Bullshit
I thought that Bates was writing satire.
"---money-making organisation". Wonder how he noticed that one?
22 men with too much power--- err excuse me but how many people 'control'
Leeds United. And what are their extremely worthy and noble motives?
As for leaving FIFA ?
If it was so bad why did you not suggest all this before the UK lost? It
suddenly became decrepit? It was changed overnight whilst you weren't
looking?
The UK campaigned. They thought that they had so many candidates. But they
did not. Because the others did it better. The others did not put on brain
dead, arrogant, insulting programmes on the TV.
In short the UK hyped itself, annoyed everyone and then failed completely at
the real test.
Sound familiar?
The same attitude on the field and off it.
You dont win anything by hyping yourself senseless.
You dont make changes when you dont hold failures responsible.
You win by being better. Not by hype and spin.

Re the favourite hairdresser bit...I recall as a young lad, being taken
to have my hair cut to a place also near the railway station. It was a
special place.all the barbers were handicapped in some way..I
believe they were all WW2 veterans. Some had higher soles on their shoes to
make up for a short leg, etc. Being very young, I asked a lot of questions
at the timethey all were super guys. I guess that place is long gone by
now. Leeds, I'm sure, was proud of that special place.

OK, then: show us the legal text showing its legal. actually allow me to

For your education:

*What are the laws in Queensland?*
Abortion law in Queensland is governed by sections 224-226 and 228 of the
criminal code as well as the Menhennitt ruling (1969): the case of R v
Davidson and R v Bayliss and Cullen (1986).

According to sections 224-226 of the criminal code of Queensland any woman
who has had or had the intention of having an abortion is guilty of a crime
and liable for up to seven years jail time. For the exact wording of the
law click

Re: [LU] Qatar

2010-12-05 Thread Eric B
my point was always, and stil is: abortion IS illegal by law. nothing else,
nothing more.

I do understand that practice of a low might be far from what the text of
the law states. One of the best examples of that is/was smoking
drugs in the Netherlands: my understanding it that it is not legal by law,
but tolerated. The purpose of that is that if the lawmakers must reverse
the decision to tolerate then (ie by pressure from EU?) then this can be
done very quickly without having to go through the motions of passing a new
law.

I dont think Mark has stated his personal opinion (?), correct me if Im
wrong Mark. I think Mark wanted to let me know that the practice of the law
is vastly
different than what the law states, as above in the example from the
Netherlands. However starting of the message by stating Im talking shit when
I merely
state a legal fact did not the the rest of the message justice?

No

The law 101 for your benefit

The law is all about precedent.

The availability of abortions has been determined by case law ie the last case
which went before the courts allowed an abortion under the scenario I
described. This was about 30 years ago I think.

So subsequent cases would follow this precedent.

Re: [LU] flag for Howson - the last word -

2010-12-05 Thread DAVID NATTAN
I know my last post was supposed to be my last on the subject BUT listening to
commentary on LUTV it does say "flag has stayed down, oh its gone up now, it is
very very late"
Make of that what you will
It also looks that Howson was indeed just onside though it is easy to see why
the lino flagged and cannot really be criticised.
I also owe McCormack a bit of an apology, when he was put through, the defender
was just between him and the goal and so he was correct to look for support,
although Max and, dare I say it, Beckford, in the same position, would have
tried to push it past the defender and go it alone.
Even from the camera behind the goal it is unclear as to who got th first and
you can see McCormack telling another player he scored it - commentator gives
it to Becchio.
Becchios miss in the first half looks even worse on TV as does Max's follow up
shot.

Just my view of the offside goal. I was in the South Stand Upper today, near
the linesman and he definitely had his flag up before Howson kicked it as I
didn't bother jumping up when he scored. Whether or not he was offside tho
was a different matter, I couldn't tell.

On another note, had a curry (now we're talking) from Shabbab opposite the
Scarboro last night late on, excellent! Especially good to know as there's a
lack of places in the city centre.

many women this is not a choice but merely an economic imperative.

[LU] YP England should quit FIFA – Bates

2010-12-05 Thread John Boocock IFA

Our Leader speaks...

Published Date: 03 December 2010
http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/sport/England-should-quit-FIFA-.6649935.jp
By Richard Sutcliffe

AS the fallout continued from England's failed attempt to host the 2018
World Cup, Ken Bates last night called on the major European nations to
break away from FIFA after branding them a "money-making organisation".
The decision to award the tournament to Russia has led to a wave of
criticism being aimed at world football's governing body from this
country, much of it fuelled by the English bid only winning two votes
from the 22-man executive committee despite being praised for the
quality of the bid.

Calls have been made for a major shake-up in the bidding process with
the chief executive of England's campaign Andy Anson admitting there is
little point in bidding again under the current rules. Leeds United
chairman Bates, whose club would have staged games had the 2018 finals
come to this country, is equally adamant that changes need to be made
and believes the best course of action for major nations such as England
would be to quit FIFA altogether.

He said: "When it was announced, we hooted with laughter and derision.
We are totally unimpressed. I am of the opinion that the big European
nations should resign from FIFA and start their own organisation.

"Let them get on with it. It is a case of the tail wagging the dog.

"We have little Jack Warner (FIFA vice-president and member of the
executive committee that decided on the World Cup host) standing in the
corner, Oceania, the Caribbean, and the oil states. All that happens is
they keep giving the votes to (Sepp) Blatter so he stays in power.

"If they didn't have Spain, France, Germany and the United Kingdom,
there wouldn't be a FIFA. There wouldn't be a UEFA for that matter. The
whole of FIFA could then move to Moscow and live in retirement in a nice
dacha in the woods surrounding the Russian capital.

"FIFA is a waste of space. It is a money-making organisation and I don't
think they give a damn about football.

"I am seriously unhappy and, at the same time, contemptuous. None of the
television companies should bid for the TV rights for 2018 or (they
should) put in a derisory bid.

"The fact of the matter is we have the best stadiums and the best
infrastructure. If you think of the disaster of the Champions League
final in Moscow a couple of years ago when people were being billeted
100 miles away, it is a joke."

As for Anson's belief that the bidding process should be changed to give
more countries a say in where a World Cup is hosted, Bates added: "If
everyone had a vote there would be more people and countries to
allegedly bribe. Should the Bahamas have the same vote as England?
Should Andorra have the same as Germany?

"No, it is rubbish. We should form an elite association of countries.
They are a two-bob organisation above any law and should be treated with
the contempt they deserve."

Bates was equally scathing in his assessment of the news that Qatar had
been handed the 2022 World Cup ahead of other bidders that included
Australia, the United States and Japan. The Leeds chairman said: "As for
Qatar, how are they going to develop football when Australia, who have
all the stadia and put on a tremendous Olympics, would have put on a
great show?"
England secured just two of the 22 FIFA members' votes and were knocked
out in the first round while Russia went on to triumph and England bid
chief Anson revealed that FIFA president Blatter had spoken to the
members of the "evils of the media" just before they voted – and some
have blamed BBC Panorama and Sunday Times investigations for a backlash
against England.

He also said that countries such as England were hampered by the need to
maintain "straight, ethical" standards, with the implication that some
rivals were free to exploit grey areas in the bidding process.

Asked if he would advise England to bid again Anson said: "I would say
right now 'don't bother until you know that the process is going to
change to allow bids like ours a chance to win'.

"When you have the best technical bid, fantastic inspection visits, the
best economic report, and from what people told us the best presentation
it's quite hard to stomach that seemed to count for absolutely nothing.

"Having only 22 guys voting gives them too much influence. With so much
power it becomes very, very difficult.

"FIFA need to look at it – it makes it very easy for formidable
competitors like Russia and Qatar to gain influence."

Anson added: "If you look at bids like ours, Australia and USA we are
clearly accountable, we have to do things in a straight ethical way.

"I don't know what else happened but clearly Qatar and Russia are
formidable competitors."

Anson also criticised FIFA for holding the 2018 and 2022 bid processes
simultaneously because it promoted vote-trading. He said: "Running two
bids

Watching the goals on BBC prog last night I noticed how the Palace defender
looked at lino and then started to chase Howson, then looked at lino again and
stopped. This tends to sugest that flag was down when he first looked and was
therefore a 'late flag'
Not that it matters at all -lino can flag whenever he wants and it was
certainly before Howson put it in the net. Don't get a decent angle of Howson
and defenders when ball kicked but he did look offside
None of it matters now WE WON !!! and deserved it.
Also on TV noticed what a lovely flick it was from Snoddy to McCormack for
second goal to put  McC  through if he had not been pulled back - so congrats
to ref for allowing play to go on and Becchio to score (thought keeper dived
over it and should have done better)

Re: [LU] Qatar

2010-12-05 Thread Leslie Phillips
Brilliant...Absolutely Brilliant.

Guys
Let me share this as it is now almost appropriate.

We have undergone an awful tragedy.
A bus was caught in a fire ball, as you all probably know.
It contained a class of soon to be Officers in our prison service.
A very large minority of the deceased were Druse Arab [Muslims].
The immediate after effects were extremely sad.
The leadership [ better known as leadershit] rallied, or tried.
The guy who had me in tears was the Druse Lord Mayor and the way he spoke.
He spoke of compassion, and togetherness.
Our Guliani was an Arab.
And I have no problem with that.
None what so ever.

A camera crew went out at night into the periphery of the flames.
They caught two Israeli Arabs.
They were hosing down a tree.
'What are you doing?'
'We have to save at least one'
'Is that not dangerous?'
'Sure, but what can we do, at least one!'
Not Arab arsonist.
Just men linked in pain.
Doing something dangerous but for us all.

The Turks flew into help us. Just watching their planes was extremely
moving.
So did the Brits.
So did the Russians.
So did the Egyptians.
So did the Jordanians.
So did the Palestinians.
So did the world.
This morning we heard that Greek & Turkish army pilots were flying in the
same plane.
To put out fires--- not start them

Why this posting?

Because yesterday there were no religious clerics to be seen.
The politicians had slunk into the shadows.

Yesterday the 'Brotherhood of man' was at force.
That's the way that it should be.

And fuck all the religious leaders and the politicians.

In the '60's we believed, we really believed, in the 'Brotherhood of man' &
'Power to the people'.
I still believe.
So should you all.

Yesterday was our day.

Michael

Rich,

I honestly couldn't tell whether he was offside or not but the linesman
definitely had his flag up or I would have been jumping about like a loon
with the rest of them!

Not given my season ticket up just yet, gave it to a mate's son cos I took a
friend (female!) as we were on an all-dayer.

Looking forward to another all-dayer next Sat, off to my 1st away game of
the season. I've been un-successful in my other applications. Breakfast and
a few in Wetherspoons, then the 12.51 train to Burnley.

Then an all-day Christmas sesh on the 18th for QPR game. It's a hard
life... ;-)

Oh, and my two penneth on the Becchio debate. I've kept quiet as I've been a
fence sitter. I'm now in the "for" camp. Altho not a great player, I think
he seems to be doing a great job for us - and he certainly always gives 100%
- just wish they'd drop the embarrasing Berbatov song!

Re: [LU] Palace

2010-12-05 Thread Paul Dally
for the off side goal, the linesman did flag but very late - I think he
waited until howson actually touched the ball rather than anyone else.

It wasn't offside though!

What a great afternoon – didn’t even seem cold. We deserved the win, no
doubt
about that but Palace came to win also and troubled us throughout the 90
mins –

more than they should have.

So when I saw the line up I went ballastic, 4-5-1 with Becchio as the lone
striker. Good God Simon get a grip, we shouldn’t be playing like this
against a
bottom of the league team at home. Also, with Bradley Johnson holding the
fort
in central midfield nothings going to happen. This system relies heavily
on
runners from midfield breaking though because Becchio’s movement his
limited so
he really doesn’t have much of a role in this system. For 50 minutes we
huffed
and puffed, played some nice football, created some good chances and made
lots
of mistakes, missed some real sitters, had a great goal chalked off by the
ref
(not the linesman) and made some really basic errors which helped Palace
go in
1-0. It could have easily have been 2 if it hadn’t been for a great
Schmeichel

save on 45 minutes.

First that ‘off-side’ goal. Great movement and great running from Howson
saw him
played through. He took the goal brilliantly, took a look at the linesman
who
had his flag down then slid on his knees and saluted the south stand. The
ref
then unbelievable cut short the celebrations and pulled back play – we
were
still dancing in the stands. I always take a glance at the linesman before
I go
mental and although it did look close the linesman was in the best
position to
judge whether Howson was off-side and he decided not. Really bad
officiating.

We continued to create chances and then make mistakes. The best chances
fell to
Becchio, who lets be honest, should have had 6 today. The worse miss was a
ball

in to him, He was stood 2 yards from goal but failed to convert – he was
hesitant which is strange because he’s usually full on when he’s in the 6
yard
box. Becchio was then presented with a free 6 yard box header but he
tamely
headed on to the bar. Howson and Gradel also missed good chances. Towards
the
end of the half though we lost our way. Johnson started to detioriate and
passes
started going astray. Gradel changed wings to try and be more effective ,
but it

just wasn’t working. I watched attack after attack where we neatly played
ourselves up to the edge of the box but nobody was making the runs behind
their
defence. Becchio in particularly is clueless when it comes to making runs
like
this and plays most of the game with his back to the goal. He really
shouldn’t

be the striker if we want to play 4-5-1 at home.

Then there was their goal. Johnson got caught out on the left, he didn’t
have
the pace to recover leaving their man in. He crossed and converted 1-0.
They

didn’t deserve it but we really hadn’t played well enough. The system wasn’t
working and Grayson has to change it at the break.

Amazingly he didn’t ! Shocking really. So for another 10 minutes we
laboured,
same formation same problems. It was beginning to turn into a nightmare
then
Simon jumped into life. He dragged Johnson and Gradel off and out on
McCormack
and Sam. Now I’m no fan of Bradley Johnson and as far as I’m concerned he
can go
now because he’s not good enough for this league never mind the
premiership
(what a dreamer his agent must be) but he was badly booed when he left the
field
which I thought was out of order. I’d ask those fans to boo the manager
for
picking him not Johnson who to his credit is trying his best – it’s just
that

this is not good enough, never has been.

The subs changed the formation and changed the match. Suddenly we were
4-4-2
which Kilkenny and Howson central (strange that isn’t it !!???) and a
winger in
Sam who actually was lively and caused a threat. McCormack was brilliant.
He was
lively, he made runs, he controlled the ball well, he had a goal
disallowed and
according to Grayson he got the equaliser (need to see it again). The goal
was
coming though. Kilkenny had nearly equalised when he brilliantly brought
the
ball down with his right foot, flicked it on to his left and volleyed from
25
yards. It was straight at the keeper which was good for him because he
knew nowt
about it. Then Becchio had another free 6 yard header which was easier to
score
instead he too put it straight at the keeper. He shook his head, he knew
he

should have scored.

The equaliser to be honest is a bit of a blur but it looked like a few
people
tried things and it just seemed to come out to Becchio. He had his back to
goal
but managed to turn and hit it. Maybe it McCormack on the way on, who
knows, it

was Becchio’s goal.

Palace to their credit came at us again and again and we wobbled
