[leaf-devel] Cramfs packages support
Hi Vladimir, jacques and all, I am plannig to use a cramfs image (like wisp-dist) in LEAF/Lince to include all the basic binaries from the distribution and a lrp package as the configuration backup file. the system boot will be like: GRUB or Syslinux --> kernel + initrd --> --> linuxrc --> lince.cfs + lince.lrp + extra lrp packages --> init 2 ... At the beginning, only one cfs package will be in the core dist (like a firmware) but my intention is to grant support for any kind of cfs package. The structure of the cfs will be the same as LRP: a special /var/lib/lrpkg directory with all the configuration files and a new package.inst file to content a script that the system will execute untill the symbolic links are created (for example, to create the nedeed directories not considered in the system until the package.list is parsed). In wisp-dist, in the linuxrc script there are a block program to install the cfs packages, mountig the cfs images and creating the simbolic links, but it considers only some predefined directories (/bin, /sbin, /usr/sbin, ...) restricting the use of another directories not considered from the beginning. I like the wisp system, so I want to extend it and use a core cfs package like a firmware system. This core cfs pack will contain the main lince software: core system (modules, ulog, dhcpd, sshd, ...), VPN (ipsec), content filtering (squid, dansguardian), firewall (shorewall), QoS (htb.init), virus scanner (pop3vscan). The Lince system will be LEAF compliance, so any lrp packages will be installable. Any software update in Lince system will be treated as a firmware update (only the lince.cfs). Suggestions are wellcome. Regards. -- Juan Jesus Prieto - Dtor. The lodgment Security Code Number was also revealed to me, he then advised me to look for a reliable business partner abroad, who will assist me in investing the money in a lucrative business as a result of economic instability in Nigeria. So this is the main reason why I am contacting you for us to move this money from the security firm to any country of your choice for investment purposes. So I will like you to be the ultimate beneficiary, so that the funds can be moved in your name and particulary to any country of your choice where it will be claimed and invested. [leaf-devel] Ann: Bering-uClibc 1.2.1
Bering-uClibc team released today Bering-uClibc 1.2.1. This is an update for the stable version of Bering-uClibc. Changes are: updated shorewall to 1.4.5 added kernel patches to resolv the long mac addresses with ppp/ppoe/ADSL and ulogd and provide support for Soekris net4801 boxes. You can download Bering-uClibc 1.2.1 from http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=13751 kp --- This SF.Net email sponsored by: Free pre-built ASP.NET sites including Data Reports, E-commerce, Portals, and Forums are available now. [leaf-devel] Ann: Bering-uClibc 2.0 beta2
The Bering-uClibc team released today Bering-uClibc 2.0 beta2. Most notable are the updates of shorewall to version 1.4.5 and 6wall to 1.0.1, some (mostly smaller) fixes and a lot of cleanup work, especially with using latest busybox version 1.0-pre3 (cvs). The kernel patches added, provide better support for Soekris boxes and solves a log problem with ppp/pppoe and ulogd. For a complete Changelog please read: http://leaf.sourceforge.net/mod.php?mod=userpage&menu=91003&page_id=39 Please note: We tested the security patch mentioned in http://www.netfilter.org/security/2003-08-01-nat-sack.html but it occured that it makes Bering-uClibc very unstable. We're going to work on a solution. As usual you can download the image plus a ipv6 drop-in on: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=13751 Additionally you'll find the sources, hints to compile your own image and packages in the LEAF cvs repository on sourceforge.net. Bug reports, questions, success stories, heads-up are welcome. I have a rh9 system and have been trying to compile a 2.4.20 uml kernel for LEAF in vain. Patches do not apply cleanly with the 2.4.20-8 source files I've with rh9. Further, recent posts suggest that 2.6 kernel is giving errors if compiled on gcc 3.xx version while it compiles on gxx 2.95! I think you will drive yourself nutty trying to compile on the RH box directly. Please read http://www.redhat.com/advice/speaks_backport.html. I stopped banging my head against the wall once I understood this article. The way RH backports makes for a nice stable platform for the Red Hat way. This is not a bad thing because their testing and assembling of the distro is what you pay for. However, if you try to apply patches to a Red Hat doctored kernel, compiler, or other RPMs, then I believe you will potentially have errors. If your patch does not touch one of their backported areas of the kernel, then you will mostly have success. I believe a RH kernel src like kernel-2.4.20-19.7.src.rpm means kernel 2.4.20 with 19 patches applied but don't hold me to that. The compilers, glibc, and other applications have similar RH numbers. [leaf-devel] Bering development system.
Can the compiled Bering 1.2 LEAF UML kernel (2.4.20) and file system populated with the patched kernel sources, modules and gcc 2.95 be put on the site for download please. In any case, for the kind of work - compiling additional modules, packages etc, this would help. Over a period of time, I guess I'll get to proper kernel compilation too.
