[Leaf-devel] Problems booting Dachstein CDROM

2001-11-28 Thread David Douthitt

I think I found the problem (at least on ONE system).

First there are a LOT of messages refering to the device at 02:00
(apparently /dev/fd0). Then there is a slew of messages refering to a
device at 03:00 (apparently /dev/hda).

In this system, with this boot, there is no disk in /dev/fd0 and there
is an IDE hard drive at /dev/hda, and a CDROM at /dev/hdc. However, the
CDROM fails in this environment.

The syslinux.cfg on bootdisk.ima says:

append= ... BOOT=/dev/fd0,msdos PKGPATH=/dev/hdc:iso9660 ...

I also noticed that there is a root.lrp both on the CDROM and in the
CDROM boot image - and both are different.

I also managed to get the CDROM running on another system; however, it
didn't tell me what the password was hmmm

I tried the obvious (password, , secret) with no success. I
suspect there's some documentation I should be reading - think I'll go
read the readme or readme.1st file on the CDROM ;)

I think I found the problem (at least on ONE system).

First there are a LOT of messages refering to the device at 02:00

 device at 03:00 (apparently /dev/hda).

In this system, with this boot, there is no disk in /dev/fd0 and there
is an IDE hard drive at /dev/hda, and a CDROM at /dev/hdc. However, the
 CDROM fails in this environment.

This is what I would expect to happen...without a floppy (or other boot
device with a pkgpath.cfg file to override the syslinux.cfg setting), the
default CD-ROM image expects the CD to be on /dev/hda. If it's not, and
there's no mountable boot device (ie no floppy in the drive), the normal LRP
search for a boot device takes over. It will mount the first device it
finds a recognizable file-system on, which is probably your hard-disk on
/dev/hda, not the CD.

 The syslinux.cfg on bootdisk.ima says:

 append= ... BOOT=/dev/fd0,msdos PKGPATH=/dev/hdc:iso9660 ...

This is confusing...did you modify the CD image before burning it? Which CD
image are we talking about here...

I also noticed that there is a root.lrp both on the CDROM and in the
CDROM boot image - and both are different.

This should definately not happen...again, please provide details on the
image you're using.

I also managed to get the CDROM running on another system; however, it
didn't tell me what the password was hmmm

There shouldn't BE a password, unless you're using the really old LRP-CD
based on Eigerstein, which was a snapshot of an internal version I made,
with the password of changeme.

Ahhh I see.

No.

Dachstein CD from ISO image.

It appears to have only the boot image and a set of packages on it.

 of changeme.

Dachstein CD docs say changeme ...
