Re: [leaf-user] Hdparm

2006-05-09 Thread Eric Spakman
Hello Roger,

The hdparm program is available in the hdsupp.lrp package:
http://leaf.sourceforge.net/bering-uclibc/index.php?module=pagemasterPAGE_user_op=view_pagePAGE_id=3MMN_position=3:3

Eric

 Dear list,

I was wondering if anyone has compiled a version of hdparm for Bering
uClibc 2.4.1. I created an hdparm.lrp to spin down the hard drive after a
few minutes inactivity on my old Bering 1.2 machines, and now that I'm
updating them to the current uClib release it doesn't work (big surprise
 there).

If there isn't allready an hdparm, can someone compile one for me? I can
supply the source if needed, and would be happy to share the hdparm.lrp
 with anyone interested.

 Thanks
 Roger McClurg

Thanks Eric,

Makes me feel pretty dumb not checking hdsupp first.

Hi Roger,

 Thanks Eric,

Makes me feel pretty dumb not checking hdsupp first.

No problem ;)

Also take a look at the hdspindn.lrp package created by Bodo Meissner,
it's available in the Contributions section of the packages page. It
contains a script to control hdparm.

Re: [leaf-user] HDPARM

2004-04-08 Thread freeman
Personally, I'd second this 'motion' for this to be posted to SF.

A large factor in my deciding to go with a 2-floppy setup (vs a HD) was
my desire to reduce energy consumption on my box which runs 7/24. I even
underclocked the CPU so as to be able to disconnect the PS-fan and keep
it further quiet and less energy-consuming!

As we watch energy prices rise (not to mention the problem of global
climate change caused by CO2 emissions from, in part, electrical
generating stations) this HD-powerdown, though small in it's energy
CO2 savings, is nonetheless a step in the right direction.

Spindown will automatically put the HD into standby mode (hdparm -y) at
the end of the boot process. I can send it to anyone interested, but if
the developers think it is useful maybe one of them will agree to put it
up on Sourceforge.

Roger,

I set this up on one system so far (not using your .lrp) and it works great.
You did it the right way and i'd like to add your lrp to my routers... Old
hard drives are too cheap and plentiful, and its too easy to replace a
failed drive not to take advantage of them.
