[lace-chat] Nick Girdler

2006-03-22 Thread Jean Nathan

This message is for people in the Radio Solent area.

For those who are fans of Nick Girdler, as you know he was axed from Radio
Solent a couple of weeks ago. What's really insulting is that Solent
management think that people believe the official line that he left of his
own accord. Can't abide those who think you're stupid and will believe
anything they say.

A Yahoo group has been set up with non-restricted membership.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nickgirdlerhasleftthebuilding/

I was a real fan because he was definitely un-PC, called a spade a spade,
didn't suffer fools, was funny and entertaining, was knowledgeable in all
sorts of areas, deflated the pompous, as well as never charging for personal
appearances for the selected causes he supported (unlike most so-called
celebs), said he was well-looked after by society and therefore gave 21 days
of his time for free back to it, was a school governor and still is
magistrate. Really brightened the mornings with his totally interactive show
for those who wanted to be part of it.

He wasn't everyone's cup of tea, and something went wrong so he's no longer
with the BBC.

If you live in he area covered by Solent, please pass the details of the
group on to anyone who might be interested.

Another option is using the 'insert' option - I don't know about Mac - I
put in the above letters using the 'insert' option in my e-mail program.
I know that they are available in Word also.

It's tatting with some outer rows of mignonette tatting. It looks like
the round Spiderweb doily from the Tatters Treasure Chest.

[lace-chat] S.P. Thanks

2006-03-22 Thread Maxine Diffey
To my Secret Pal in the U.K.,
I received you packet yesterday after I got home from work, and it was
s nice to see it. It was a real day for gifts as it was my DH's
birthday too.

The lace tools are lovely. I had seen the bobbin holders in action, but
had never bought any, so to receive one from you was a real treat. :-)
The paper craft items are really appreciated. I have used the 3D foam
pads before and really like them, I have never seen a house punch like
the one you sent. The thread is beautiful - we cannot get that type of
thread over here, so I will really treasure it, and will make sure it is
a very special item that I make with it. The cover cloth is so pretty
and I look forward to using it.
We moved house over the weekend, and of the items I made sure I knew
where were, my lace gear was top of the list!! I will send my new
address via Brenda, so you will have it in plenty of time for next
month. We have not gone far, basically just across town to a place with
smaller grounds.

Thank you once more for your most generous parcel

[lace-chat] stamp raffle

2006-03-22 Thread Melinda Weasenforth
Thank you for the lovely stamp that arrived today and the letter that came
with it was quite informative.

DH and I were in an accident yesterday as the man who hit us T-boned us. We
didn't go to the hospital, but I am feeling it today. Wow, I am sore all
over, seat belts don't help when your hit from the side. Oh well, such is
life.

Thank you again, Lynn

[lace-chat] another computer question

2006-03-22 Thread Sharon Whiteley
While we are sort of on computer subjects...I have had my new computer for
just over two months. I'm running XP. Until last week I'd get a banner pop
up asking me if I wanted to disconnect when I was finished with the
internet/e-mail? I no longer have that feature :( It's very easy to forget
to disconnect now and is most annoying. As far as I know, nobody changed
any settings. What happened, and how do I get my old setting back? where
can I go to find answers to little questions like this? I find Microsoft's
web-site a nightmare to surf, besides, how do you word a question like that
in "computerese"? Sharon on dull, dreary Vancouver Island

[lace-chat] :) Fwd: 3 Thoughts and 10 Commandments

2006-03-22 Thread Tamara P Duvall
Of the "3 thoughts" only #2 is new to me... That is, it's new to me *as
a joke*; it certainly has been the truth in US for the past 4 yrs :)

And I adore the 10 Commandments joke, which came to me "advertised" as
"an equal opportunity offender" :) The only regret I have about that
one is that, being a "dyed in the wool" atheist, I don't know what the
other 6 Commandments are, and *who else* could be offended in that
single swipe... Surely, there's room for more racist statements???

When NASA first started sending up astronauts, they quickly discovered
that ball-point pens would not work in zero gravity.
To combat this problem, NASA scientists spent a decade and $12 billion
developing a pen that writes in zero gravity, upside-down, on almost
any surface including glass and at temperatures ranging from below
freezing to over 300 degrees C.

The Russians used a pencil.
Your taxes are due again - enjoy paying them.

They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq.
Why don't we just give them ours?
It was written by a lot of really smart guys,
And it's worked for over 200 years.
And, we're not using it anymore.

The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments in a Courthouse
is that you cannot post

"Thou Shalt Not Steal",
Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery"
and
"Thou Shalt Not Lie"
in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians.  It creates a
hostile work environment.

From: D.K.
Subject: 10 Commandments

God went to the Arabs and said,
"I have Commandments for you that will make your lives better."
The Arabs asked, "What are Commandments?"
And the Lord said, "They are rules for living."
"Can you give us an example?"
"Thou shall not kill."
"Not kill? We're not interested."

So He went to the Blacks and said, "I have Commandments."
The Blacks wanted an example, and the Lord said,
"Honor thy Father and Mother."
"Father? We don't know who our fathers are. We're not interested."

Then He went to the Mexicans and said, "I have Commandments."
The Mexicans also wanted an example, and the Lord said "Thou shall not
steal."

"Not steal? We're not interested."

Then He went to the French and said, "I have Commandments."
The French too wanted an example and the Lord said, "Thou shall not
commit adultery."

"Not commit adultery? We're not interested."

Finally, He went to the Jews and said, "I have Commandments."
"Commandments?" They said, "How much are they?"
"They're free."
"We'll take 10."

If you go to http://www.positiveatheism.org/crt/
whichcom.htm you will find a complete list of the Ten
Commandments. Not only does it list the 10 commandments but lists
the Protestant, the Catholic, and the Hebrew versions. Should be all
the information you regret not having.

[lace-chat] Philosophies for life

2006-03-22 Thread David in Ballarat
ONE. Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully.

TWO. Marry a man/woman you love to talk to. As you get older, their
conversational skills will be as important as any other.

THREE. Don't believe all you hear, spend all you have or sleep all you want.

FOUR. When you say, "I love you," mean it.

FIVE. When you say, "I'm sorry," look the person in the eye.

SIX. Be engaged at least six months before you get married.

SEVEN. Believe in love at first sight.

EIGHT. Never laugh at anyone's dreams. People who don't have dreams don't
have much.

NINE. Love deeply and passionately. You might get hurt but it's the only way
to live life completely.

TEN.. In disagreements, fight fairly. No name calling.

ELEVEN. Don't judge people by their relatives.

TWELVE. Talk slowly but think quickly.

THIRTEEN. When someone asks you a question you don't want to answer, smile
and ask, "Why do you want to know?"

FOURTEEN. Remember that great love and great achievements involve great
risk.!

FIFTEEN. Say "bless you" when you hear someone sneeze.

SIXTEEN. When you lose, don't lose the lesson

SEVENTEEN. Remember the three R's: Respect for self; Respect for others; and
responsibility for all your actions.

EIGHTEEN. Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.

NINETEEN. When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to
correct it.

TWENTY. Smile when picking up the phone. The caller will hear it in your
voice.

TWENTY-ONE. Spend some time alone.

That is what *every* "power in place" -- democratic or pretending to be
- is counting on, according to my commie-Poland and US experience :)
With "viele gute grunde" to support such belief in your (and everyone
else's) dim-wittedness and willingness to be be deceived... Or, if
you're not deceived, in your willingness to sputter at home and do
nothing in public...

In Belarus, the president has just "won" his 3rd term (recently
approved by the parliament) by 83% majority, which's a bigger margin
than even Stalin dared to claim :)

[lace-chat] :) Fwd: Naming the kids

2006-03-22 Thread Tamara P Duvall
It's a cute "fugue" on the old joke of 3 couples at the Pearly Gates
and St Peter chastizing the men for their choice of wives whose names
represented their obsessions (Sherry, Penny and Fanny)

From: M.A.

A psychiatrist was conducting a group therapy session with 4 young
mothers and their small children.

"You all have obsessions, " he observed. To the first mother, he
said,"You are obsessed with eating. You've even named your daughter
Candy."

He turned to the second mom. "Your obsession is money. Again, it
manifests itself in your child's name, Penny."

He turned to the third mom. "Your obsession is alcohol. Again, it
manifests itself in your child's name, Brandy."

At this point, the fourth mother got up, took her little boy by the
hand and whispered, "Come on, Dick, let's go home, this man is crazy."
