[lace] March 24th

2010-03-27 Thread pene piip

Forgive me if this is a few days late, but didn't know until today.

The Analytical Engine weaves algebraic patterns,
just as the Jacquard loom weaves flowers and leaves.
- Ada Lovelace

All throughout the interwebs, March 24th was Ada Lovelace Day, named
after the brilliant eighteenth-century mathematician and dedicated to
celebrating women in science and technology. Bridget McGovern has an Ada
Lovelace Day primer

I was tempted to make a to infinity and beyond! joke, but I thought of
Ada rolling her eyes at the very idea and desisted.

RE: [lace] Webshot pop ups

2010-03-27 Thread Jo
I have the checkbox ticked. Problem is it is not a traditional pop-up.

This is not directly related to lace,

But it is related to a website heavily used by our list members. The ads
used to be acceptable but are currently so agressive it renders the site
almost useless for my taste. I'd rather keep my system safe.

[lace] IOLI convention

2010-03-27 Thread Elizabeth Ligeti
When do we hear what classes we have managed to get into for the Portland
IOLI convention? Do we get class requirements at the same time?

I have only been to one convention - as a Teacher, so it was all a bit
different!

I am so looking forward to the trip, and meeting as many of you as possible
while at Portland.

Then we go north to Seattle to visit our daughter and family _ Helen in
Seattle (formerly Helen in Denver!) So should be a Great trip. I am
hoping to meet some of the Lacemakers of Puget Sound too. - One can never
get too much lace - making chat, etc!!! :)

RE: [lace] Chaos Stitch

2010-03-27 Thread Patricia Dowden
...
The *chaos stitch* was the topic of interest to a number of the ladies and I
was asked
to bring some questions to the 'arachne table'.

First now, am I correct in my recall, was the stitch thus - bringing the
worker across the passives like this:

HS,WS,HS and then on the return 'trip' the worker going back with the
opposite movements,
WS,HS,WS through each passive pair?

Are there any pins placed? (Other than the outside edges.) Are there any
crosses on the worker between the stiches?
...

I did this in a binche piece and the color code was red - green - red -
green which translates to half stitch (CT / TC) alternating with whole
stitch (CTCT / TCTC). When more than 1 row is worked, the stitches are
opposite the row above. CTCT alternates with CT.
