The best reference for load balancing is Jack Coates site. He does a great
job of summing up the major concerns with load balancing and offering
suggestions on how to make it work. There is some great information there
and it is a quick read. Here is the link...

  Hope this helps.

Don't forget the SysAdmin article on redundant connections in the January
2002 issue of SysAdmin magazine, Charles.

FYI:

http://www.samag.com/documents/s=1824/sam0201h/0201h.htm

I'm developing an interest in this type of scenario. How (much more)
complicated does it get if you want to have a DMZ in there as well?

And:

AFAICT from the article, there is little difference in *where* the
uplinks connect to? Or to be a little more specific:

Scenario:
A private (residential) LAN/DMZ is connected via DSL. The capacity of
the DSL-line is getting close to saturation. The line has already been
'turned up' to the maximum available bandwidth (let's say 2Mbit).

Instead of switching to a different type of uplink that supports higher
bandwidth, but is also
1: expensive to get installed
2: expensive to rent
it would be nice to just get a second DSL-line (possibly from the same
ISP) and bundle the two.

This would make no difference to the router, would it?

At this point I'm just being curious, so this is basically smalltalk,
but a very interesting topic at that...

Thoughts?

[Leaf-devel] trying to install UML

2002-09-03 Thread Erich Titl

Hi all

I am trying to build a UML environment according to Jacques/Eric's info.

applying the uml patch works fine, but the bering patches are not all
appliccable.

Should I step back to 2.4.18 or just ignore the Patch diagnostics for the
rejected hunks.

Thanks

Erich

Let me know if any of it looks like something you'd like to tackle...

I can take care of a few things and point you to some updated binaries.

   mac addy command in /etc/modules
~ there was a posted addition to network.conf for this,
would this be plausible or are you looking for
something with the ! bang command?

   Add 192.0.2.0/24 to stopMartians
Support unblocking of private IP ranges

~ I can do these, to start with anyway.

fix extra IP problem when using new net segment.
~ Where is this error coming from? Maybe I can do this,
I can't say that I've run into it.

   Package updates:
 libz
   ~ http://leaf.sourceforge.net/devel/jnilo/packages/libz.lrp

 ssh* (add sftp)
   ~
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/leaf/devel/helices/openssh/

   New packages:
 ntpclient - name too long!

 psentry
   ~ http://leaf.sourceforge.net/devel/ddouthitt/packages/psentry.lrp

Update binaries (or gnu instead of busybox version):
 ?new busybox

I think Bering is using an updated busybox, but IIRC he needed
to patch a couple of things to get it to work correctly.

This is an update on my progress.

1. diskfree.sh - This may take awhile to incorporate, on the back
burner for
the moment.
2. MAC script change(modules/modutils)  *DONE!
3. p9100.lrp if Bihn Do tests it and lets me know  *DONE! Added p9100
and
modified root.lrp to create lp0 and par0
4. Unknown Weblet updates - Waiting for more info.
5. the .lrp.lrp change  *DONE!
6. Burn and Test it.  * I am probably going to do a personal test CD
tomorrow.  My confidence in my Linux/LEAF development skills is low at
the
moment.  Better test, test, test.

If linux isn't the answer, you've probably got the wrong question!
