[LU] Fixtures

2014-07-29 Thread Mark Pilling
Hi gang

Sorry I presumably missed this Anyone got a link to a csv or ical for
putting our fixtures in Google calendar or outlook?

Way I look at it (and I know, I don't get to go and watch) is I wish
Hockaday well. He will have to be really good to survive long. His track
record means no leeway for him, The fans, press and players will all turn
on him the second things don't go well. So, hope it happens and he
survives!

Would be lovely to think that all these young Italians mean we will be
playing cultured classy football and mesmerising the opposition with
technically polished flair. I fear we're more likely to damage their games
and knock that out of them by forcing thwm into an alien kick rush and
hope.

Anyway, best of luck everyone.

regarding this Aquaboy, I remember when we got Fat Frank Strandli - was going
to be the new Van Basten - turned out to be the new Ray Hankin (when injured)!

It's going to be fun that's for sure.

Re: [LU] Fixtures

2014-07-29 Thread Brendan McWilliams
Hi all,

I still think that Cellino has done everything that i would have liked a new
owner to have done apart from two things:

1) the Hock

2) an influx of players not used to the english 2nd tier.

3) get the finances under control

The zillions of mails on The Hock are largely merited but miss one thing - he's
got about 3 or 4 games to make it or he's out. End of. I reckon Zola will be
installed before the end of Sept.

For the new players, i think it was Dave Nattan that pointed out that the
starting XI will still largely be half to two thirds of those from last
season...and in any case, Kebe Stewart were used to the Championship and look
how well that went.

Very brief foray out of lurkdom. Mainly to say I have NEVER been so
uninterested in a coming football season as I am now. In my 44 years
supporting LUFC I have never had a season approach and yet felt so much
apathy and disinterest.

More than ever, even through cuddly Ken and all the post Ridsdale
shenanigans, we are a joke. Run by a loon, with a team of journeymen or
potential youths (Who will leave pretty quickly if they are half decent),
a coach who will hardly inspire players to come, our best player (Who's
goals last year, let's face it, kept us up) sold and no marks being signed
from second rate European leagues.

I think I'm done. We're 4-1 (At best) to go down, so not even worth
putting money on it to give the cloud a silver lining. Depressing,
embarrassing and not worth the anguish anymore.

2014-07-29 Thread Dr Michael Benjamin
I'm still interested in the league.
I agree it could very badly.
Birmingham and Blackpool are worse off.
I don't think that Cellino intentions are the problem. It's that he's a one
man band. Trusts his own quixotic judgment. While that may work in Italy
his lack of experience makes that a serious impediment here.
And I don't see a plan B .

2014-07-29 Thread Ian Murray
Id swap places with them in a heartbeat. It's not long since we finished above
them in league 1. Look at the progress they made in that time! The difference
is, if we had made it to where they did, players would be trying to join, not
trying to leave.

This is why I will never accept someone like Hockaday, or mediocrity at the
club. It might be misguided arrogance, but if we lose our sense of ourselves as
a club then we have lost everything and might as well all go home. How many
compromises should we be prepared to make? How many times should we accept the
sale of our only good players as 'good business'. I say fuck good business. I
don't cheer the balance sheet.

2014-07-29 Thread Jim Moran
I don't think Southampton have ambitions to break into the top 4, and quite
rightly so, the only way into the top 4 of the Premier League now is
billions of pounds or billions of fans. In the short term, Koeman is a
manager who works well with young players, and they are clearly brilliant
at spotting and nurturing youth through. Must be fantastic to see all that
talent coming through, although I bet they can't put in a decent shift.
