[lace] Subs

2008-08-10 Thread Diana Smith

The responses seem to confirm what I suspected - that I forgot to renew.
With the best of intentions I always mean to send the cheque straight away -
ho hum! You would think after 25ish years I'd know better ;o).

[lace] subs for Tanne 80?

2008-12-28 Thread Marianne Gallant
Hi,

I am looking for threads that can be substituted for the Tanne (Cotona) 80.
I don't have either of these, and am wondering if any that I have on hand
would work, since I want to start the project now, not in 2 or 3 weeks
Can anyone tell me what the Ne or Nm equivalent would be? I guess one of
these days I'll have to purchase a chart that tells me the substitutes.

Thanks,

Marianne

Hello Marianne and everyone

A very favourite thread reference is Threads for Lace, by Brenda
Paternoster.
(may I promote Brenda's book? I shall:

If you have a source of YLI threads, the YLI 70/2 heirloom sewing cotton is
an equivalent in measure to Tanne 80; or YLI 100/2, a tad finer. The
Egyptian Cotton 80 is close, too.

Hello Marianne

I am looking for threads that can be substituted for the Tanne
(Cotona) 80.
I don't have either of these, and am wondering if any that I have on
hand
would work, since I want to start the project now, not in 2 or 3
weeks

Egyptian Gassed 80/2 or YLI Heirloom Sewing 70/2.

Can anyone tell me what the Ne or Nm equivalent would be?
To convert from CC (English cotton count, also sometimes called NeC =
Number English cotton) to Nm (Number metric) multiply by 1.69 Thus
80/2 CC is 135 Nm

To convert to NeL (English Linen number) multiply the CC by 0.36. Thus
80 CC = 29 Nm

Oops sorry!!
I should have said
To convert to NeL (English Linen number) *DIVIDE* the CC by 0.36.
Thus 80 CC = 29 Nm 222
