[LU] Non LU - New Leeds Fan

2018-08-21 Thread Ian Murray
Hey all

Very pleased to announce the fact that on Thursday my wife Nicky gave birth to
our first son and Leeds fan, Finlay (Finn) James Murray.

Finn and I watched the Rotherham game in hospital together and he was very
pleased with our performance.

I am sure that he will think that us winning the league is just one of those
things that happens routinely - which is how I felt in 1992. I am so
re-invigorated with Bielsa that I have bought an android box so that I dont
have to miss any games this season from Perth - if they are not on that then
they can be streamed on the leeds website. I have also spent an unreasonable
amount of cash on LUFC baby tat to dress the lad in.

Anyway, I am just telling everyone I know because I can't smile wide enough
right now.

Congratulations to all!

Here's hoping he's more lucky than my eldest son who was born in 1993, and
so has never seen his team win anything!

(I also foisted the support of the Washington Redskins on him, and they too
last won the Super Bowl in 1992. Poor lad...)

I can’t remember when I joined the list but I’m thinking I was probably early
twenties.
I’ve got an 11 year old that (according to my wife) I’ve brainwashed into
supporting Leeds.
He has a season ticket with me in the family stand.

fair play to us for getting back in to it with a great run and cross from
Shackleton.
and credit to Bielsa for pulling Phillips off after 20 mins. That's a great
decision, Philips was awful.
Allioski is a liability - brainless footballer, always off side. Hopefull he'll
score now.
It's just not we've come to expect but in reality it aint been that bad. Just
average. Our defence looks very lightweight tonght though against a lively
Swansea team.

[LU] Swansea from the armchair

2018-08-21 Thread {broken-address} Richard Walker
There were so many things wrong with that performance but who cares ? I was
impressed by the way we ground out the result after we lost our captain in the
warm up. As the game went into the last 20 minutes I thought we looked the
fitter and more likely to score. Yes they had the best chance of the game but
they were playing on the counter. Our attitude, fitness and positivity were
there to see and there was absolutely no doubt that we were getting something
from that game. That is a remarkable transformation from last season.
Let's look at the positives.
Taking Philips off after 25 mins was incredible. Have you ever known a manager
do that ? Philips was terrible was getting overrun and was on a yellow. Moving
Klitch back and putting on Baker was a great move. I thought Baker made a
difference and some of his passing was excellent whereas Kiltch did everything
Philips couldn't, winning the ball and starting attacking moves with
intelligent balls forward.
Shackleton was brilliant especially for the first goal and he isn't scared to
go forward.
Some of the football at times was great pass and move football.
The Hernandez goal was top class.
They had height and without Cooper we had none but we still challenged and made
it hard for them.
The negatives:
Kalvin Philips showing that against a team with pace that run at you he will
struggle.
Siaz for me was the biggest disappointment. He looked a yard short and
struggled all night by his high standards and he also got booked for petulance
late on. Same old Siaz.
Ayling is no centre back . He gave it his all but I thought he looked out of
his depth and was all over the place at times.
Scores for me:
Peacock - 7. I thought he could hace saved the first goal but he made up with 2
good saves late on.
Shackleton - 8. Was under a lot of pressure when defending but came through
well. I love this lad.
Douglas - 6. I thought he also struggled a bit tonight
Ayling - 5. Not a centre back
Beradi - 8. Held us together at times and the way he wins the ball and drives
forward typifies our team at the moment.
Kiltch - 7. Steady, consistent - everything Philips wasn't.
Philips - 1. Awful.
Allioski - 3. Don't rate this lad. Just a shame Harrison didn't take his
chance.
Siaz - 5. Off the pace.
Roofe - 7. Got his goal and you can't argue with that.
Hernandes - 7. Frustrating at times the way he concedes possession but that
goal was unbelievable.
Subs:
Baker - 7. Definite promise with this lad.
Bamford - 7. I thought he looked sharper and his run and pass for the 2nd goal
was great. He looks like a real striker.
Harrison - 4. Disappointing. Made some good runs but no end product. Not
writing him off but he needs to do better.
Bielsa - all 3 subs on by 60 minutes. that's risky and we've seen that go wrong
before but he went for it and it worked.
Very happy with us at the moment
TOP OF THE LEAGUE and WE'RE GOING UP AS F'CKING CHAMPIONS.

Re: [LU] Reality check?

2018-08-21 Thread David Smail
We got hammered 2-2. A flattering result for us I thought. We did well to
fight back but Swansea looked so much better - they would - they've had more
than a taste of the top flight.

It's good for our club to have been under the cosh for such long periods and
get off with a draw. Our esteemed management team now have more to consider
having seen us nearly mauled in some passages of play tonight.

On the plus side, we did daw level - twice, which against such stronger
opposition was no mean feat. Our substitutions were good - I applaud MB for
that. The bubble has burst and now it's time to see the true metal, that
hopefully, lives underneath. When Swansea were promoted to the premier
league, they did it in style with some to spare and stayed there for some
time - I admired them for that. I hope we can mimic and surpass their
achievements of yester-year.

2018-08-21 Thread {broken-address}
Pretty much sums up my views, but I’ll add that Harrison does not look like a
winger to me? I don’t know what he brings tbh. Good result in a game which
circumstance (Cooper) and our naive defending (2 at the back too often for
comfort) made quite tricky. I think we can pretty much assume that running
around alot is not going to be a surprise any more. Saiz - brought back views
from last season with his whining! Needs to stop!

Anyway, I am just telling everyone I know because I can't smile wide enough
right now.

My 2 are 22 & 25, neither follow football, but always keep an eye out for Leeds
results and been to a few games. They know to avoid me if we loose.

Their Mum and my first love, died 10 years ago, but happily met someone else
and actually got married last week in Las Vegas, life (and football) can be
utter shit sometimes, but good times often round the corner.

Can't remember when I joined, must have been 95ish. List has been ever
present, first thing I check when I open up my PC.

Been in the states for 5 weeks on a road trip with my girls and new wife, so
watched all 5 games at weird times. By myself now Waiting for a flight to San
Fran, where Im renting a bike for a few days a riding around california. Easy
Rider? - fuck yeah! (albeit on a Triumph not a Harley, I want to be able to go
round corners)

Managed to survive 5 weeks and only got into 1 argument with Trumpist! Best
thing is that I can buy dope from a shop - how very grown up! Worst thing?
Stupid plugs :) and being told I have a great accent FFS, YOU'VE GOT THE ACCENT
NOT ME ;)

And against probably the best opposition we’ve met thus far. I think they
didn’t allow us to play the way we had first 3 games (or most of them), their
press seemed to unnerve us. Are other teams also going to figure this out: give
us less time, and we don’t play as well? I think this is especially true of
Saiz. Stop Saiz, stop Leeds?

I am also concerned about the injuries we are picking up... the high energy
style has some costs, and this is one of them...

I remember last year we were in a similar position... but we felt we had been
lucky. This time, the luck has been even... and we have played infinitely
better.

I was about 20 when I joined list - around '92.

Now have a 13 yo boy, aspiring goalkeeper, who sadly follows Chelsea like a
lot of plebs out here in Oz (it's the new ManU).

I might have had a chance were we still in the EPL...

Loves his football though which is great!

Re: [LU] Swansea from the armchair

2018-08-21 Thread Ian Murray
To be fair, of the 4 games we have had, 3 of our opponents are expected to be
challenging for the league. We were dealt a tough run of fixtures so it's
particularly pleasing that we sit unbeaten on top of the league.

I think that things will get difficult as the season develops, conditions
worsen and players tire, but for now I am getting on the Bielsa promotion fun
bus.

Re: [LU] Swansea from the armchair

2018-08-21 Thread nat...@sky.com
I agree with most of what RW has said - I think that Douglas was very poor,
Harrison was lacking and Ayling is not a centre back - twice he got us into
trouble when he went rampaging forward and left us (even) more lightweight at
the back
Comparisons with last season are inevitable and at times we did look like the
team that fell away and failed so badly then BUT with one massive difference -
this time we came from behind not once but twice, and got a point in a game
during which for the most part we were second best.
We did show some glimpses and flashes of the way we have been playing but last
night was a long way from the style and pizzazz of the other games
Full marks to MB for his substitutions - when he brought Phillips off I argued
with my lad who said it was stupid to make a sub so early if he wasn't injured,
I said I hoped it was indeed tactical and if it was it showed both an
understanding of the game and a desire to do something about it. Phillips was
having a shocker and he had already been booked so was on a knife edge. I can
recall DoL sitting on his hands when we lost 2 0 at Sunderland - he had £30m of
talent on the bench but sat like a rabbit in headlights and did nothing even
though we all knew we were going to lose if he did not change things. Also I
recall George Graham saying that managers often knew after a few minutes that
they had things wrong but did not want to personnel until at least half time
(preferrably not till 60mins) because to do so early was an admission that they
had picked the wrong team
So full marks to MB to having the nous and ability to know we needed to change
and the bottle  /lack of fear to do so. To then make two more changes to try
and win the game is also to be applauded
One last point on the game - if Saiz (back to his moaning worse) was booked for
dissent how come McBurnie who argued over every decision and got right in the
lino and ref's faces on two occasions did not get sent off ? ALthough to be
fair he was MOM and a real handful
Anyway top of the league despite having what was reported in the press on
fixture day as the 'hardest start' of anyone in the Division ? I would have
been happy with 4 pts at this stage (draw and win v Stoke and Rotherham and two
defeats)
Norwich now takes on an extra importance - was yesterday a reverting to type
for certain players and the team as a whole or is it just one (of many) to be
expected blips in a long hard season. We need Cooper and /or Janson to be fit
sooner rather than later
Dave

2018-08-21 Thread Hedley Shaw
Down here in south east London we have two boys.

Fred ... who was around 15 when he first turned out for the Lards List team ...
think that was in Nottingham or Derby ... he is now in Sydney working for the
ABC and getting up at stupid times to watch the mighty Whites ... we have two
grand daughters there (4 and 2) both of whom can sing MOT all the way through
and end our Facetime chats with the Leeds salute

Charlie ... as a six year old had his head shaved for charity at one of the
Lards games ... Leeds all the way to the extent that hen treated us to the
Legends Suite for the Stoke game where we shared a table with Robbie Fowler.

Charlie and I went to U23 v Milwall game on. Monday afternoon but were refused
entry 'just for family and friends on the list blah blah ... not a
licenced ground .. blah blah'. ... just wish the LUFC website had made that
clear and saved us a journey.
