You might try craft shops and those little scrapbooking supply shops...
I've seen zip-loc bags of all sizes in those shops - although not the
gia-mongus ones.

 Hi everyone

ZipLoc bags (at least, here in the US) are now coming in special
garganto
  sizes,

I have been on the lookout for same ever since another kind arachne
pointed out that these are available - though not at the grocery store
where I was today. But I'll keep looking.

the clear plastic storage bags that new comforters or
sheet sets come in. I use these. They have zippers and come in many
sizes.

I store yarns and other 'big threads' in the several I have. And yes
they would be good for pillows too - I am now partial to the storage
bag from Ikea though, and I can hang it up!

However: it was while browsing for something at Ikea that I found
their zippered storage bag, called 'Dimpa' and there being a family
member heading to Vancouver to the nearest Ikea, I begged them to pick
up one of the bags for me. It cost about $7 - v. serviceable, looks
like clear tarp plastic. Will easily serve my two block pillows to
keep off the dust, if stored flat, or several cookie pillows stacked,
and the unit could be hung out of the way. I hope the zipper is
strong; time will tell.

Nobody has mentioned the clear plastic storage bags that new comforters or

My family saves them for me when they purchase new sets and they work
wonderful. I can usually get 2 pillows in them for storage and zip them up to
keep the floating dust and cat hair off them. I also use these to keep lace
projects clean if I need to store them for any reason before they are complete.
I have some that my 36 pillows fit in right on down to my 12 pillow.

I use them, but for yarn and fiber storage--my spinning/knitting habit is
much more advanced than my bobbinlace habit. Come to think of it, though,
I've got almost all of my bobbin lace supplies in one, as well. I really
like the idea of re-using things, to begin with, but I also really like the
zippers--they're very secure. Plus, there's the bonus of being able to see
through the clear plastic!
ZipLoc bags (at least, here in the US) are now coming in special garganto
sizes, specifically for storage of items larger than one's sandwich in one's
lunch. ;o) I've got some of them, but haven't put them to use yet (was
waiting until after the holiday season).

Your translation is probably right! A wreath is a ring of flowers, leaves,
ribbons built on a wire, wood or flower arranger's foam frame. They are used a
lot at Christmas to hang on doors, but also traditionally at funerals.

They can be a similar shape and size to a round lace pillow which is why a
box to keep one will fit the other. I haven't seen wreath boxes here in

RE: [lace] Pillow storage (wreath boxes)

2004-11-30 Thread Janet Anderson
Hello Dorte. A wreath box is simply a rigid storage container for an
artificial Christmas or seasonal wreath. I bought a beautiful artificial
wreath last Christmas. It is a grapevine wreath with pine cones and
artificial fruit wired onto it and it is a little fragile. I want to box it
to protect the finish on the fruit and to keep things from being knocked off
of it. Also I am in the middle of moving to a new city so that protection
is really needed for the move. You couldn't put it together with the
pillows is that this is a case of using something for a completely different
use than it was intended for.

Hope this helps.

Usually these boxes are for Christmas wreaths. The kind we hang on the front
door in America. They are usually made of artificial materials and come out of
their storage year after year. Well at least until they are too tatty and we
replace them with a new one. :-)
As they are often about the size of a cookie pillow they might make a good
storage place. The Ace Hardware flyer today had one for $7.99 and was 24 wide.

Janet,
what a neat idea! I have this nasty tendency to stack my
pillows as they are difficult to store, (especially nasty when
they have lace on them). I'm not sure if air-tight would
be good or bad, but it sure would be nice to be able to
stack them neatly, and keep them free of dust. Any US spiders

Hi April, Janet, and lace list

I have a flyer that shows these boxes - there is no brand name although
maybe Rubbermaid makes a similar item. I don't see any measurements but
they would seem to be fairly big (Janet, do you have one?) - they aren't
expensive, about $10 - and if air-tightness was a concern, holes could be
drilled in the lid.

Hello all. I do indeed have 2 of these (one actually has a wreath in it
grin) I measured the bottom to get an accurate area for you as the top
widens slightly. It is 17 x 17 or 43 cm x 43 cm and it is 6.5 deep or 17
cm, not counting the bowed lid. As for drilling a hole in the lid there is
a dimple dead centre in the lid where you could easily penetrate with a
sharp knife. Hope this helps.

I have not seen the ones at Canadian Tyre but there were ads in the newspaper
flyers this week for similar squarish (corners rounded) plastic storage boxes
at Target, K-Mart and probably Walmart for around $9. There was also one of
double height so you could maybe pack more than one pillow in that one.
