[lace-chat] postcards for my daughter's birthday
Dear Arachneans, it has been a long time, that I posted in lace-chat. Today I would like to ask you a special favour: One of my daughters has her 30th birthday on August, 9th. She collects postcards from all over the world and puts them up on her walls and her sisters and I think, she will love to get one from where you live, you are on holiday or just a Happy Birthday card. If you would like to send a card, it would be great, if you would write "Happy Birthday" in your own language on it. Please send your card to Dorothee De Wille c/o Susanne De Wille Postfach 910110 12413 Berlin Thank you for reading this post and perhaps sending a card. [lace-chat] Back from Iceland holidays
Dear friends, long long ago, there was a German girl writing on this group. Well, I am still around but rather busy and therefore quiet. I do read many of your mail and enjoy them. Now I just want to let you know, that last night we came back from a 2-weeks holiday in Iceland, where our eldest daughter is living since Dec. 2010.(The same who was in Windsor, GB and in Bruxelles, Belgium before - and that is where my holidays were in 2009 and 2010). Iceland is a very interesting country and the people are very friendly. DH and DS were very keen on "adventures" so we got some off-road trips in a rented jeep including river crossings through rivers and bumpy roads. We had a great time and also enjoyed one week with DD Tabea. We even saw a probably Scandinavian lace pillow in a culture museum with a piece of unfinished Braid lace and a few tangled bobbins. I will pop up again hopefully soon and give you a link to some photos DH will put up. Tomorrow I have another bobbin lace class for children for 2 afternoons. So now I better get going packing the stuff in suitcases to take along tomorrow after work. [lace-chat] A few days in Brussles
Hello, from next Tuesday until Saturday I will be in Brussles, Belgium, visiting DD, taking another DD and DS along. Last week I taught 6 girls and 2 boys bobbin lacemaking on 3 afternoons in our local holiday program. The children once again were very eager to learn bobbin lacemaking and I enjoyed it, too. [lace-chat] exams
Hello ladies, just wanted to let you know, that today I got a letter, saying that I passed my exams. That means I have a chance to be back in the world of lacemaking and other things I love to do including answering mails and take a more acive part in the list activities. The only minor thing that slows me down a bit is that I stumbled and fell on the road after work yesterday. I have a few bruises and knocked my hands and knees, but nothing really damaged. I am off work for 1 week. So I will enjoy the weekend. It is mother's day in Germany on Sunday. [lace-chat] Good news about DD Dorothee
Hello, I just wanted to share my relieve with you. Yesterday DD Dorothee was to her 1st annual checkup after her brain surgery last Dec. The doctors say, her brain is FINE. I am so glad. There are some functional problems due to the surgery such Aas concentration and short term memory. ( don't know, how you call that propperly). But the doctor says that it's normal and that it take longer time for the brain to find new ways to build up new connections within the brain. Her eyesight has narrowed down a bit more, too. Maybe this nerve will recover, too, eventually. But all in all we are looking forward to a much happier Christmas Season than the last one. Praise the Lord! Re: [lace-chat] Photos of mola I bought at the arts & crafts fair
Hello Avital, your mola is very pretty. It looks very well made. It is funny, when I first read your message in Lace-chat I thought by myself, I wonder what mola is in lace - I had only known of it in patchwork and quilting. Then I remembered that you do patchwork, too. *smile* Anyway, I think your mola is well worth the price. [lace-chat] Dorothee and Martina's activities
Hi , Dorothee's shunt left the right place and she is back in hospital to have it sorted. The doctor was terribly sorry that the shunt slipped out of place and pressure built up again. It is said to be a minor surgery tomorrow and Dorothee is supposed to be discharged after 2 days. I finally and inspite of all I started sewing patchwork blocks again: I sorted through my sewing room at the weekend and rediscovered some leftover triangle patches from the Repro-RR. I looked through different Repro-books and found the size of the triangles were perfect for some of the Civil War Diary Quilt blocks, which are nice and big and easy to sew. So I managed to make a start with 2 blocks. It is not a great lot, but I am back on the sewing machine. I am also doing a course on sewing a jacket and blouse to go with my traditional German pinefore dress and apron. And I am getting some cross-stitching finished, which I started last summer on the Azores. I finished the Kitchen by Permin and now I am stitching a sailing ship which I want to frame with a hortensia fabric for a pillow for DH for our wedding aniversary in June or his birthday in August. I am also still working on the bobbin lace unicorn for Dorothee and hope to get that off the pillow soon. [lace-chat] Windsor/London
Hello, DD Tabea phoned, that she is invited for an interview in Windsor/GB asap. Probably she will take the coach from Nuremburg to London in the next days. Now she needs to find a place/places where she could stay overnight, either private /B&B/ youth hostel and definitly as cheap as possible within the reach of public transport to Windsor. She will be there prob. next week for a few days, but she is willing to take anything she can get, even just for 1 night and find something else for a 2nd or 3rd night. Btw. she has finished her Masters degrees in German and English Linguistics in January and has applied for jobs. This morning the company in Windsor phoned her to come over for a personal interview. Tabea was of great help, when Dorothee was in hospital in Erlangen for the 1st brain surgery. So I would value greatly any assistance for her. Dorothee is out of hospital since 1 week and we went back to have the stitches taken out yesterday. So far everything goes very smoothly for her and she is improving very well. Thank you for listening and any hints are welcome. Re: [lace-chat] Update on Dorothee's health + unicon
Dear Arachneans, thank you for your mails, your kind words, prayers and well-wishes. I am feeling much better and somewhat relaxed now. This morning I felt somehow overwhelmed. I am still busy working on the unicorn I mentioned a few weeks ago. Some of you gave me valuable hints how to get on with it. It helped me to sort it out. Eventually I will show you a picture when the lace is finished and mounted onto the painted background, Dorothee is supposed to do for it. [lace-chat] Update on Dorothee's health
Hello, now I am back with news about Dorothee. 3 weeks ago she has been back for a check-up after her benigh brain tumor surgery in Dec. The MRT showed, that there is no sign of a new tumor and the area, where it was is in good state. But the liquor is held back in one part of the brain, because the membrane is clotted. So Dorothee will have the same symptoms as before. In order to sort that out she is sheduled for another surgery on Thursday, 8th May. They will put in what they call a shunt. This is a tube, which brings the liquor from her brain under the skin to her chest/tummy. Dorothee hoped to avoid getting that, but there is no real other possiblity. The doctor said, that the surgery itself is not really complicated, but there is a risk of getting an infection. The nice lady doctor, who went to the brain center in Erlangen for the first surgery, will do the new one in our local hospital, where she is working now. We managed to sort out the school problem: the doctor wrote a paper for her saying, that they should not consider her performings for a report. The head of the school accepted that. That means that Dorothee can finish this year at school and has to repeat this class. This helps a lot on the bureaucracy. Thank you for reading and all your support. [lace-chat] Dorothee is fine
Hello dear Arachneans, I am very happy to let you know, that Dorothee is doing very well healthwise. Recently we had a talk to the doctor who handled her case mainly and was present at the surgery. She told us, that the surgery went very very well and that they had expected it to be even more difficult and longer. The tumor was one good natured (benigh) (I have looked up the words and I am not sure which is correct.) The doctor said that they were able to remove it completely and as far as humans can judge it should not grow again. It is definitly nothing that builds metastases or infiltrates other tissue. Dorothee has to go back for regular check-ups and this very helpful doctor offered that she could do these checkups in the local hospital. This is very kind and helpful. Dorothee's eyesight is still somewhat affected - she can't see the full pictures on each eye, but her brain apparently can handle that. And she also has some problems with her concentration. That is due to the pressure that was in her brain for quite some time. At school she has to reach certain marks by May, 9th, to be allowed to remain in her school and she is somewhat uncertain, weather or not she wants to stay there or what else to do. As a whole, we are very grateful and happy how things went and we are sure, that the rest will work out eventually. Thank you for all your support and care! [lace-chat] Dorothee is home again
Hello, I just wanted to let you know, that Dorothee was discharged from hospital today. She is doing quite well now and needs another 2-3 weeks to recover from the surgery and the stay in hospital. We are very glad about that! The only kind of worry is, that the doctors are not quite sure, that the tumor will not start growing again. She has to go back for a checkup in 3 months. Her concentration and memory are not fully back - but we trust that time will help to sort this out. [lace-chat] Improvement - Dorothee
Hi, just wanted to let you know, that Dorothee was able to leave the intensive care unit today and is now in an ordinary ward. She is doing very well and is allowed to get up and sit at a table in her hospital room for her meals. Thank you so much for all your caring support for us. Btw. I am feeling find now and our family live is more or less back to normal - we are still on holidays this week, which is a bonus. I have to type with a bandage on one of my fingers, because I was silly enough to cut it yesterday with a small bread knife. But that is just a bit uncomfortable, only an explanation that I have to wait until I will write more mails and do some other things - like washing dishes. ;-)) Hugs, Martina in Germany To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace-chat [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[lace-chat] Surgery - Dorothee
Dear Friends, just a few words about Dorothee's progress. Physically she is doing well, but emotionally she has a bit of a rough time the last 2 days. Of course it is still very close to the surgery. She is supposed to start eating again but doesn't want to... Dorothee is 19 yrs old and is the 5th of our 7 children. I want to thank each one of you for your prayers, good thoughts and very helpful mails. It does make such a huge difference to me to feel your love and concern. I also did read many of the "normal" list mails and did enjoy reading them! We continue to hope and pray that everything will continue in this good way and that the final test results will be good for her - and us. Dear Friends, before reading the emails I want to let you know, that the 12 hours surgery went well and Dorothee is in a stable condition. The doctor said they managed to take the tumor out and that it was very complicated. We were allowed to see our daughter on the intensive care ward. I will try the coffee, as soon I am back home from my 2-weeks training course. *bg* The bobbin is very special and will fit very nicely into my collection, and I also like the fine pricker very much! Thank you for all your wonderful gift which I do love and all you thoughts behind them makes each one of them very special for me. The postcards are quite interesting, too and also the pattern. Dear Secret Pal, thank you for all the gifts in the pretty Blue Box. That box looks very nice and was filled with well appreciated goodies. My son Mario was very eager to explore everything. He made me sharing one of the Milky Way eggs with him. Very tasty! He also things I could use the colourful post-it notes for writing notes to his elder sister, that he is allowed to watch TV. *gg* We both like the silver horseshoe and boots. Mario thought they are earrings. The blackwork Chickadee caught my eye right away. I love it and will soon start stitching it. I have not seen that kind of instruction for using just an outline for blackwork. I love that idea! The little book is very encouraging to me. - Lots of wonderful thoughts! The magnet frame perfect to hold our first grandbaby's picture, due in Sept.06 Mario wanted to try the sneaker socks, but I insisted, they are mine. *ggg* - It's his birthday in May, so I will wrap them up for him then. Thank you for everything and especially for your letter. You surely sound busy and I am looking foreward to your photos of the lace demonstations and your laces. Don't worry about the little delay. I had not even noticed that I was waiting for a SPP. Your parcel arrived already on Thursday. It was very quick, just 1 week. I am sorry that I did not write immediately. Live is a bit rough at present. My mother died at the end of March, aged 82. She didn't recover from a stroke 6 mths ago. So we feel it was best for her. But we still have to get used to the fact, that she is no longer here. Now I had to see a doctor about some problems with or near my thyroid. She sent me to see a specialist - which will be Mid-May.
