Dear spiders,
The behind-the-scenes admin duties are starting to consume more of my
time than I would like, so I am sending out this list of gentle
reminders.
1. If you are a digest subscriber, please change the subject heading
to something meaningful when you reply to a message. If you leave the
digest number as the subject, it messes up people's filters and it is
useless for finding the message later in the archives.
2. If you are having trouble unsubscribing, please check the following:
a. You are sending in PLAIN TEXT.
b. You are sending the unsubscribe command from the same account
that you want unsubscribed (you'd be amazed by how many people change
their accounts, then try to unsub the old address using the new
account; it just doesn't work that way).
c. You are unsubscribing from lace if you get individual messages
and from lace-digest if you get the digest. Lace and Lace-Digest work
like two separate lists.
3. If you have tried everything and still can't get yourself
unsubscribed, you can write to me at [EMAIL PROTECTED], but
please, please, please tell me which list you are subscribed to. There
are four lists (lace, lace-digest, lace-chat, lace-chat-digest) and it
does take a fair amount of time for me to download four subscription
lists, check for your email (and any number of close aliases --
sometimes people don't know what their actual email address is and use
something close because it works), and then unsubscribe it from that
list. An aside: sometimes I ask people whether they want to be
unsubscribed from lace or lace-digest and I get the reply, Yes,
please. Duh. sound of forehead banging on keyboard
4. Archives are at http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED] and
http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED] Someone told me
that she couldn't find a message there and thought that it might have
disappeared. Well, mail-archive is free and assuming the principle of
You get what you pay for works there, that's what there is. Since
I'm not the list owner I don't have the authority to set up
list-archive software on the server or to tinker with the
majordomo-generated software.
5. Another thought on 'disappearing messages' in the archive. Some of
you send your postings to [EMAIL PROTECTED] The message gets posted
because majordomo recognizes both addresses ([EMAIL PROTECTED] is
actually an alias for the longer address). However, anything addressed
to that email will not appear in the on-line archives because
mail-archive.com has no way of knowing that it's the same list. Same
applies if digest subscribers hit 'reply all' and send to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] Everyone will see your message but
mail-archive.com won't save it.
Thanks for bearing with me. We return to our regularly scheduled
program of threads
Best wishes,
Avital
