Re: [lace] glass bobbins on ebay
Indeed Martin Tuffnell (Bill's son) still runs the business. He also has wonderful christmas ornaments as well and is well worth seeing. He is usually at Cranmore Park, Harrogate Lace Day and will be at Wolds Lace Day at Hessle East Yorkshire UK on the 14th November as well as usually attending the Christmas Fair at Lincoln, etc. etc. etc., Maureen East Yorkshire UK - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. Yes, indeed. Bill Tuffnell is still making glass bobbins among other things. He was a speaker at our lace day a few years back and had us almost crying with laughter. A real character as well as a very skilled craftsman. Patricia in Wales - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. The glass bobbins on ebay, attributed to Diane Miller, look to me like Bill Tuffnell (UK) bobbins. Bill Tuffnell used to make lovely glass bobbins (with beads to match). I have watched him make bead filled glass bobbins and have personally bought several pairs of clear and coloured, worry doll filled (as on ebay) and oil filled sparkly bobbins. I believe family still run the glass business and still make bobbins and beads. I have some similar bobbins made by Malcolm Fowler. I never saw any glass bobbins made by the Millers, Jean, as you say they made (make?) lovely painted bone bobbins. I suspect the seller had the box already and put it with the bobbins to make it more attractive, and look more like a genuine set. Christine Oxford, UK _ New Windows 7: Find the right PC for you. [lace] Glass Bobbins on ebay - Diane Miller?
Well, the bobbins don't appear to be a Set as I understand it. The tops and tails indicate - to me - that they were made by different makers, for a start. There does not seem to be any continuity between them - Pairs of bobbins, yes, but not a set. I don't know anything about the bobbin makers, but maybe the box refers to some other bobbins, and has just been used for this sale! I agree they are not by Diane Miller, and I don't think they are all by the same maker. There could some by Malcolm Fowler and also maybe Bob Martin. RE: [lace] Glass Bobbins on ebay - Diane Miller?
Hello Jean, It's just the box that has a Brian and Diane Miller 'label' in it. Diane painted bone bobbins and miniature paintings but Brian made a variety of items, pen holders, paperweights etc where he encapsulated leaves, flowers, even dandelion clocks in some sort of clear acrylic. They were sold in good quality presentation boxes and the Millers took great care about displaying the item. These glass bobbins are just in the box for safe keeping, I should think. I've got a couple of their boxes but what's in them now was made by me.
