One day DH and I were at a large mall, we hit the button to unlock the car which sounds the horn and three other cars in the area sounded their horns as well. When we got in the car we hit the lock button so that the other cars presumably locked their doors. Dianne in Dunlap, TN Where we just had another snow storm. More this winter than usual. Although, as I found, there can be disadvantages in being easily-recognised!! In our old house, our next-door-neighbour was a real sticky-beakhe was out on the front driveway all day long, and we could do nothing without him seeing. However, yesterday, I drove down the street in the new car - there he was, as usual, fiddling out the front (we didn't move far away). BUT, he didn't even look at me long enough to see who it was, because the car didn't trigger the "there's Ruth - I wonder what she's up to?" mechanism!! Recently we borrowed a top box for luggage for his car and it was great to spy out in the car park, I didn't want to give it back. But a Union Jack on the top sounds like a better alternative to me. Well, Ruth, "being English" you should paint the cross of St. George on the roof of your car - easier, too. Patricia in Wales [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace-chat [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Ah! Yes, Tamara - but here lots of our local carparks are multi-storey, and when I can't find my car on one level, I walk down the steps to the next floor. Stop on the landing half-way down and survey the multitude of cars to see if I recognise any of them. Now *that's* where a Union Jack would come in handy!! As for washing a car - if I get my hands wet, they'll get rough for lacemaking, won't they???!!! Ruth --- "Tamara P. Otherwise, I'd heve ben using the "panic button" to locate the beast, since it sets up a lovely (and very loud) "screech" (same as in a break-in alarm). When coming out of a grocery store with my two preschool children, both who are now mid 30's, I commented that I wondered just where we had left the car. An older woman overheard me and commented I'd made her day and that she'd rush home and tell her husband a young thing like me did the very same thing as she did. Maybe it's not an age thing but a unavoidable disability? Since I'm now at the top end of my 50's I guess it is something I've been stuck with most of my life. We did drive a large bright yellow van, known as Big Bird, for sometime and that was always easy to find. Our current smaller mini van hides with ease in a parking lot to such an extent that we have a small Canadian flag on the antenna which certainly helps in locating the van if you get within reasonable distance. The other method we use to locate the van is to use the remote starter and the running lights as well as the motor come on to give a bit of a clue if you are close enough to have the gadget work. There are advantages, however, I never have to watch reruns, I get to meet lots of new people, (had a conversation with a woman at church one week and when we parted my son told me I'd had the exact same conversation with her the previous week), and get to hide my own Easter eggs! One doesn't have to be diagnosed with any named ailment to suffer the same embarassments :) The only thing I even *try* to remember about the books I read these days is whether I liked them or not; if I liked them, I'm sure to enjoy them the second, and the third, and the fourth time around... *Some* bits may seem "somewhat familiar", but there's always plenty of "new" material to chew on As for parking... Being a small town, we don't have many large parking lots (leastways, we didn't until the U built the parking *garage*; I don't use it much ). When a lot has more than 20-or-so parking spaces, I try to park always in the same area, to cut down on the number of "choices" (and, yes, the first few months after I switched from a navy Toyota Camry to a white Wolksvagen Passat, *were* a nightmare ). In big parking lots in other towns, I always park far away from anyone else; walking to that spot is -- in the long run -- a "saving" on my legs, as I've been known to blunder around (clueless) for hours... :) - Tamara P Duvall Lexington, Virginia, USA Formerly of Warsaw, Poland http://lorien.emufarm.org/~tpd/ To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace-chat [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
