[leaf-user] Bering UClibc Packages Updates

2005-11-29 Thread Godfried Duodu
Does anyone have a failsafe system of updating existing packages on
their Bering boxes with new lrp files without doing a wholesale system
update?

Thanks.
Godfried

[leaf-user] Re: [leaf-devel] ANN: Bering-uClibc 2.2

2004-08-19 Thread Godfried Duodu
Any info on how to do an easy/painless upgrade from the beta5 to 2.2 to
preserve old config files?

 K.-P. =?iso-8859-15?q?Kirchd=F6rfer?= [EMAIL PROTECTED] 8/18/04
9:26:04 AM
Following our well known 'release early, release often' cycle, we are
proud to
present Bering-uClibc 2.2.

This new release had the usual testing period, that included
a few betas and one release candidate.

Changes from 2.2-rc1:
 - Busybox rc3
 - weblet package was split into two:
weblet.lrp (the webpages and CGI scripts)
sh-httpd.lrp (the 'webserver')

The reason for splitting up 'content' from 'webserver' is to enable use
of a
different, more powerful webserver like mhttpd, and to ease support of

content changes and any enhancements.

Important changes from 2.1:
- Update kernel to 2.4.26
- linuxrc reworked and a more flexible leaf.cfg was added (in addition
to
syslinux.cfg) plus a new module loading scheme (Thx to Charles
Steinkuehler)
 - added dnsmasq to the base image, this replaced dnscache and dhcpd
 - update of ash to dash 0.5.1
 - redesign of pcmcia support to easy support and enhance support for
more
cards.

As usual, the full ChangeLog is available at:
http://leaf.sourceforge.net/mod.php?mod=userpagemenu=91003page_id=39

You'll find the the base image, a complete modules tarball, an ipv6
drop-in
and a CD ISO image with all available packages in the FRS:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=13751package_id=67534release_id=261044

enjoy;

for the Bering-uClibc team

[leaf-user] Syslog error messages

2004-07-26 Thread Godfried Duodu
When Bering uClibC boots up, I get the following messages for snort and
squid-2 packages:

1. Syslog: Fatal error: log directory `/var/log/snort' does not exist.
2. /var/cache: directory does not exist.

I created /var/log/snort and /var/cache and backup the initrd and etc
packages but get the error message when I do a reboot.

Secondly, how do I capture screen messages during boot up?

RE: [leaf-user] Bering-uClibc_2.2-beta5 Adding Packages

2004-07-21 Thread Godfried Duodu
1. When I attempt to load a package using the command lrpkg -i
package, I get the error message `archive packgage not found', even
though the package is on the boot device.
2.Dropbear does not load even though it is listed in LRP in leaf.cfg.
The same applies to sshd.

3.What is the best method to load extra packages?
Is it by adding another LRP line or extending beyond col. 80 in the
existing line?

Thanks

[leaf-user] Bering uClibC 2.2.0b5 on Hdrive

2004-07-19 Thread Godfried Duodu
Good Morning,
I have a working floppy version of Bering 2.2.0b5 that I wanted to boot
from my hard drive that originally had Bering 1.2.
When the Bering box boots up I get the error message:
VFS: Cannot open root device or 03:02.
Please append a correct root= boot option
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 03:02

I used the same procedure that is able to boot Bering 1.2. Can anyone
provide any hints on booting Bering 2.2.0b5 on a hard drive?
I was using syslinux 2.10.
Thanks.

[leaf-user] Bering uClibc

2004-05-03 Thread Godfried Duodu
I have been using Bering 1.2 and tried to upgrade to uClibc on a
floppy.
Everything was ok except that whenever I tried to backup a package
after making config changes, the floppy became unbootable. I tried this
on 3 floppies and each time the floppy would reboot. Bering 1.2 did not
do that.
Any explanation on what is going on? Thanks.

when one module depends on another, you can usually find out about
this by looking in the modules.dep file that came with the compiled
modules you are looking at.

In this case, lp.o depends on parport.o.

Re: [leaf-user] Bering /var/log

2002-08-26 Thread Godfried Duodu

When I have Bering runing for a couple of hours /var/log size fills up and is
uncompressed and error messages begin showing up on the screen. I have changed my
log_size to 4M and I am still getting the same messages. Anyone noticed that?

[leaf-user] Thttpd and Weblet

2002-08-02 Thread Godfried Duodu

Can I run both programs on my leaf box using different ports?
Weblet is using port 80 and thttpd using 8080. Both ports have been opened on the
firewall but only weblet can be accessed.
Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Moving the installation to an hard disk won't help: unless you substantially
changed the original Bering setup, Bering is designed to run in memory.
So you should rather try to add syst_size=10M in your syslinux.cfg file

I have just realised that shorewall is not loading fully. I added the common file to

coming up it stops on:

What permissions should common.def have?

[leaf-user] Shorewall config

2002-07-16 Thread Godfried Duodu

I have setup Bering LEAF LRP for a cable modem and 2 NICS. I specified eth0 as the loc
and eth1 as the DMZ. I am able to get acces to the internet on the eth0 subnet but not
on the eth1. I am able to ping from the bering box to pc's on both networks and also
to the box from both subnets. I did use the config files for three-interfaces for
shorewall.
What other changes can anyone suggest to allow access to the eth1 subnet?
Thanks in advance.
GD
