[lace] (lace) Tenerife

2016-08-07 Thread Elizabeth H Correa
I know the question was at 30 June but I was not with my desktop and no one
could helpme with Arachne address and I want to share my view about
Teneriffe.

T tried to reply by Devon email but it not appear, so.

I want to say that there are researchers that use for Teneriffe Lace a
special category. Embroidered lace (encaje bordado):.when we make the
pattern of lace with a needle in a basis or warp. We can use a net, like
filet, or a radial warp, like for for nanduti, soles de maracaibo, tenerife
lace, rosetas canarias ...

Carolina used the expression " lace craft". I was searching such kind of
expression. Since few years I have contact with Teneriffe Lace and I think
that it becomes just this : a needlelace craft. At the olds XIX and begin of
XX century it was not, but the time goes and forgetfullness happened and
Teneriffe Lace becomes a handcraft or a needlelace craft.

And is like a lace craft ( good, beautifull and so on ... or not) that
people works this technique textile nowadays. Teneriffe Lace I make is like
it was early XX century, therefore draws attention.

Thanks, Carolina also for the "rule" or comprehension that to be lace a
minimum of 50% of threads have to be drawn out.

2016-08-07 Thread Elizabeth H Correa
Liz

It was a wonderfull surprise have you at my table at Arachne lunch. It's sad
we have not the same language and my English - yet - is only the minimum.
But last year it was worst! And next year it will be better and if I found
you at my table we will talk more.
It was so nice meet people we know only the names. We feel we are all
friends since many years...
Thanks for the Sol Laces. It is a "new" very old way of teneriffe lace.
People forgot it.
Till 2017. Hugs

[lace] art lace Olympic size

2016-08-07 Thread Bev Walker
Hello everyone

There was an impressive performance of weaving with lit-up strands at the
Olympic Games Opening Ceremony. Dancers representing indigenous people each
held a bar to which a number of strands were attached (reminded me of the
way a backstrap loom is set up), leading above the crowd. They created 3
gigantic stylised conical dwellings. I found a picture in a slideshow
posted to YouTube. If interested, find it at the 1:03 mark
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWqDr2d5rSM

It fits the definition of lace where thread (strands) surrounds holes in a
pleasing manner.
"Lace is where you find it."
