[lace-chat] Rock throwing

It amazes me how many stupid ways these kids dream up to cause injury or
death to others.

The problem is that they don't think as far as death or injury. I bet you
didn't think of what could happen when you pointed a hose at cars, did you
David.

A couple of 11 year-olds at the school where I was a teacher went on a spree
at another school smashing windows. When asked why they did it, it was
because it was fun. As far as they were concerned they were just windows -
they didn't think that there could be someone behind the windows who could
be injured; that the broken glass would cause damage in the room inside;
that it would cost thousands of pounds to replace the windows without the
cost of anything damaged inside the room; that someone had to pay for the
windows to be replaced - they were just windows and fun to smash.

On a nearby estate the bus company has stopped running buses after 6 pm
because feral youths are throwing rocks at the buses. Fortunately the decent
adults on the estate shopped those concerned because they wanted their buses
back. I think anyone, whatever the age, who throws missiles at vehicles,
when caught, should be taken to the morgue and shown the body of someone
injured in a car crash. I don't care how much trauma is causes them - it
might just stop them doing it again.

[lace-chat] Idiom question for the UK

2012-01-01 Thread scotlace
The phrase 'redding up' has been mentioned in an email from an American friend
and I am trying hard to remember in which part of the UK this is common
parlance. Is it possibly northern England somewhere?

I think the first thing I would do is consult Samsung customer service. They
may have a standard protocol for dealing with that. You may need to go to
your computer to get the information you need. Once you're up and running
again, you should probably get a virus protection program. Initially, it was
believed that this wasn't needed on Android devices, but I didn't trust that,
and installed Bitdefender on my Motorola Xoom.

I've thought about that over the years for all hoons. But I think
that these days they've seen so many gory bodies on TV that it may
not have the desired effect. What I would recommend is to make them
work in Rehab with the injured for weeks and weeks.

As an aside, I remember well the first time I ever saw a close up of
a bullet going into a forehead in a movie. That was Soldier Blue in
1971 at a cinema in Nottinghill Gate, London. I actually fainted in my seat!!!
