I had a pair like that! They had two inch platform with six inch heels, and
I wore them on my first date with my husband, who is a foot taller than I
am. I wore them until they crumbled, years ago. I have in my closet right
now a pair of red cfm pumps with stiletto heels. I only bought them about 3
years ago, but I'd been waiting 30 years to find the right pair that fit me.
When I did, they were mine!

Bad chocolate

I think no one has discovered this before now because no one ever thought to

Yes, but people don't want to fly to the middle of nowhere, they want to go

[lace-chat] The disaster

2004-12-29 Thread Pam and David
On the morning of the 27th, we got the following email from a close friend:

Our son, Curry, called to tell us they are all okay!
Dec. 14th, our son left Marysville with his wife, Desi, to spend Christmas
with her family in Sri Lanka--the first Christmas the whole family would be
together in 23 years. The day after Christmas they took her family (about 9
total people) from Colombo to spend the day playing and swimming at a hotel on
a the South beach. The staff came and told everyone to get off the beach, that
here may be big waves from an earthquake. Curry didn't trust the information
and hurried his in-laws to the 2nd floor of the hotel, carrying his
mother-in-law, since she can't walk up stairs with her bad leg, (he didn't
even remember doing that). They looked and saw a huge wall of mud come at the
hotel. They looked down and saw people hanging onto things and being swept
away. They saw the water recede---way farther than the tide recedes. The
staff told everyone to stay where they were. Curry said "no, we need to get
out of here now, more will come". He then ushered his family downstairs,
wading knee deep to their rented van still on the other side of the hotel. He
told as many people as he could not to stay, but to head East fast. Some did.
They drove the only road, which was following the coastline. Nothing scares
Curry, but he said he had never been more scared in his life. They got to
their homes in Colombo and saw on the news the hotel got hit again and that
road was washed out. When he called me he said they were all just sitting
staring at each other in shock. He said this was the magnitude of 9/1/1, and
their whole family survived.

Re: [lace-chat] FYI knitting on planes

2005-04-20 Thread Pam and David Dotson
I was surprised to discover that at least from the US the Clover thread
cutters are forbidden. Apparently there is a blade inside that can be
accessed (darn if I know how) and is considered dangerous. But scissors
with round ends are ok.
That's really odd to hear because four weeks ago my daughter went to the UK
and back to the USA with her cross stitching, and her Clover cutter around
her neck, as she always wears it.

I think the IPA uses an upside-down lower-case "e" for this sound.

This is called a "schwa"wow, the phonics I was taught in first grade has
paid off, other than reading well!
