another project on my to-do list!

Tamara's comment about putting thread remnants into a clear bauble reminded me
of some clear baubles for sale at the Cirque de Soliel souvenier stand,
remnemts from costumes put into a clear glass bauble with a price tag of
$35.00cdn..and that was just remnants, no pretty lace!

Happy New to all with lots of lacemaking,

I cannot get the Advent Calendar to open and show me the results. All I get

wrong? I also enjoy the Calendar and do not skip a day to look. Thank you

Live and learn :) I just learnt that what we, in the US of A, call
hot flashes,

in Australia, NZ and the UK it has always been Hot Flushes. Not sure
about Sth Africa

So... Paging Jeanette Fischer (for South Africa). And Malvary Cole (for
Canada). Do you girls flash, or flush?

I'll have to ask around - I was already past having hot fl_shes before I
came to Canada.

Malvary in Ottawa where it will be -18c tonight. The snow has finally been
cleared from my street and I can again get my car out. I do remember the
winter of 1962/63 in England when we got lots and lots of snow on Boxing Day
and the following few days, that lasted for weeks.
