Re: [lace-chat] new year

This year I am going to pamper myself. I can't be more specific because my
needs may change from day to day. I may need to take a break and see a
movie, or read a good book. Just whatever I feel I need at the moment.

Peace,

[lace-chat] Re: [lace] Continuing problems with AOL and others!

2005-06-19 Thread Anne Toney
I ran into problems sending to AOL addresses in another group. The tech I
talked with said it was because I had a business card attachment. Just a
few days earlier I had no problems with sending to AOL. It coincided with
AOL's decision to start attaching ads, etc., to emails. It could be that
the unsubscribe tag is causing the bounces. AOL members are only allowed to
send to a maximum of 10 people if even 1 of the addresses is to a Yahoo
address. This went into effect at the same time.

Re: [lace-chat] Charles and Camilla

2005-02-10 Thread Anne Toney
Actually, I think the fact that Lady Di is dead clears it in the eyes of the
church. I know that's why the Catholic Church allowed my aunt to get
married in the church. Her first husband died and they didn't count the
husbands after him. History shows us that most of the monarch would be hard
put to be "Defenders of the Faith" considering their indiscretions. If it's
so terrible for the US to have a gay bishop, then it's also terrible that he
and Camilla have been lovers for so long. Personally I think Charles should
be skipped entirely and Will designated the heir.

The East Texas (and central) magnolias are like Betty Ann's. The next-door

Smells lemony when in bloom. Our cook always cautioned us about sleeping in

never questioned anything Anna said, so I haven't tested it out to see.

 Dear Secret Pal,

Your package arrived safely yesterday. Thank you so much for all the
goodies. The blown eggs arrived intact and are lovely. Now I definitely
have to get one of those tree-like hangers to display them. I've been
wanting one for years, so it looks like I'll get one for Easter.

Alas, my DD confiscated the Kinder eggs. We discovered them when we visited
Vancouver several years ago and she is a fanatic about them. I spent some
time trying to translate the Dead Sea salts package before I noticed it was
in English too. LOL

The tiny appliques are adorable. I always welcome thread. A lacer can
never have too much. I have never seen a bag like it was in.

Again, many, many thanks. You are a superb Secret Pal.

Love,

I just bought a packet of limescale remover wipes for my bathroom and
kitchen sinks - if the water in Poole was any harder, it wouldn't come out
of the taps. I found they don't actually work, so it's back to the liquid
stuff. The warning on the packet of wipes is "Not to be used for personal
hygiene."

[lace-chat] Secret Pal Thanks

2004-01-26 Thread Anne Toney
Merci beaucoups, moi amie.

That's about all the French I know and it's probably wrong. LOL

I'm sorry to be so late in thanking you. I've had dental problems, a
sprained ankle, and a crashed computer. Thankfully, everything is so much
better now.

I did receive the December packet. I sent a thank you about the time my
computer decided to take a holiday, so I guess it didn't make it through.
The stocking immediately went on the tree and the divider pin on the pillow.
I used the bubbly in my bath Christmas Eve. The keychain is also in use.
Is the eagle design on the Le Puy a coat of arms? My oldest son, his wife,
and 2 daughters (12 and 7) were here for 2 days right after Christmas. They
were properly awed when I showed them all the things you sent. I even
shared the calissons with them. My daughter-in-law is so proud that now she
s has eaten something from France.

The sachet has been placed in my lingerie drawer. The zipper bag is
delightful; the candies delicious. The coiffes on the postcard are really
something. They look like they would be hard to wear. The Santa will go on
my tree next year. It looked skimpy this year because I could only find one
box of my ornaments. Wouldn't you know it--we found the missing box when we
were storing the Christmas stuff this month. I love looking at the lace on
both the calendars and hope I will someday to make some that beautiful. I
m a firm believer in aromatherapy and the wands are great!

You've have certainly been good to me. Thank you so much.

[lace-chat] Secret Pal Thanks

2003-11-14 Thread Anne Toney
 My dear Secret Pal,

France, eh? Land of perfume and lace, cheese, bread, and wine!

Thank you so much for the goodies. The octopus is so cute. I'll have to
watch that my grandchildren take it home with them when they come to visit.
I'm looking forward to trying the prunes in my tea. The tiny bobbin is
already on a chain waiting for me to wear it. The scented wands smell so
good! I introduced my DD (23 yrs old) to aromatherapy and she in turn has
me hooked on lip gloss. She is begging me for the witch to add to her
keychain collection. Maybe if she's really, really nice to me...

I tried reading the words on the bag to her and she says my pronunciation of
French is atrocious. Hah! It's as good as my German lol. She's fluent in
Russian and has taken French also. My 2 sons deal with the German and I'm
left with the Spanish. I guess we are a multi-lingual family. We also
speak English and American.

My 2 little dogs send lots of kisses to you and your cat. By the way, you
can keep the wallabees over there. We have some in our zoo, but I don't
think any have escaped.

Again, thanks so much for such a delightful package. Now I've got to get
back to work on Christmas ornaments.

Re: [lace-chat] Books - Fanny Hill

2003-07-24 Thread Anne Toney
What on earth are you thinking, Jean? Put a "classic" in a plain wrapper!
It's research, don't you know. LOL

While studying 'Moll Flander's in my English Lit class in college, the
professor mentioned that there was another book of this genre whose name he
couldn't even mention, lest he be fired. This was in 1969 and he and I were
the only ones in the class that knew which book. Compared to TV and books
today, I found nothing explicit in 'Fanny Hill.'

Same course we read an abridged version of Clarissa by Richardson. We were
told that there was a "racy" passage in it. If so, I never noticed it. Of
course, I fell asleep about every 2 pages, so I could have missed it.

Back in the 1950s there were a couple of court cases concerning two books -
'Lady Chatterley's Lover' and 'Fanny Hill' (the latter very explicitly
described the life of a courtesan) - to try and get them banned because some

considered them both to be obscene. ... I never
managed to get hold of a copy of Fanny Hill as it was considered far more
daring and copies sold as soon as they hit the shops. ...

Then today, nearly 50 years later, while browsing in one of the remainders
shops, there was a paperback copy of 'Fanny Hill'. It's now classed as an
'erotic classic'. So I just had to buy it to find out if the fuss in the
1950s was warranted.

Haven't started reading it yet, but I feel that, if I'm going to read it in
public, I might just have to put a plain brown wrapper on it.:-)
