Re: [lace] smelly lace book

2009-06-13 Thread Diane Zierold
I read a lot of books from the library -- and yes, some of them really
stink from tobacco. I spray the book with a room deodorizer and
disinfectant while fanning the pages. This may not be the best way to
treat a book, but these aren't heirlooms and it works.

Re: [lace] Big pillows

2009-05-07 Thread Diane Zierold
This engineering felt sounds very interesting. Do you use it over
another surface for the pins or is it thick enough as is. Can you
advise the pros/cons over the foam? And, where is it available?

Thanks ahead for all information

Sometimes I work on a very large piece of felt and sometimes on a
patchwork

around the
pillow easy and I don't have to stretch right across to the back

I also like the hint from Devon about leaving a clear area around the
pricking when using contact paper and also the one about rounding

Just so much valuable information comes off this list - it is never

Could I congratulate David on yet another excellent piece of lace.

[lace] Lace Products

2009-04-11 Thread Diane Zierold
Cleaning up my desk today, I cam upon a clipped page from This Week
magazine -- date unknown.
The Consumer section had a section of "The best...lace-embellished
style". The was very nice to see. The websites below still have the
products shown.

Crochet Bicycle Basket

I'm really partial to the black basket for my red bike -- but $70 US
might be a bit much.

The original website no longer had the boot - hopefully they sold out!

[lace] OIDFA Bulletin Jan-March

2009-04-02 Thread Diane Zierold
I wanted to say how much I have enjoyed the current issue of the OIDFA
Bulletin. The articles are all very interesting. There is much on
the upcoming congress in Japan, and interesting patterns.

On the cover (and interior) is the most wonderful lace panel
designed and made by Katsuko Sakagami. This is a stunning work of art
both of design and workmanship. I hope everyone will have a chance
to see this issue.

Re: [lace] Lace on licence plates

2009-03-19 Thread Diane Zierold
James spoke about Lori's "Lacefry" license plate. I wanted to use Ms
Lace as my first choice -- someone else had it, also. Maybe that was
Jeri. I settled for something better - "Ms Lace", which goes right
along with me new name. I got lucky.

Re: [lace] Magnifiers...

2008-05-25 Thread Diane Zierold

I meant to send this to the list yesterday, but just sent it to Shirlee.

Recently, I purchased adjustable magnifier glasses. They are extremely
light weight and really look like glasses (maybe pop eyed glasses) See this
site:

http://www.hammacher.com/publish/73560.asp?promo=QSearch

Pricey, but they work. If you need greater magnification, how about
wearing

a clip on magnifier with sturdy reading glasses. I haven't tried this, but
it might work and may be a less expensive solution.

Re: [lace] Spiral (self-threading) Needles "The Gift of Time"

2008-04-24 Thread Diane Zierold
I tried to find the blue plastic self threader on the Lee Valley website and
couldn't seem to locate it. I've seen this concept before and it works if
you locate the needle correctly. One of my sewing machines has this
attachment on it.

That said, Lee Valley is known for the quality of their products. They are
more expensive for the wookworking tools and fittings, but it is the very
top quality in it's price category.

If anyone can find the item number, please let me know.

Interesting concept. I wonder if the open bit of eye would tend to catch?
Another aid to needle-threading is a little device made in Italy, called
an

automatic needle threader. I haven't tried it - am tempted.
