Re: [lace] Lace story
Agnes, > Braiding is kind of lace, isn't it? is ok, but a thick bundle of hair has nothing to do with lace. Female human being braided their hairs since the beginning on but braided lace is something else in m< opinion. > Somewhere have the total works of the Grimm brothers in Germnan. Re: [lace] Lace story
Blonde lace was made in the 18th and 19th centuries, the folk tales go 'way back? I don't know if this helps Nathalie's story any - Blonde refers to the light colour of the thread, the natural silk, then again the Blonde lace patterns were also made in black thread :) On Mon, Sep 2, 2013 at 10:26 AM, Agnes Boddington > Rapunzel originates from Italy (old folk tale). Re: [lace] Lace story
In the German version of Rapunzel she doesn't make lace. She braided her hair that the witch with which she lived together, could climb up to her. This saw the son of the king being on that day near by. He wanted marry her and she agreed. The problem was how could she come with him. She told him to bring each day a bundle of silk that she could braid a ladder. In the version for children they escape one day and lived, if they don't died, happy till today. In the original version instead of Rapunzel the witch waited for him to tell him he will never get her. So he jumped out of the window and lost his eyes He walked sadly through the world till the desert and there he found Rapunzel with her two children again. And if the didn't .. I am sorry but no lace at all. Ilske - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. For help, write to arachne.modera...@gmail.com. RE: [lace] Lace story
Hi Rapunzel originates from Italy (old folk tale). As you said she braided her hair and so escaped from the tower. Braiding is kind of lace, isn't it? Somewhere have the total works of the Grimm brothers in Germnan. Used bits of it in my German language teaching in the past. Made a change from teaching grammar. Please forgive me - I had removed the previous post I was responding to but for some reason it showed up when I pressed send. Strange. -- Smile! Shell "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Re: [lace] Lace story
The story with the princess who escaped using her long hair was Rapunzel. I don't remember any version in which she made lace with her hair but she was said to have braided it. Perhaps in the language of the time it had the meaning of lace making. Rumpelstiltskin was the story of the young woman who was to spin gold from straw, well actually Rumpelstiltskin did the spinning for the princess. Both of these stories were made famous by the Grimm Bros, but they were stories past down from generations. It is interesting to realize how these stories were originally told with a moral or something to teach the listener. It sounds like a comparatively-recent literary work to me. If you have Usenet access, try rec.arts.sf.written. They play a game called "Yet Another Story Identification". r.a.sf.w. has lost its scorekeeper, but still enjoys an occasional round of YASID. To start a round, re-post the above message with the subject line "YASID: blonde princess escapes by making lace from hair". Then people compete to see who can first identify the story. "YASID" announces what sort of post it is; the rest of the line attracts the attention of people who might have a chance to win. If Google Groups is the only way you can post on Usenet, "YASID" also makes people fish the post out of the wastebasket. (GG does nothing to discourage spam, so many people filter out Google Groups posts.) But access through GG is intermittent at best, and posts sent from there are often mangled, so use another gate if you have one. If you like, I'm willing to post to r.a.sf.c., copy the responses to Chat, and copy Chat responses to the Usenet thread. -- Joy Beeson http://www.debeeson.net/joy http://www.debeeson.net/LakeCam/LakeCam.html west of Fort Wayne, Indiana, U.S.A. - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here.
