[lace-chat] Paypal warning

2004-11-05 Thread Jean Nathan
There's a new batch of very impressive-looking fraudulent Paypal emails
saying that there has been suspicious activity on your account, asking you
to go to the link given and enter your personal details. Don't. Forward them
to [EMAIL PROTECTED], then delete them completely from your computer.

Embroidery and needlepoint supplies are a lot cheaper in US & Canada than in
UK. So I found myself a Canadian supplier whom I could pay with cheques in
UK pounds. Several purchases went through without a hitch. Then one day
the regular bank clerk who dealt with these cheques was on holiday. My
supplier went in to her bank, and the substitute cashier was really worried,
because there was no rate on her list for Scottish pounds - my bank account
is with the Royal Bank of Scotland. The cashier flatly refused to accept
the cheque, and we nearly got to the point of me having to send a cheque
from an account with a different bank, until the Canadian supplier finally
managed to get someone at the bank's head office who knew that Scottish
pounds are UK pounds. It could have been worse - I used to have an account
with another of the UK's 4 largest high street banks: The Hong Kong and
Shanghai Banking Corporation!

[lace-chat] :) Fwd: Costume

2004-11-05 Thread Tamara P. Duvall
Apologies to the source; you're going to see it twice, but I don't
think it's bad enough to be excluded from the chat

From: L.F.
A couple was invited to a swanky Halloween Party. She got a terrible
headache and told her husband to go to the party alone. He, being a
devoted
husband, protested, but she argued and said she was going to take an
aspirin
and go to bed, and no need for his good time to be spoiled by not
going. So he took his costume and away he went.

The wife, after sleeping soundly for an hour, awakened without pain and
as
it was still early, she decided to go to the party. Her husband didn't
know
what her costume was. She thought she would have some fun by watching
her
husband to see how he would act when she wasn't with him. She joined the
party and soon spotted her husband cavorting around the dance floor,
dancing with every nice chick he could, and copping a little feel here
and
a little kiss there. His wife sidled up to him, and being a rather
seductive
babe herself, made him his partner high and dry, devoting his
time to the new stuff that had just arrived.

She had let him go as far as he wished, naturally, since he was her
husband. Finally he whispered a little proposition in her ear, and she
agreed, so off they went to one of the cars and had a little quickie. In
fact, two. Just before unmasking at midnight, she slipped away and went
home and put the costume away and got back into bed wondering what kind
of
explanation he would make for his behavior.

She was sitting up reading when he came in. She asked what kind of time
he
had. He said "Oh, the same old thing. You know I never have a good time
when you're not there."

Then she asked, "Did you dance much?"
He replied, "I'll tell you, I never danced one dance. When I got there,
I
met Pete, Bill, and Paul and some other guys, so we went into the den to
play poker all evening. But you're not going to believe what happened to
the guy to whom I loaned my costume"

[lace-chat] What's in a name (joke)

2004-11-05 Thread Helene Gannac
I haven't seen this one on chat, and it's rare to get nice ones from my
work, so I want to pass it on!

The medal winning Olympic runner, Picabo (pronounced Peek-A-Boo), is not
just an athlete, she is a nurse.

She currently works in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of large South
African metropolitan hospital. However, she is not permitted to answer
the telephone while she is at work.

It simply caused too much confusion when she would answer the phone and
say: "Picabo, ICU"

A good clean story is hard to find these days.

Helene, the froggy from Melbourne, who's working all Saturday this week :-(

Subject: Re: [lace-chat] Re: International Money Transfer Question
Well some of you Canadians, you must have a great bank. I still have my
Royal Bank Visa account and transfer monies in Canadian currency from my
Australian account. Not only do I get charged here for the transfer, I also
get a $10 charge from Royal Bank. Perhaps I will just send them a cheque
from my bank account, I could save $40.

[lace-chat] David do you trifle?

2004-11-05 Thread Allan+Yvonne Farrell
Hello all,

David I was wondering if you have a good trifle recipe. You always seem to
have great recipes which I hoard in my files but I haven't seen one for
trifle yet.

Thanks, Yvonne.
