[lace-chat] Funny knitting article
Hi All, I just read this on a Lion Brand e-mail. I thought it was clever and could be adapted to writing about lace making. Actually if journalists have so much trouble writing about knitting (which I think of as a very normal activity) it's no wonder lace making is such a mystery. http://blog.lionbrand.com/2016/01/06/franklin-habits-friendly-three-point-message-to-journalists-who-seek-to-write-about-knitting-and-crochet/?utm_source=bronto_medium=email_term=::+Read+the+rest+of+Frankiln's+message+to+journalists+::_content=Your+6+Favorite+Patterns+Featuring+Popular+Made-in-America+Yarns!_campaign=Weekly+Stitch+ My buddy Sumac has a bumper sticker that says "Spinning because knitting isn't weird enough". I guess maybe I'm wrong about knitting being a normal activity . Re: [lace-chat] Australian friends - TV question
Hi, Another fan of Miss Fisher here. Series 3 DVD is supposed to come out in the US on October 27, it's available for pre-order right now. I can hardly wait! We've also been watching Murdoch Mysteries set in Toronto, Canada circa 1900. I love all the Modern Women in 1900 and then in 1920's Australia! [lace-chat] Measuring molasses
Hi All, I read this cooking tip and it works great! I sprayed my measuring cup with Pam (aerosol cooking oil) and filled up with the molasses I needed. It all slid right out of the cup! Really fast when I had just filled it but it even worked when I let it sit for a while. I'm not sure how molasses translates around the world. It's very dark, sticky brown liquid. I think maybe what's left when they boil off some of the sugar? It tastes bad raw but makes spice cookies taste very good! Re: [lace-chat] daffodils are blooming!
I'm jealous of both of you. We still have a foot of snow on the crocuses, the daffodils are a l-o-n-g way away. However, the very early crocuses across the street are uncovered. With a little sun I think they'll bloom! It does my heart good. Jane in Vermont, USA jvik...@sover.net Treacle is close to molasses, but I'm not sure if it's the same! Re: [lace-chat] English
I'm glad this was brought up. I've been wondering what happened to dove into the bushes and the glass vessel shone in the light. They seem to have disappeared in what I read in the US and are replaced with dived and shined. Now I understand better what is going on! Jane in Vermont, USA where we are having a lovely summer day! Re: [lace-chat] Richard III's remains identified!!
Hi David and All, Josephine Tey seems to blame Henry VII. The book also mentions books by Buck in the seventeenth century, Horace Walpole in the 18th and Markham in the 19th century that claim Richard III didn't kill the Little Princes! Guess that's why I thought it was real! Very interesting! Jane in Vermont, USA Jane, Hi All, I see no one mentioned Daughter of Time by Josephine Tey. It's a mystery story about Richard III and it says he did not kill the little princes. I'll have to get it out, it's been a while since I read it. Do you recall who she did blame? Penman was very convincing with her Duke of Buckingham theory. But I have read another - possibly by Philippa Gregory which blamed someone else. I for one really like Richard III - well at least he seems to have actually been in love with his wife and his marriage was NOT an arrange one. [lace-chat] Books, music, movies, cooking?
Hi All, I thought we could try to keep up the volume of mail even though many people are busy. DH and I had a party with his family yesterday and we plan a quiet day tomorrow which is what we like. I am reading Murder Spins a Tale a Flock and Fiber mystery by Veryl Ann Grace. It's good! It's a new series (I think) with sheep, yarn, knitting and spinning. Next I will be reading Threadbare by Monica Ferris - Yippee!! It just came out in paperback. I also got the latest hardback by her but my MIL is reading it first. I do love Monica Ferris!! For new lace-chatters she writes fabric mysteries too - some feature lace! I've been baking Christmas cookies - sugar cookies with a dash of nutmeg, my Grandmother's recipe. And a pumpkin pie for DH, that's his favorite. Now, I'm going to make myself a root beer float and watch a movie with DH. Probably one I requested he get me for Christmas! Re: [lace-chat] Has anyone bought a good dishwasher lately
Hi All, I haven't gotten to read all the mail about dishwashers but I asked DH's opinion last night. He's a Master Plumber (licensed, not me exaggerating G). He said he has heard Bosch is the best these days. I see a few other people have mentioned Bosch. They make many of his best tools. And he said there are only a few companies that make dishwashsers and they're sold under different names. He would expect to get 20 years out of one. We just replaced our refridgerator and found it was in the house when we bought the house. Only lasted 36 years! Needless to say the electric bill has gone down dramatically. Re: [lace-chat] Dishwashers soap
Devon wrote: I would like a dishwasher that I don't have to manually clean out the filter on because of both the ick factor and the bad back factor (Bosch seems to require this.). However, many of the better, or at least more expensive ones do not have an automatic disposer in them, thus requiring manual clean-out. This is counter intuitive, but there it is. We were having water leak out of our dishwasher (a moveable one) and I started using Cascade Complete. I think it may take care of the gunk that can build up. I may be wrong though G I still use it and no water leakibng and no gunk to clean out. Re: [lace-chat] What is this thing?
Hi All, I have some saucers I use as ashtrays. THey're from France and I believe they were used as coasters in a restaurant. Everytime someone ordered a drink it came on a coaster with a price on it.
