Re: [lace] blood on lace

2011-10-09 Thread Sue
I would definately have to go this way with the salt as I dont have any
natural saliva, Sjogrens Syndrome has killed off my saliva glands, so I am
very careful of covering fingers if I split the skin in anyway. I did get
some on a lacy undergarment recently but didn't find out until I went to put
it on 'clean' and dry a week or more later. Is there someway to get rid of
it now? It is commercial lace, not handmade.

A very old fashion remedy for this problem comes from my late great
Victorian era aunt Ina, soak item whether
it be of cotton or linen content in cold highly salted water. Has worked
wonders for as long as I can remember.

hydrogen peroxide will sometimes work, but if it has been through the washer
and dryer it might not.At any rate it is not that expensive to give it a try.

I have a tip, which others might know already, for removing blood from
lace when you have pricked your finger while working.

Take a piece of the same thread you are using for the lace, make a
small ball of it, about the size of a large pea. Put the ball in your
mouth and soak it with saliva. Now use that ball of wet thread to dab
the blood off the lace.

This should be done as soon as possible and the saliva must be from
the person whose blood it is on the lace. Something to do with a
person's enzymes I think, but am not sure. All I know is that it
works every time for me .I have never tried this method on
Synthetic threads but it could work as well on those as it does on
natural fibres.
This does work I've done it on the odd occasion that I've pricked my
finger when hand sewing on wedding dresses. good luck for the bride
too (said tongue in cheek) but using your own saliva the blood just
melts away :-) ... and I always put a small blue lace motif on the
lining of any wedding dress I make.

You might not have salt available at conventions or wherever
You allways have your own salive with you

A word of warning--thoroughly rinse your mouth before doing this. Unless you
brush after every meal and snack, you are likely to have food in your mouth
that could present a problem. If you've just eaten chocolate, for example,
you'll be replacing the blood stain with a chocolate stain.
