[lace-chat] SLP June Thanks
Dear SLP in England, I apologize for not sending out a thanks earlier. I've been out of state for family business and not able to check mail or email. What a pleasant package to find waiting for me! First of all, the bobbins are fabulous! I've quickly put them on a pillow, as I'm off again to handle more of the family affairs. Thank goodness for lace! I've gotten all of the bobbins on this project, a nice Beds edging, and keep thinking of you while I get a break from business. The sweet bear is here at home by my computer. I think he'll like it up on his little shelf. I brought home a tiny brown tabby manx kitten that DH will get to kitten-sit for me while I'm away this next month. The little bear will be safe, though. I haven't had an indoor cat for many years and remembered to go through and kitten proof as well as I could. The owl bookmark is also going back on the road with me. My MIL gave me several books to keep me busy when I'm not making lace. She and my FIL have been staying here in their big RV during the summer. She was quite interested in trying the recipes from the little cook book. I'll be home for only three days, so not much experimental cooking for me. I will certainly try them out next month when I'm back! I pick up my DH and youngest son from a long backpacking trip, then off again. I really have enjoyed the packages from you! I can hardly wait to find out who you are. I expect the next package will arrive while I'm away, but will try to get DH to forward it to me. Thank you so much for being my SLP! [lace-chat] SLP Thank You
Dear Secret Lace Pal, Wow! You've sent a fabulous package! First, I didn't know your son had made the great bobbins you've been sending on. The newest two are wonderful! I've just pulled them out to take out to my shed to spangle them. I went to the bead shop yesterday to buy some seed beads to finish a piece of embroidery, and went a little crazy picking out a few for future naked bobbins. (I also got a new one when I ordered some from Holly, a great Stuart Johnson bone bobbin). The bobbin stacker book is wonderful. My sweet GrandDad passed away this morning, so it will be helpful to carry the pillow with me to whichever town they decided to have his service. I haven't used one before, so I'm excited to try it. What a clever idea! The needlecase is great, and now added to my car survival kit. I always keep a little stitching in the box between the seats. I made a new grab to go kit for needlelace that I put the little wooden one you sent into. Speaking of needlelace...You are quite talented! I love the little fairies. I've copied the pattern onto my paper to get ready to work. My niece will be moving out here soon, and they will be an excellent surprise for her new room. I've taken her to a pottery shop where she paint her item and they fire it for her. It was a great girlie day (we saw a little girl movie and had lunch and played at the park) and she made the prettiest fairy. I've put the little bag in my rosaline lace bag to hold my tools on my pillow. Now my scissors won't slide off! They'll be happy to have their own handy home. The bath salts were wonderful, as well. It was a hectic week and when I opened the package, out they came right away. The diploma has cracked us all up. As we try to help our oldest decide on which colleges to apply to, and I try decide whether or not to get my bigger degree now or later, it was quite appropriate! The little blue tit is so pretty. We don't have many bright birds in our neighborhood. What they lack in color, they make up for in character, though. Our family loves to watch the silly things they do here. We've had a mockingbird run several of our fun guys off lately. I think my FIL is ready to scare it off. He's kept up very late by the bird's shennanigans. I haven't seen the little Honiton teapot pattern before. I will enjoy making it once I clean off one side or the other of my pillow. On one side, I've designed a little junco that I keep re-doing the rail on. The other has another filling sampler so I could try some new things. I may just finish the junco, though. It was supposed to be for the IOLI entry last year. Guess I'm a little late! Thank you so much for all of the little presents and the wonderful letters that you send. I hope to get to know you better! In Lace, Laura Lace! in New Mexico, USA...hot, dry, windy, gusty, and dust bowl-like right now. - Love cheap thrills? [lace-chat] SLP Thanks
Dear UK SLP, I received a package before Easter and it was wonderful! My new fairy friend sits by the computer, looking for a place to hang around. The compact brush is a great addition to the stitching bag...it's pretty windy around here. I'm looking forward to using the soap paper during pampering time this evening. The guys are all camping again, so it's a lace and me day. I have to admit, I'm hoarding the sweets for one of those days. The pin is on my pillow and the butterfly charm will be attached to a divider pin that needs a little brightening up. I've also seen a method to attach things to needlecases, so it may go on the wooden one (much needed) that you also sent. I love the little pouch. Did you stitch it? I think I'll use it for my little threads that I save for stitching. I hope you've gotten over your cold. It's not too much fun working in the garden when you don't feel well. I still haven't decided to put one out this year. The drought is so horrible and the gophers are getting pretty needy that it just may not work out. I may at least put a few things into large planters out back. I was successful with my bulbs this year. I snuck them into a new place so the gophers and moles avoided them. The hyacinths bloomed in time for Easter, and the tulips are now coming up. The bunnies nibbled the leaves a little, but for the most part they're whole. Well, off to lace. Hope your lacemaking is going well! You'll have to tell me what you're working on! Your SLP Laura Sandison USA - Yahoo! Mail goes everywhere you do. Get it on your phone. [lace-chat] RE: Greek Embroidery
I apologize for posting to both lists, but couldn't remember which list this request was from. I have found my copy of Greek Island Embroidery by Pauline Johnstone (London, 1961). It has some color plates, but mostly bw images of the embroideries. The only laces are a couple of pulled thread whitework pieces from Cyprus and some levkara work. If the person that requested this needs more info (colors, motifs, etc.), you are welcomed to contact me off list. HTH Laura Sandison Lace! in NM, USA - New Yahoo! Messenger with Voice. [lace-chat] SLP Thank You
Dear Secret Lace Pal in England, First I must thank you for another item that escaped my last note. DS2 seems to have borrowed the little light for a church camp in the mountains (BR-r-r-r-r-r). They had a series of concerts and he said it was wonderful! Now, my thanks for the latest great package. More bobbins! They're wonderful and I just found some spangles from a while back that never made it onto anything, so they'll be perfect. I don't have any with a similar head, so they'll be fun to try out. The little note cards are so cute! I adore the little bears. The album is also very appropriate. I'll put some little samples into it to carry around for my I'm a lacemaker and this is what I do show and tell! The iddy-biddy book is hilarious! The timing was perfect, as last week there seemed to be a little too much testosterone in the house. Many of the quotes I'd heard, but there were many new ones, as well. They were all very appropriate for having sons. My favorite color is all of them! Doesn't help, does it? Right now I'm working on a leaf/tree project, so greens are all over the house. I've always loved various shades of blue, though. I appreciate your thoughtfulness! [lace-chat] Secret Pal Thank You
Dear Secret Pal, I wasn't expecting a package today, what a surprise! I love the sachet and bag, perfect for pins and tools! The pin box looks lovely with my new roller pillow with dark blue velvet. I was just about to order new book plates, and my honeysuckle is already trying to bloom, so those are fun and timely! The bobbin will be a welcomed addition to a Bedfordshire piece I'm working on that seems too be sucking bobbins off of other projects. You were very thoughtful with this package. I appreciate the treasures, and just past my birthday! Thank you so much, I look forward to learning more about you, as well. Your Pal, Laura Sandison USA - Yahoo! Autos. Looking for a sweet ride?
