[lace-chat] Quiet List
Hi Alice, You mentioned in a previous email that you did woodworking and were going to set up one of your buildings for that purpose. What type of wood work do you do?  Do you turn your own bobbins? You seem to be handling your recent bereavement so well.  It is good to keep busy.  I seem to be always knitting these days.  My group knit and crochet for charity and I just finished my 7th lap blanket for our local hospice. We are also busy making small items for a craft fair to raise money to buy more yarn rather than having to patch together things using donated yarn.  Lap blankets take about 3 skeins and we don't always get that many donated in the same color, so we have to make multi colored ones which sometimes look a little odd. :-)  On the lace front, I am working on a Binche humming bird designed by Kumiko Nakazaki but that requires time to be able to sit and follow the diagram on my voodoo board.  It is easy to lose my place even though I am marking the board as I go. [lace-chat] Quiet list, memory quilts, lace in Israel?
I've had no chance yet to unpack my lace after our most recent move back to the States. For a variety of reasons it's taken longer than usual to settle in this time. Nothing bad, just a lot going on along with a small house with limited space for setting up a pillow. I head to Israel in a couple of weeks for a month and am considering packing up a travel pillow and starting on the smallest (in width) yardage for the on going christening gown I'm making. Will have to see if the suitcase allows. Karen asked about a memory quilt. My daughters and I also make "memory" quilts but use t-shirts. Our daughters each attended several high schools with all our moving. In one school she might play lacrosse and participate in a musical program, in another it would be volleyball and drama - whatever was available and interesting. Each of these clubs traveled to events and usually there was a t-shirt provided for each team member. This continued into university. With boxes of t-shirts which were really a diary of their school years, we cut out the important part, the logos or sayings and created quilts. My husband and I have been fortunate to travel to many interesting places to scuba dive. The dive shops always have a fun selection of t-shirts usually depicting local dive sites. We've collected them with the idea that I'll make us matching quilts so when we're no longer able to dive we can sit under our quilts and reminisce about the places we've been. I'm looking forward to adding a t-shirt or two to the collection from scuba in the Red Sea. I'll try this question again as I received no response earlier - are there any "lace" things I should see while in Israel? Understanding that my movements might be somewhat restricted currently. I will be back and forth several times a year so I don't have to rush to see anything right away but if there's something to be seen, I'd like to check it out. [lace-chat] Quiet List
Hi Everybody: I have my apartment up for sale, so all my lacemaking equipment is packed away. I'm in withdrawal! If anybody out there wants to spend a quiet minute or so thinking "wouldn't it be nice if somebody bought Adele's apartment really soon" I would appreciate it. Might make a difference, and certainly can't hurt. While I'm waiting, I am thinking of trying a piece of needle lace, as that can always be hidden in a second. But I'm a bit discouraged with NL - I can never hide my threads invisibly, like everybody else seems to be able to do. I always wind up with a lumpy bumpy cordonnet, and it's very disheartening. I have taken a couple of NL courses, but you never get that far in the classes, so I've never been able to display my ineptitude to a teacher and have her show me what I'm doing wrong. That's the problem with classes, isn't it? You go home with big plans but then you hit a snag you never recover from. Re: [lace-chat] Quiet?
Hi Sue, Chat has been quiet, probably because of the holiday last Thursday. I don't have any chat except to say that this week is my check-ups, dental this morning and the dreaded colonoscopy on Friday. Got my mammogram done earlier in the month. Dentist decided it was time for another crown, not because he has a boat payment due, but because my insurance will run out when DH retires, which will be before my next check up. He has been "watching" this tooth for years so now is the time to get it done while I get some help to pay for it. I think lots of people are running around trying to get ready for Christmas. Also some of the lace group ladies tell me they are busy trying to sort next years programs. I am trying to get ready for Havant and the NEC. Free gifts at our stall for both fairs and even more at the NEC! [lace-chat] Quiet list
It is a quiet list at the moment. Wonder if, in the UK at least, it's because it's a Bank Holiday weekend - Monday is the official May Day holiday so people have a long weekend. There's usually something going on for families. In Poole there's a three day "party" in the town's park to raise money for the Mayor's charities - fair ground, boat races across the lakes, children's activities, craft stalls, etc. Being a miserable old s--, I don't go near it. Just stay at home relishing the peace and quiet.
