I agree with you.

So should I replace the current button with the css version, keeping the
current colours? When there is a pure css version on the website, it is
easier to test how different colours look like.

I am thinking a new website design to go with the new logo. It looks bad to
use that blue and that orange together. And the website is a little
out-dated.

Doesn't have to be fancy...I just think a new design would go better with
the new logo.

Blue on blue looks like a bad idea to me. Personally, I like the colors,
but there are many people out there who won't be able to see the
squiggles, due to impaired color vision. Does the orange/blue version
really look that bad to everybody? Just asking. Never mind me. --Jan

I agree, but I think making the whole button blue doesn't fit nice with the
rest of the page, which contains quite some red/orange. What about a less
bright orange?

Go ahead - not sure if it's even possible, as there are so few pixels.

I agree that the blue squiggle on yellow/orange background
does not look right. Those colours don't go well together.

In my opinion, the blue squiggle does not look that nice on the yellow
background. Here[1] you can see how it looks like with a blue
background. That download button is also done in pure css, which has the
advantage that the button can grow with the text. It works perfectly in
the latest versions of all major browsers (including IE10) and looks OK
in IE8 and IE9.

And I think that images/squiggle.png should be changed from angular to
rounded squiggle in order to match the logo, shouldn't it?

I like it - actually Luis (the designer) came up with something similar.
The problem with this one is that these icons combined in this way look a
lot like the Windows or MS office logo, that's why I decided against them
(and didn't even include them in the logos which I posted here).

Re: [Languagetool] vote about logo proposals

2012-09-20 Thread Nathan Wells
I was just messing around with some of the ideas Luis had on the designs
and thought I would add a design for ideas that maybe could be explored by
Luis if people like the direction it is going.

I like the idea of the different languages being used, but I also like the
underline, so I merged them a bit...

This last "LT LanguageTool" logo looks the best so far.
"lt" is indeed to read lt ~ 1t. I did not really like the other
logos so far. Too complex. The last one is simpler.

The purple color is a bit odd though.
LanguageTool highlights mistakes in blue in LibreOffice.
So perhaps we should use that color.

The squiggle under LT is angular. What about a
rounded squiggle?

I Like 1, because it links to the implementation perception of users
Maybe combined with 2, which the advantage of already shoming an
applicable icon

Having an underline under languagetool suggests that the name is wrong.
That is not intended of course.

7 shows the multi-lingual aspect quite well, but not the advice
functionality.

By the way, they all are colorfull and bright. Good.

It is a tough job to express the amount of functionality in so little space.

I think variant 1, 3 and 5.2 expresses what LanguateTool is with the
underlining. I was compelled to like 8, but it looks confusing with the o
above the rest.

Re: [Languagetool] vote about logo proposals

2012-09-19 Thread R.J. Baars

The balloons make me think of spoken language, not written language.
And the checking feature is not clear from the logo's.

The idea of having multiple character types in the logo is a good one
(arabic, chinese, japanes, greek, roman..)
Adding a comment popup in a ballon or an underline could express the
advice functionality.

Maybe a strange idea, but why nog have a general logo and a
characterset-specific one (for the installed tool, per language?)

Would it be possible to write the tool name with several character sets?
(Roman L, greek alpha etc?)

Just some wild suggestions.

You're right. As the designer's time is limited, we first have to decide on
a large logo (will be used for the homepage) and we will then get one in
square format.

proposal #2A +1
proposal #2B
