Perhaps the motherboard has a bit of damage somewhere and flexing it (by tightening screws, etc) or otherwise moving it about a bit is enough to make some part of it misbehave. If the problem was software, then tightening a few screws wouldn't make any difference. [leaf-user] Add module to initrd.lrp
Hello, So how can I add usb storage module (usb-storage.o ???) to initrd.lrp ? Thanks... You would need to put the usb storage module (if indeed this is the right module) in initrd.lrp and also have a usb port available on your router Mobo (Mine's an old Intel socket 7 (not super) and has a USB riser) This would speed up booting a little (how often to you need to reboot?, mine's been running for at least 2 months without trouble) and also allow you to run those big packages like ssh and squid. If you're using Win98 or later, you have to lock the disk before you can successfully replace the MBR, using M$ tools...from my Hard-Disk-HOWTO: 2) If you are running from a windows 95/98 startup disk, you have to run 'lock' to allow low-level access to the hard drive. If you do not do this, syslinux will be unable to install the boot loader on the hard disk, and you will be unable to boot. You can skip this step if you are running a 'real' version of dos instead of a windows startup disk. I knew that was the case when running windows (perhaps also the reason why the win98 fdisk that I copied on to a win98 boot floppy refused to /MBR the hdd), but the original problem was why the linux version of syslinux when installed on the hdd wouldn't boot it... I don't run windows anymore (switched my desktop to Redhat, Gnome and evolution about a year ago) so breaking my Windowsless streak sucked ;) Z --- This sf.net email is sponsored by: Jabber - The world's fastest growing real-time communications platform! [leaf-user] Pump problems
Grabbed the latest wdist, but it happens with everything I setup that uses pump and not ISC's dhclient I'm running ISC's dhcpd server.. Here's how I have it setup: class "128k" { match option dhcp-client-identifier; } subclass "128k" 01:00:02:2d:53:20:18; I add subscribers to different classes, that gives them an IP out of a pool that coorespods with the bandwidth throttling I have setup... Anytime I try to use anything that uses pump, here's what I get in the log: Jul 25 11:28:18 jupiter dhcpd: DHCPDISCOVER from 00:02:2d:53:20:18 via eth1: network wireless: no free leases Jul 25 11:28:57 jupiter last message repeated 3 times Using ISC's dhclient, I set it up like this: send dhcp-client-identifier 01:00:60:1d:f0:a6:f9; request subnet-mask, broadcast-address, time-offset, routers, domain-name, domain-name-servers, host-name; require subnet-mask, domain-name-servers; timeout 60; retry 60; reboot 10; select-timeout 5; initial-interval 2; script "/etc/dhclient-script"; Looking at the man page for pump, there's a --win-client-ident... Added that to the end of the line calling pump in /etc/network/ifup, didn't help... Took it out of there and added an entry to /etc/pump.conf as such: device netcs0 { win-client-ident } That gives an "unknown option" type of error on bootup :( I have been replacing pump with the ISC version, but only because I know I can make it work... Please CC: replies to my personal address as I'm *way* behind in the mailing list right now... [leaf-user] IPSec VPN loses connection - not stable
I've searched the archives but didn't see anything on this one. I have a IPSec VPN tunnel between two Bering boxes (rc2) running FreeS/WAN. Everything is working almost perfectly except that the VPN disconnects intermittently, sometimes as often as once every 1/2 hr or so. In the IPSec log, I see each time the connection is lost there is a message like this: initiating Quick Mode RSASIG+ENCRYPT+TUNNEL+PFS+DISABLEARRIVALCHECK to replace #290 Any suggestion what might be the issue here? Re: [leaf-user] Where to get PrismII w/ Dongle?
Jason- I am not sure what type of connector it has but the USRobotics kit 2445 contains two PLX PCI adapter boards and two Prism based PCMCIA cards, one with an internal antenna for either desktop or laptop and the other with an antenna jack and a magnetic rubber ducky antenna on a 4 ft lead. The kit is $80 at TigerDirect.com. Other than having to load the hostap_plx module (in WISP) and do some funky device renaming (WISP expects the wireless interfaces to be named netcsX whereas in my experience wifi cards are usually named wlanX), they work fine with LEAF/WISP/Linux. I'd be interested to know what type of connector they use, it's small (has to fit in the thickness of a PCMCIA card) and snaps in, it's not a screw in. Z On Thu, 2002-07-25 at 14:07, Jason C. Zachariah Mully wrote about "Re: [leaf-user] Where to get PrismII w/ Dongle?": > funky device renaming (WISP expects the wireless interfaces to be named > netcsX whereas in my experience wifi cards are usually named wlanX), Various wireless drivers name the interface in various forms (wlanX, ethX etc), and interface name can change depending in what order you insert the card. That was the reason why WISP-Dist's scripts rename interface to a format netcs[socket_number]. This allows you to replace a card in a socket with a different type without making any changes to the configuration. > they work fine with LEAF/WISP/Linux. > I'd be interested to know what type of connector they use, it's small > (has to fit in the thickness of a PCMCIA card) and snaps in, it's not a > screw in. > > Z > > > On Thu, 2002-07-25 at 14:07, Jason C. I can get with only one per time! And if i can't, it is a wavelan card limitation??? or its a software limitation??? If i put the station 1 work like one AP1000??? It will work??? But another dummy question, with one wisp working as ap1000 (With prism based card, like Vladimir told me they do it), is possible to put the Wisp-ap1000 get connected with the real ap1000??? You need to get the ns8390 module as well as the ne module. Doing the same, adding an old ISA AT/LANTIC card to my WISP box. Hello all, I have a lan that has the following setup- Dachstein router w/ 2 nics eth0 goes to a cisco router to a fractional t provided by at&t w/static ip for internet access eth1 goes to a local lan = 192.168.0 network We also have another lan (192.168.2 network) across a point to point t that i would like to have access to the internet through the dachstein box How can i get the router to see the other lan? Is it just as simple as adding the 192.168.2.0 to the /etc/networks file? If you're really using Dachstein, and not bering (as the subject line mentions), you just need to add some settings to /etc/network.conf. Setting: INTERN_NET="192.168.0.0/24 192.168.2.0/24" Should get traffic from both internal networks to pass through the firewall, but you still have to have some sort of route to the second internal network. If you've added another interface to the Dachstein box, it will be directly connected to the 192.168.2.0/24 network, so routing is already taken care of. If there's some host out on the 192.168.0.0/24 network that is the route to the 192.168.2.0/24 network, you'll have to explicitly add this route to /etc/network.conf so the firewall knows where to send the packets. Something like: eth0_ROUTES="192.168.2.0/24 192.168.0.???" Of course, you'll need to use the actual IP of the box that's hooked to the 192.168.2.0 network... If you're actually using bering, ignore all of the above, and start searching for shorewall documentation :) Charles Steinkuehler http://lrp.steinkuehler.net http://c0wz.steinkuehler.net (lrp.c0wz.com mirror) --- This sf.net email is sponsored by: Jabber - The world's fastest growing real-time communications platform! Hmm...I'm not familiar with anything that will "spoof" multiple MAC addresses from a single interface. It *IS* possible (things like LaBrea do it), but the things I know about all talk directly to the low-level network, bypassing things like the kernel's IP stack. If you don't want to hand-code a custom application (and can't find anyone who has or is willing to), I don't think you can do exactly what you describe. What you *CAN* do is try reading between the lines, and using an alternate configuration. Your cable-company is probably using MAC -> IP mapping in their DHCP servers, which is why they want unique MAC addy's for each IP. There is likely *NO* filtering on traffic by destination MAC address. If the cable company has given you a range of static IP's, and you know what they are, simply configure your Bering system for all of the IP's, and don't worry that they're all coming from the same MAC addy. You should only be in trouble if your cable company does something really fancy, like block traffic to/from IP's with non-existant/expired DHCP leases, but that would require extra work (not to mention some finesse), which seems against the grain of the typical ISP :-) If your IP's are static, but you don't know them, you can override your built-in MAC addy, and run your DHCP client to "collect" the list of IP's assigned to you, then use the procedure above. HTH... I suggest that you just make it part of the local zone unless you have different policies for the 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.2.0/24 networks. Assuming the ppp interface is ppp0: loc ppp0- 2) To enable 192.168.2.0/24 to talk to 192.168.1.0/24 and vise versa, you'll want to add this to the /etc/shorewall/policy file. loc loc ACCEPT Be sure that you place that policy before the "all all REJECT" catchall policy at the end. 3) You'll have to set up the routing correctly -- that's done outside of Shorewall in your /etc/ppp/if-up.local script.
