Re: [lace] Sewing Out

2016-08-15 Thread Vivienne Walton
Hi, I have been using fray check for nearly 40 years but as Joepie says, do a
double knot on each pair. Dip a pin in the Fray check bottle and just touch the
middle of each knot individually. Leave strictly alone, about 30 minutes,
before touching it. My lace was going out to up to 31 shows ( Bigginslace) a
year and not one piece has discoloured. Vivienne

Please don't leave. I used to be on Arachne but it got not nice. I left. After
many years I have come back. It isn't as much fun but if interesting people
leave it will not get better and maybe fold. We need less drawn out fussing,
more David emails and a bit of humor. Arachne is very dry now. And no one had
to enter your survey. Please stay. Your survey is interesting even to,us in

Re: [lace] Supporting young lacemakers

2016-07-24 Thread Vivienne Walton
I totally agree. I have perhaps or at least one of the largest number of
Torchon lace patters that I sell at Biggins. After you have made your design
and the lace its self so you know it has no problems, you have an item to sell
for perpetuity. To make lace and to even charge 50p per hour the lace is either
nearly given away or too expensive to buy except by the very rich. It isn't an
art it is a beautiful craft as far as I am concerned. My long gone lace lace
teacher, Pauline Robinson used to say " lace is for giving with love, not for
selling" I have, over the years taught many, many people my craft. I used to
tell them that each one of them had to bring into our craft at least one other
new lacemaker. Vivienne
