[lace-chat] Irish Laces

2005-08-23 Thread Jane Dickinson
Dear Spiders

Have just been checking what is on BBC Radio 4 tonight to keep me company
while I do the ironing and see that at 23.30 (GMT) there is the following;

Journalist Nell McCafferty uncovers tales of hardship, endurance, skill and
artistry as she charts the fortunes of Irish lace and the enterprising women
who have developed and nourished the craft since the 1800s.

Those of you who have computers with the necessary software can listen after
the event if that is more convenient if you visit the BBC website and click
on the appropriate links.

Happy listening!

[lace-chat] Weekend Residential Workshops

2005-05-30 Thread Jane Dickinson
Dear Arachnes

To all of those that have notified me that my website was down over the past
year, at last please note the new website address;

www.greatescapes-weekends.com <http://www.greatescapes-weekends.com/>

After a year of computer problems, I 'think' we are up and running now and
I'm hoping to have more time again for Arachne! The website is still
officially 'under construction' but the links all work and the information
is all there.

To any of you within reach of my venues you are welcome to drop in and see
what is going on on any of my weekends. The tutors usually put on very good
displays of their work. It is great to see the pieces from the books in
real life. There is always the 'work in progress' to look at too!

I hope to see some of you somewhere.

Best wishes.

[lace-chat] Printer Ink Cartridges Looking For a Home

2004-01-24 Thread Jane Dickinson
Dear Spiders

I have recently had to buy a new printer and, surprise, surprise, my
previous ink cartridges will be no use. If anybody out there can use them,
they are welcome to them. The cartridges are:

Canon BCI-10 Black
Canon BCI-11 Black
Canon BC!-11 Colour

and there are six or so in total.

I am happy to offer them free to a good home and will even pay the postage.
I just can't bear to put them in the bin! Please let me know if you can
use them and I will send them to the first person to reply.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes.

[lace-chat] Secret Pal Thanks

2003-08-10 Thread Jane Dickinson
Dear Secret Pal

Huge, huge thanks for the August AND September parcels which have arrived
recently. You must be going travelling, I hope you have a lovely time
whatever it is you are up to. I have to admit to opening both parcels so
sorry about that I couldn't resist! It will serve me right when I have no
parcel next month.

I am already using the spectacles case for my sunglasses. The earrings are
exactly 'my thing' and I always choose silver rather than 'gold' so you
have done very well! I guess the green stone inlay is malachite? They
are very pretty and will go just as well with winter things when the summer
has passed. At the moment I can't imagine ever being cold again, it is SO
hot here today. The slim little address book is very useful and fits
perfectly in one of the credit card slots in my bag. You have sent more of
the little perfumed sachets too, this time lavender. My linen cupboard is
going to be the best around! The little angel fish keyring is very cute.
I have done some beading recently but nothing like that. I shall enjoy
using it.

The bookmarks will make me smile, the 'quotes' are very apt. The brooch
with the bird/sunflower (daisy?) is very lovely and has been worn on my
Tshirt already. I really love it. The selection of cards will be enjoyed
by me and eventually the lucky friends I choose to send them to.

Thankyou once again SP, you are a star! I hope your Secret Pal is being as
good to you.

With best wishes.

Dear Secret Pal

What a lovely surprise. Your July parcel has arrived already!

I absolutely love the scarf. It is so bright and cheerful. I am going
away for a few days shortly and shall take it with me to wear then. It
will be perfect. Thankyou again for being such a lovely friend.

Best wishes from a very sunny Sussex!

Jane Dickinson.

[lace-chat] SP Thanks

2003-06-19 Thread Jane Dickinson
Dear SP in California

Huge thanks for the parcel which arrived last Saturday and for the second
one which arrived today. I have hardly been here inbetween and before I
could thank you for the first one the second one arrived! You should not
have sent two, one was ample and you have truly spoiled me! I hope your
life is back on track now.

The notelets will be really useful and I love the box they are in. That
will be treasured for a long time after the notelets are used. I shall put
the 'pins' on the corners of my cover cloth to weight it and they will look
very pretty. The divider will brighten my pillow too. Now to the lace!
You are a very special friend indeed to send me a piece of your lace. The
bookmark is very, very good indeed if you are a beginner like you say. I
have looked and looked but can't find the mistakes! The thread is very
pretty too and I am looking forward to using it.

Today's parcel was very special too. The Peace Angel is on the corner of
my desk to watch over me. Just what I need at the moment! She is very
elegant. The Pot Pourri bags smell gorgeous and are going straight to my
linen cupboard. I love the deep red colour too. The mints have already
been sampled and are very unusual I don't think they will last long. They
are such a cute shape too. I will keep the tin for pins or other lacey
bits. The fridge magnets are very pretty and I shall enjoy seeing them from
day to day.

Thankyou once again SP. You have truly spoiled me and I look forward to
finding out more about you.

Best wishes.
