Re: [lace] Sad News - Anny Noben-Slegers - Floribana
Thank you Janice Blair.  Yes, a great loss to our international lace community.  Condolences to her friends who are reading this.   I have corrected the spelling of Anny's given and surname in the Subject Line to the way it appears in her book, so a future search will find it in our archives.  If you have the book - Floribana - you may want to print this and insert in the book.  It is a resource for making 3-D lace flowers, published back in 1992, ISBN 90-73214-05-2.  Some have reported making the flowers for weddings.  They would also be appropriate for fascinator hats that ladies may wear next year for celebrations connected to the English royal wedding.  Jeri Ames in Maine USA Lace and Embroidery Resource Center  In a message dated 12/25/2017 9:42:06 PM Eastern Standard Time, jbl...@sbcglobal.net writes:  I had a Christmas greeting from Greet Rome-Verbeylen which included the following information - So sad that we have lost Any. Sister Judith .her lace, Withof, will live on. Thank you, Anneke, for sharing this sad news with the world. Sr Judith was an amazing person who led an incredible life as Anneke has chronicled in her biography. She was truly gifted as a teacher, lacemaker and designer. Her designs and techniques have provided inspiration to thousands of lacemakers. She had the ability to teach you to think lace. I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to meet her and to study with her. Anneke is right - she will live on through the legacy of her Withof lace. It is a gift she has left to all of us. RE: [lace] Sad news.
What sad, sad news! I never met Betty in person but a few years ago she had bought a stack of Piecework magazines with an article about lace. She offered the magazines to those of us who did not have access to the magazine and we sent gifts in lieu of the money she had spent on the magazines. For years afterwards I would get an e-mail from her to say she is still using the pincushion I sent. Those e-mails always made me feel so good so it was another example of her wonderful grace and charm. Please pass my condolences on to her family. If we are going to miss her, just imagine the loss to her family. RE: [lace] Sad news.
So sad to hear that Betty Ann is no longer with us. Liz's comments about the community of great lacemakers up there in the clouds reminds me of part of a poem about my bobbins: There are some from estates from those who've passed on And gone to that place in the sky Where threads never break, and pins never bend And with pillows in ample supply. As each bobbin goes by, with its burden of thread Does its work, rounds a pin, and is gone I'm reminded again of precious times past And friendships and memories live on. nlaffe...@ozemail.com.au There is getting to be quite a community of great lacemakers up there in the clouds, isn't there? What a lovely senitiment this is to all those teachers and lacemakers lost over the years. I haven't known any of them, but they have left a huge legacy. Re: [lace] sad news
I was shocked by the news of Gunvor's death. I'll miss her passionate love of lace and willingness to share her knowledge. I've been one of her students for several years and finished the last of her series of Torchon learning pieces in the Spring. This summer I attended her four day Tonder workshop and was looking forward to doing more of it during the next class sequence. Although Gunvor missed the opening class of our Fall session last week because of a medical procedure, she sent Jackie Gaines in her place with the familiar suitcase of supplies, the tea kettle and a bakery treat. The coffee was missing but since Gunvor usually drank most of it, we managed the break without it, fully expecting her to bring it to class tonight. Class tonight? Yes, though I doubt any of us will do much lace done this evening. This came in the email sent this morning to the members of the Metropolitan Chapter - IOL: As Gunvor would have wanted, classes will continue as scheduled.
