[lace] Looking for a pattern...

2006-04-04 Thread Jill T
Hi All

My other half is a great fan of Racing cars - does anyone have a bobbin
lace patten (not too difficult) they can sell/lend me?

I recall seeing one on the back of an old Lace magazine (when the covers
were always blue) but I'm unable to find it again.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks,
Jill

Greeting Spiders!

Two very dear friends have announced that they are getting married in
September. I would like to make a garter for the bride with a dragon
motif.

I was playing with placing one of the snakes from Christine
Springett's "Snakes Galore" into a ground and adding legs, but it
looks too much like a salamander!

Does anyone have a dragon pattern?

Rather than trying to put dragons around the whole garter, couldn't you make
a very small dragon motif and stitch it on to the centre of the width of the
garter in the same way as some people sew a small ribbon rose with bow.

Hello,

There is a french pattern. You can see it at :

It is not free and difficult to find out of France.
But I remember you can find it in a old lace express, I think about 5
years old.

I am looking for a sailboat pattern or maybe a light house pattern. Nothing
too involved. Fairly simple. I am wanting to make something for my dad for
Father¹s day which is next month. So don¹t have too long of a time to
complete. He is into sailboats and nautical stuff. If you know of a book
or picture of a sailboat, let me know. If there isn't such a pattern, I may
have to design my own. ;)

Thanks,

Arachne is remarkable! Not only did I get several emails from helpful friends,
but one of them had actually made the lace and had won a prize with it! She
told me that it was published in La Dentelle, hence my notes in French, and
also in Lace Express.
Thanks to all who wrote me and all the rest who are on Arachne and always ready
to help all of us.

Now to get to work and make it at last. It has been sitting on my drawer since

Hello all,

I would like very much to buy the pattern for a lace I found somewhere on the

asked Atelier MB, but it wasn’t one of their patterns. I wanted to upload
the photo on Arachne Flickr but failed, so I need help with that. Then
hopefully someone can tell me where I can buy the pattern. Please contact me
privately.

I'm sorry I don't know the answer to your question Ann-Marie, but I can see why
you are attracted to the star! Very modern, effective use of half stitch that
looks almost 3D, like an upturned, fancy Bundt cake pan. My initial reaction
is that could it be Czech? I recently saw some work by Brona Bacilkova on
LACEIOLI/ning & some elements seemed similar. Some Arachnids know her. Best
wishes. Sincerely, Susan Hottle USA

Preference would be for Milanese, Torchon etc. (Definitely not Honiton).

Patterns for dragons always causes me some amusement. A friend makes free-
style lace in all colours. A man asked her if she would mind making a piece
of lace and mount it on a cushion that he could give his wife for her
birthday. She had just finished a beautiful dragon in gold and silver and
mounted this on a black piece of fabric and the man was very grateful.
However the next day he returned the dragon saying he has had second thoughts -
it might give the wrong message!!!

I think you *should* design your own. You did it with the gecko, you can do
it with a lighthouse shape or sailboat. Go for it!

Hi Mark

One of Eeva-Lisa Khortelahti's books has a pattern like that.

It's the first of her books that I took frpm the shelf!
Nyplatkaamme - Let's Make Bobbin Lace.
Three BL pics of boats with sails; torchon but with differences but her
patterns are so well drawn that all the instructions are there and you learn a
lot from working one of them.

Nothing too involved.

If you want it not too involved, a sailboat would be easy. A plait for the
mast, curve-edged triangle(s) in half stitch for the sail(s), cloth stitch for
the hull. You can have one or more stripes of color along the hull and if you
work back-to-front (aft-to-fore?) you can end the hull with a braid for the bow.

If you want to get fancier and are mounting it on fabric, you can add a few
swirls of blue around and under the hull.

The pattern is beautiful! I haven't seen this exact one, but it reminds me
a lot to Brigitte Bellon's patterns. She has a few books on Christmas
motifs. I have two or three and this star is not in them. So...it can be
that this design is another book I do not know or it is a mixture of
designs made by a particular lacemaker.

I don't have my lace books with me now, so cannot check for sure. Perhaps
someone else knows...

Best wishes from Antje, in sunny Spain.

If you go here...
http://celticdreamweave.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html
you can see my Louise Colgan Butterfly that I made from her Milanese DVD. The
DVD makes a wonderful teacher. Everything is very well explained step by step
on
the DVD. I think you should be able to get it from Holly Van Sciver or the
Lacemaker. I don't remember it being very expensive either. I have also made
the
Milanese Heart that is also a pattern of Louise. NOw if I could just get her
Milanese Angel pattern that would be so great. Does she have any new Lace
Milanese books out that I don't know about. I love Milanese for all of its
braids.
I am really excited...I will be going and staying in Ithaca, New York
during Columbus Weekend and I will be taking a wire bobbin lace jewelry class
being taught by Josee' Poupart. It should be fun and right up to something I
will enjoy doing. I have two dozen alumium bobbins my husband made for me at
his
job he doesn't have anymore for me to use with wire. I will try them out
finally
and see how they are. They should make beautiful happy tinkling music as I lace.

about. This is why I have been wating to get this tape on DVD. The tape is

shows on how to add pairs to the trail where it is adding of the pairs is not
noticiable. The bookmark has many tally leaves making squares using tallies in
the bookmark. I am wondering if anybody happens to know where the pattern for
the bookmark is found. I would like to make the bookmark for I feel it will
help me in doing the tallies. I might make a few of the bookmarks. The
bookmark is perfect for talling practice. You can send me the info off list to
